Stay in the Woods,
Dan
Someone in my area has done this I’ve come across two in the last couple weeks 2nd one I found had a dead fish so clearly set it up & just left it way too long! Practice is fine but if your just going to go home & leave it please take your hooks out the water
agree with that 100%
i see things like that regulary in my area, practice is good but like you mention, its not the intention to leave it and forget about it.
I dont know if you realize, but no one cares anymore.
@@tommyjay6079 yeah your probably right but we can try 👍
and it's disrespectful for the animal too if the collector doesn't consume the meat and left it to rot. Huge waste of life.....
Great explanation. I might use this on my kids and bait it with candy.
R u a comedian cuz ur great
Highly underrated comment 👏
I have just tried this. Some points to be made:
If you change from fishing line to metal wire. And you attach this metal wire on the bottom side of the L7 figure. Then you will have a small game trap.
The metal wire is very important to make. This because you need to create ‘wire memory’ in the metal wire.
To create wire memory you just roll it up into an O with many circles. If you slowly pull them apart and then let go, it will roll up in the O shape again.
Pull it aparts and bend a little to make a stop on the roll back.
But make sure that stop is very sensitive.
If a bunny walks threw it would just need to touch the wire and it tightens up.
The bunny will try to run which will make the figure L7 trap set off.
Actual video 2 minutes 40 seconds in. Check!
Thank you for saving me 2min 30sec!
Thank you!
When i saw this i got excited! Cause i tried this when i learned it from Corporal corner
This is great! I've been looking for a good way to passively fish in my local Florida waters while I camp.
I'm heading out solo to a backcountry lake in about one week. Gonna have to try this out 👍
Missed it. Thanks.
I can not wait to try this at Branham Lakes in Sheridan Montana. I have never survival fished, always carry a pack rod and gear, This could be some fun stuff to try!!!
iv made them for squirrels and rabbits, but never fish. always wanted to try. guess now i will have to.
Lazy fishing! You could probably put a bell on the spring stick to wake you up when you catch a fish.
Hi from Syracuse NY and thank you for sharing your thoughts and adventures brother and everyone else and a late happy father's day
I always love when I get notified of a new upload. This is the easiest method I can think of that really works. I'm glad you pointed out the ability of orientation of trigger, per your specific situation. On windy days you want a slightly less sensitive trigger, on calm days and small fish you want very sensitive trigger.
I've learned so much from you, please keep it coming.
Imagine walking through the woods and randomly getting smacked in the face with a trout. Haha
Loved the video as usual . I'm going to try this as soon as I can !! Thank you for another great tool for my toolbox !!! Take care and stay safe my friend!!
I like the easy simple explanations from your videos. Thank you. Most survivalist get all technical and mumbo jumbo talking explanations that you need a encyclopedia to decipher. When SHTF, or just out camping, you need simple things to remember in your tool box. Simple survival should not be hard to do till you figure it out or are found.
The ‘fishing line’ needs to be placed under the L7 locking part.
This is how to need the least amount of pull in order to set off the trap.
This is a great and easy trap. I never understand why folks on ALONE don't use it.
Probably against the rules. Like survival has rules...
@@oldtimeskillsoutdoors20yeah, here in BC, barbless hooks only. Hell even from a boat with the proper equipment you sometimes still lose'em
Pack in 2 inexpensive yo yo fishing reels. Does the same with 1/3 time involved
In my "Mind" I see the "7" facing the water and Vertically driven into the ground. I see the "L" hanging Vertically while engaged. MY Question/Suggestion is tying the "Fishing Line" down at the bottom of the "L" notch to put the tension at the trigger to make it easier for the trigger to work.
I'd add, if you use this setup, be careful of where the hook is and of your eyes and face. It'd be all too easy to accidentally trip it during setup and catch a fish hook in the face/eye/etc, which would exacerbate your survival situation. 👍
This is essentially a jaw jacker that you would use with a jigging rod during ice fishing.
Good stuff man ... thanks for sharing :-)
Time to check fishing and trapping regs. May be trying this one
Does it work on blonde's? Or do you suggest a trout line?
Nice trap. Thank you for showing it to us, Dan. Stay safe and stay cool.
Y don't u show catching fish?
Fajny filmik😎 pozdrowienia z POLAND
Good content, but please lower the intro volume. Thanks
I can see where that could probably work with an actual fishing pole as long as you set the drag properly.
WHERES THE FISH?!?!? LIVE DEMO????
🐠 🐟 🎣
No fish, no work. Just theory. BOOOOO!!!!
This works extremely well 👍
Used it many times since I was a kid
Flying fish flinger
would like to see a vid with this in action.
watch the first 10 seconds
You posted this video 2 years ago, I would take it down and let survival of the fittest happen. I fish for recreation and am highly disappointed that people aren't watching a basic survival video, thank you for the video
KISS principle. Keep It Simple Sweetheart!

