    I’m on the same boat as Brotha Stogie, I started with cigars (which I still love) and now started smoking pipes (which I love more). Cigars relax me but pipes relax and help me think more.

    I'm a recent pipe smoker, I am definitely still learning. I noticed you "mouth breathing" the pipe. I am learning the "Breathe Method," breath in through the nose...mainly with a few exhales through the mouth. It keeps the pipe from getting too hot and scorching the tobacco...and give a better taste/experience.. Like I said...I am a NOOB! and still "suck" at pipe smoking...but I am trying to learn.

    Long time pipe smoker and occasional cigar smoker here. I prefer pipes because cigars are sometimes too strong depending on the stick not to mention they are much more expensive and with pipes you can control the rate you smoke better.

    I got two pipes the other week haven’t broken them in yet, this weekend is when I do. The statements on cast iron and enjoying the process sold it for me. Switching from occasional cigars to pipe, should I break in before making a judgement on it? I don’t smoke much (once or twice a year) so I like to make the most of it.

    • @brothastogie5383
      @brothastogie5383 2 роки тому

      And you want those once or twice moments to be memorable, but yes, make sure you break in the pipe and get the process down to ensure you are enjoying and not fumbling around on how to keep it lit

    • @e-hellephant6252
      @e-hellephant6252 2 роки тому

      Assumably it'll take a few experiences before you really start getting close to a full enjoyment of it.
      I feel it's a bit of an art, maintaining the cleanliness of the bowl properly to allow full taste, preparing whatever tobacco (which hunting for that is a separate journey that's consistently able to be enjoyed in the same way as with cigars, but possibly to a further degree depending on your personality), and lighting that prepared tobacco appropriately.
      It took me years to realize how lightly you're to a hit a clean bowl 🤣 every so many months I'd realize how hard I was pulling.
      Also.
      If mixing, ingredients, I heavily suggest ghosting/tricking the smoke back in before inhalation.
      It does truly help keep back the punch of the tobacco, while still maintaining it to a satisfactory extent!

  • @mhailey123
    @mhailey123 3 роки тому +3

    Well done Gentlemen. Look up the "Breath" method for smoking your pipe. Keep the bowl much cooler, allows you to taste all the subtle notes that get lost when the smoke is just too hot, and virtually eliminates tongue bite. You won't get those great plumes of smoke that you get from a cigar, but that's not what you really want.

    You guys have to try some non-aromatic blends. I recommend a strong English blend (these contain Latakia leaf, which is smoked in barns for nearly 6 months) like Nightcap, or a Virginia/Perique blend like Elizabethan Mixture.
    I'm mostly a pipe smoker and know little to nothing about cigars, but the non-aromatics typically have much better flavor and burning characteristics.

    • @e-hellephant6252

      I personally disagree with this, if you can find a good maker such as macbaren, you can find well mediated aromatics that burn smooth, clean, and have unrivaled flavors. It's not like candy but extremely hard to miss.
      Latakia and perique are like the yin and yang of a forest fire.
      Latakia being thesuper light and smokey/airy ying.
      Perique being the nightmarishly dark and heavy full tree on fire yang.

    I enjoy both but I still am firmly in the cigar is my favorite camp. Interestingly enough I've found when I smoke a pipe I'm not generally satisfied with what's considered an aromatic blend. I tried some that a cigar shop in Ruidoso NM blended with Maduro cigar tobacco, it is more flavorful to me than others I've tried. For me most of the time it comes down to how much time do I have to smoke. If I choose I can fill the bowl up as much or as little as I want.

    That's a BURLEY blend, not BARLEY blend. Barley is used in the manufacture of alcoholic drinks, which appears to be what Brotha Stogie's tongue was centered on (this is truth, but in jest). Please don't spit/slobber in your pipe, there are multiple reasons. The only moisture in your pipe should be minimal and from the tobacco. Check out the Breathe Method to get the most from your smoke with the least heat and moisture.

      Missouri Meerschaum makes a couple of corn cob churchwarden pipes based on Lord of the Rings. Might not exactly take the place of your Gandalf pipe, but might be worth a look.
      Edit: The pipes are named “cobbit corn cob” for anyone looking to narrow/focus their search a bit. Nice little churchwarden, IMO.
