Someone in my area has done this I’ve come across two in the last couple weeks 2nd one I found had a dead fish so clearly set it up & just left it way too long! Practice is fine but if your just going to go home & leave it please take your hooks out the water

I have just tried this. Some points to be made:
If you change from fishing line to metal wire. And you attach this metal wire on the bottom side of the L7 figure. Then you will have a small game trap.
The metal wire is very important to make. This because you need to create ‘wire memory’ in the metal wire.
To create wire memory you just roll it up into an O with many circles. If you slowly pull them apart and then let go, it will roll up in the O shape again.
Pull it aparts and bend a little to make a stop on the roll back.
But make sure that stop is very sensitive.
If a bunny walks threw it would just need to touch the wire and it tightens up.
The bunny will try to run which will make the figure L7 trap set off.

I always love when I get notified of a new upload. This is the easiest method I can think of that really works. I'm glad you pointed out the ability of orientation of trigger, per your specific situation. On windy days you want a slightly less sensitive trigger, on calm days and small fish you want very sensitive trigger.
I've learned so much from you, please keep it coming.

I like the easy simple explanations from your videos. Thank you. Most survivalist get all technical and mumbo jumbo talking explanations that you need a encyclopedia to decipher. When SHTF, or just out camping, you need simple things to remember in your tool box. Simple survival should not be hard to do till you figure it out or are found.

The ‘fishing line’ needs to be placed under the L7 locking part.
This is how to need the least amount of pull in order to set off the trap.

In my "Mind" I see the "7" facing the water and Vertically driven into the ground. I see the "L" hanging Vertically while engaged. MY Question/Suggestion is tying the "Fishing Line" down at the bottom of the "L" notch to put the tension at the trigger to make it easier for the trigger to work.

I'd add, if you use this setup, be careful of where the hook is and of your eyes and face. It'd be all too easy to accidentally trip it during setup and catch a fish hook in the face/eye/etc, which would exacerbate your survival situation. 👍

Yeah I tend to agree that there are no hard and fast rules in bushcraft. Mucking about with the trigger to get the right reaction is all part of the joy. Then next time with different fish you need a different reaction. Enjoying the jouney is the important part. Thanks Dan.

You really don't need the spring pole, it's kind of a waste of time. We used to do this as kids for catfish and called it bank lining. You can also limb line from bushes and trees overhanging the water if you have a boat.

Another Angler's tip, the type of line matters, stretch or no stretch. If using mono, there is stretch and a delay, so slightly harder hook sets are required. With braided line or fluorocarbon, there is virtually no stretch, so hook sets have to be lighter, or it will pull it out of their mouth. With no stretch lines, hook sets are just a little tug. Length of pole matters too. Shorter=harder hook sets, longer doesn't require hard hook sets. Even the difference between a 5'6" and 7" is different and a 7' rod/pole/stick is going set with less of a tug than the 5'.

Great video. Variation of what they call a "trot line" around here, always a fun surprise when you pull up a big snapping turtle too lol.
You may have seen this or think its dumb, but I remember seeing a similar video from another country, in Asia I believe, but they made "hooks" out of bamboo to go with the snare. Basically they folded a thin piece in half had it tied in the bend. Then used a round piece to hold it closed. When the fish pulled on it, the sleeve came of and it flared open and caught the fish because it was stuck in its mouth. Have you ever had any experience with something like that? Just curious.
