    For those who may be wondering, boot camp is not that calm. I can promise you that. 2:25, that is AT1 Ovalle. She was my RDC, Div 320. She was calm when explaining something, but the moment you messed up what she clearly explained to you or if you misswrote one thing in her weapons log, then may God have mercy on your soul.

    Understand this video only shows the "downtime" as you are getting close to graduation. The first half of boot camp is constant yelling. You got to earn the respect of your rdcs

    I went through Great Lakes in June-August 1978. We weren't yelled at, a lot, for the first couple of days,but my Company Commanders didn't pur up with any nonsense. A couple of guys tried to go over the hill, the first night.It was A Good experience for me; it made a man out of me.Chief Regan and Petty Officer Coleman, where ever, you are, thanks. You made a difference , and thank you very much.

    The Navy like the Air Force have come a long ways since the days I went into boot camp in 1968. We lived in wood WWII barracks and had bunk beds to sleep on. We had a foot locker at the end of our bed and didn't walk in the middle of the floor for fear of having to clean and buff the floor again. It was the same when we went to tech school also and when I went back to Lackland AFB for recruiting school they had the new barracks which is old now and probably destroyed now and even newer complexes built there.

    • @airdefender1
      @airdefender1 10 місяців тому

      Awesome! My dad went through there in 1961, pre dating the campaign cover. He told me about the same barracks you stayed in and how they would have inspections and you’d see a foot locker sail right out the window.

  • @zul2552

    I’m in this video and believe me when I say bootcamp is not like this. We were yelled before the video because we needed to behave and not fck things up. We were yelled after the video because we were trash and an embarrassment for our RDCs. I was constantly being dropped to do push-ups or IT for the stupidest reasons. This is not what bootcamp was 5yrs ago when they filmed this.

    Some military terms not usually explained well ; 1. "gudtuhgo" = "Good to go" formally a tern used when checking troops before embarkation.2. "widguhdidguh" = Another way to say "With you, did you ?." A term used when a Training Instructor needs to find out if you followed instructions. So he would say, "Recruit, you didn't bring that swab and bucket widguhdidguh ?3. "dah-gone", when an instructor doesn't cuss, he says "da-gone" instead of god damn. 4. "gitchur" as in "gitchur ass over here."

    How did some of the recruits earn E-4 while at boot camp? I thought E-3 was the highest rank you can enlist as.

    • @jeremyw.5729
      @jeremyw.5729 8 років тому

      Recruits who hold leadership positions within the division are given temporary, e-4 and above, metal collar devices to pin to their blue, digital camo Navy Working Uniforms to represent their position within the division. Outside of boot camp, metal collar devices are never worn with NWU's, and it is not possible for a recruit to be above e-3 while in boot camp. Recruits can be meritoriously advanced to e-3 while there, but must spend 6 months as an e-3 to be eligible for e-4

      Some of them are recruits. Recruits would be given special assignments at RTC, which granted them authorization to wear the Petty Officer's Crow. Not sure how long they've done that at RTC, but I know they've been doing it well before I enlisted back in 2007.

    Honestly no offenses, but the integrated divisions were a joke they were absolutely softer and more of a joke. I was in an all male division in ship 14. It was marine or coast guard level boot, but it was more than I expected. Two friends of mine who were asmo'd and sent to integrated divisions confirmed that they were indeed different and much less aggressive. Hell one of em even mentioned stress cards, which were not anywhere present in my ship.

    • @trey87

      They try making it more like a ship, which is why galleys are in the "ship", PT is also held indoors at the gym, things of that nature. The coffin locker makes sense, so they can learn to stow their uniforms properly.

    co-ed boot camp? The Navy sure has changed from
    when I was in. Women always had it easier in the Navy.
    They got all the shore duty stations because women
    weren't allowed on ships. While guys would have to give
    an extra 2 years to get the same shore duty going from
    ship to shore.

    Sneakers? They run recruits in sneakers these days? And what are the backpacks for?

    • @ninja-cr1kl
      @ninja-cr1kl 6 років тому

      Clell Harmon From what I have ever learned from videos, the sneakers are for exercise, while the recruits do sometimes train in their boots. The backpacks, I'm not very sure. Then the recruits don't just have firearms right by their bunk. They do still practice shooting techniques and safety precautions while holding a firearm. Thank you for your service.
