So... I'm "Billy big boll*cks"! 😂 Thanks for coming in, I'm glad the pint was good enough to keep me from looking like a t*t. My boss says I'm not fired.
When a beer gets too cold you just lose some of the flavour which is why premium lagers ect are always recommended to be served chilled because they generally taste pretty awful when they're not freezing
Hey Daragh, yeah most pints are Extra cold here in the UK really not the same taste as over in Dublin. Love what you’re doing with the channel keep it up
I definitely prefer my Guiness like my real ale - cool but not extra or super cold. As others have said - we love this stuff for the cream, the flavour, the smoothness and the depth. Just like with my real ale. If you ever come to Essex - you got to try a pint in Paglesham's 'Plough & Sail'. Excellent. Also they do a grand local ale called the 'Wallasea Wench'. It is AMAZING
This is great and hits mad close to home mate. I went to uni in bath and actually had my first ever Guinness in flans one night after seeing a Bert Kreischer/Mark Normand comedy show at Komedia next door. Bert got behind the bar that night and caused havoc iirc but think he stuck to bastardising the kronenbourg. I then moved to Bristol for a bit - literally the block of flats next to the coach and horses weirdly. Good pint there altho defo a bit of a closed shop vibe and they used to keep me up all night but good craic. I used to go into O’Donnells after playing gigs at the Mothers Ruin down the road. Far too many late nights there to mention. Best pint of Guinness in briz - or at least the barman said so. Bass player from the band IDLES used to work behind the bar at the ruin but I was usually so twatted by that point in the evening I can’t even remember if they had the black. Need to go back and find out, get the taste of London beer away. Anyway keep doing your thing and thanks for the trip down memory lane. J
Guru yes they have heard of you in England including me! I am English I love Guinness and visiting Eire, I am old enough to remember the pubs in Birmingham where I live not known as Irish pubs but pubs where Irish people drink, I can also remember when your Guinness was poured it took about 5 minutes and they used to scrape the cream off the top with a wooden spoon! I have never been asked whether I want cold or extra cold here someone once said it's the same temp and it comes out of the same barrel, I have relatives in Eire down south nr Roscommon/Castlerea...when I drink Guinness there its find a seat and they bring it to your table. Enjoy your visit, you need to brush up a bit on your Bristol and Bath lingo before you tell the world how they talk there. Thank you for all the info you give on here and I love your marking system it's worth telling folk the cost of what you paid for a pint too...Slainte....
In the uk, even though we get the same kegs as ireland, most pubs treat it like any other beer, and because we sell a lot of cheap beer, which we make really cold to hide the taste, the coolers which we also put guinness through are really cold. So it makes it easier to just sell extra cold instead of having a separate cooler for guinness which we don’t sell an awful lot of
09:09 Respect to the guru for admitting that. Fair play. I do agree that a scoring system is very hard as things change over time and it's very hard to be ultra consistent.
I remember when extra cold came about instead of normal. Most pubs started to have it side-by-side. I tend to see more of the extra rather than normal nowerdays. Not everywhere but most places.
Great nostalgia for me in this video.I went to uni in Bath back in 2009 and Flan O'Briens served a decent Guiness then. Glad to see it's still up to par (for the UK anyway ;)). On the extra cold thing, some pubs only do the extra cold, some do both and some don't have extra cold. Basically we just take what we can get over here. Not being a hardy Irishman I don't think I could honestly tell the difference between the two!
Extra cold is the most common in England, the pubs that have the original tap are usually the best but it isn't very common. You can taste more witht he higher temp for sure
So the pub I work at in Glasgow (before lockdown) had the option of Extra Cold and regular temperature. Had a refurb and Diageo came in and installed a second Extra Cold taking the regular away. Apparently they're trying to push Extra Cold for some unknown reason (according to my manager). Anyway if you ever find yourself in Gleasga come to Heraghty's Bar on Pollokshaws Road, good craic and great Guinness/whisky.
Doesn't matter if you are in Bath or Bavaria...if you have the right gas mix , clean beer lines and correct cooler temp the pint should be as good as anywhere in Ireland. Problem is pubs abroad are not vigilant on that stuff so invariably it's not up to standard
keep saying Coach and Horses that way mate it's class! extra cold is decent in the summer...it's just a little better to drink over 15 minutes than the proper original. right then, best pint in Newcastle next please!!
Brill. I was hoping you’d do one here. Nice one. On the whole, I think the Guinness is shite here compared to home. Plus, no chance of an old tulip glass here 😢
The more commercial pubs you see a lot of Extra Cold, but a lot of the local pubs is mainly standard from my experience. Not sure what the obsession is with the Extra Cold in the UK, the standard one is cold enough.
It's because it's not drunk as much in mainland UK. Guinness is bit like real cask ale, it only tastes good fresh, so it needs to be drunk quickly after the cask has been opened. So Diageo who own Guinness don't want their brand tarnished so they serve it cold to be on the safe side as gone off Guinness or ale tastes horrible but if it's cold you don't taste the difference
Do be on road around Ireland & do have the od pint of guiness 0 which i do enjoy..I have found there is a huge difference between pubs in terms of taste and good head/stick to bottom of pint...Best ive tasted by far is in Carpenters bar in Carlow...thick head and creamy all the way down...i didnt think there would be differences in the guiness 0 but i was proved wrong...Really enjoy your videos ..best regards..Paddy..ive been given the glass from cooler in some places and it kills the taste..glass from the shelve and poured correctly is the best for taste and good head/stick..
@15:30 To be honest you get extra cold quite alot here, you won't get a choice usually because alot of pubs don't do enough business on the Guinness to justify two taps. Most people drink craft ipa or crap macro lagers
The Coach and Horses is owned by the family of my cousin’s partner and is named that way because their main trade is looking after racehorses back in Ireland
Hey Guru! Most places in the uk you expect the extra cold, but if the regular is on offer ill always take it! Cardiff is a good place for a Guinness, was there at the weekend, the old market tavern was the best guiness I found , Slaintè mhath 🍀🏴🇮🇪