Yeah I tend to agree that there are no hard and fast rules in bushcraft. Mucking about with the trigger to get the right reaction is all part of the joy. Then next time with different fish you need a different reaction. Enjoying the jouney is the important part. Thanks Dan.
You really don't need the spring pole, it's kind of a waste of time. We used to do this as kids for catfish and called it bank lining. You can also limb line from bushes and trees overhanging the water if you have a boat.
Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
I think this is great.
Any tips for setting this in or around moving water? I’d be afraid a current would trip the trap.
I watched your other video similar to this. It's excellent information. Thank you.
at the start of the video it appeared that you had caught something, but that was misleading because evidently you didnt catch anything. what you call a "trap" im assuming is a hand cut pole that has been around for ages. show us something you "trapped". waste of time here.😂
Would it be OK to tie 3 or 4 fishing lines with hooks in order to maximize your chances of getting a fish?
A spring pole L 7 is hard to beat, thx for the vid.
Just came across your video.
Love it.
But , maybe , show us it works. ❤
Great tip
Might work better than simply relying on a circle hook
Thank you for your video. I'm going to try this the next time I go fishing. To see if I can do it.
What a relevant video this time of year :)
Great info. Thank you my friend
I always used a 12 gauge 😁
A half stick of dynamite works well too, a little loud tho. Use the same trick with one of those friction fuses we used to have in the military.
I've seen these work great. Thank you
Exactly what I was looking for , thanks 👍
Really enjoyed the video, thankyou
Another Angler's tip, the type of line matters, stretch or no stretch. If using mono, there is stretch and a delay, so slightly harder hook sets are required. With braided line or fluorocarbon, there is virtually no stretch, so hook sets have to be lighter, or it will pull it out of their mouth. With no stretch lines, hook sets are just a little tug. Length of pole matters too. Shorter=harder hook sets, longer doesn't require hard hook sets. Even the difference between a 5'6" and 7" is different and a 7' rod/pole/stick is going set with less of a tug than the 5'.
Thanks Dan I may have to get a bigger tool box
I watched you from Brazil
Good info as always
I Imagine this would work best with a J hook?
So simple! Awesome
‘Set the hook’ not a fisherman are you?
Thank you VERY much for all this info (stuff for the toolbox), going through a load of your vids and learning a TONNE, I'll prob cut and paste this comment as I'm going through so many of them 😁, thnx again 😉
Nice new intro and ty for this.
Great tips and video! Thanks
Great one!
Time to go fishing.
Great tips 🐟 Mahalo 😎🤙
3:12 bruh...come on...what? as a survivalist, and youtuber, you should always recommend NOT TOUCHING saplings...you have any idea how long those take to grow? stop suggesting to kill living plants for your little human needs please. you have a lot of subs mate... you should use that power for good and not suggest human kill the planet more for stupid human camping desires........... i lost a lot of respect for you just from that one sentence mate....
its a bushcraft video moron, of course theyre going to craft stuff out of bush
What's it like up there?
Mighty fine school’n.
Great for rabbit, not so good for fish...
Great opener. Sounds and looks good
I am gonna try this today thanks

MKBHD helped me pick my phone! Thanks for *your* videos!
but..... what did you catch?
fast forward to 2:40
To much bs in this video.
So much bs b4 u get to the point!
In Wisconsin.. It's illegal to put out set lines .. Just check with each state as for the laws..
Cool, I've still got chips in my bowl. Think I'll watch another one.
I like it. Thumb up.
I enjoyed your Jaws reference: we don't need a bigger stick, we're not catching sharks.
At the very least I’m going to make and put an L7 in my backpack. Great video!
I’ve been obsessed
💋💋
excellent video
🥇
Awsome
Thanks!
Cheers
With a bit more work, a fish weir might catch several fish rather than just one at a time.
Looks good Dan. I made some of theses up, now I have to give them a go. Take care.
Thank you so much East Coast boy! Love it and I can’t wait to try it.
I personally prefer lots of tension on the pole to flick the fish back into the woods as that is my bait for catching bears 🐻🎣
Can't wait to try this out. Excellent information.
I connect my fishing line to the notch. Seems to pull loose easier.
Is that the same pond of water that James Townsend's son are on
Good information Dan
Great video. Variation of what they call a "trot line" around here, always a fun surprise when you pull up a big snapping turtle too lol.
You may have seen this or think its dumb, but I remember seeing a similar video from another country, in Asia I believe, but they made "hooks" out of bamboo to go with the snare. Basically they folded a thin piece in half had it tied in the bend. Then used a round piece to hold it closed. When the fish pulled on it, the sleeve came of and it flared open and caught the fish because it was stuck in its mouth. Have you ever had any experience with something like that? Just curious.
That's classic ingenuity.
Intro too loud!! Love your videos!
Love it.was hoping to c it catch a fish. 👍
