Can we just take a moment to appreciate how special Elvis made 3 guys on guitar, 1 guy drumming on the back of a guitar case, and a tambourine, sound? He was one of a kind!
Love this and I can tell you do, too. A jam session vibe, which was a favorite of Elvis'. Loved your comments about the rawness and the smooth qualities of his voice together. A masterpiece. ❤❤❤
Hey man I appreciate the beautiful Picture of my man behind you. this to me was his greatest era of music, from 68 to 72. I loved him since 56, he got better all the time. The 19 year old Elvis was cute sexy and sweet sounding, this Elvis is edgy and gorgeous, his voice is powerful and soars. thanks for keeping his memory alive. be Blessed
Whether singing with a full orchestra or sitting on a chair with a guitar in black leather, Elvis was and always will be The Greatest Of All Time. Long Live The King and his Music.❤❤❤❤❤
AUTHENTIC Elvis - if you had any doubt that he could actually play guitar - this ends all doubts. He is a supremely phenomenal rhythm and lead guitarist with stunning tone. This song was him thanking God, he found his gurl … but she’s playing hard to get - she lied - and he’s asking God to make it all work out. One of the greatest rock jams of all time for a 50s tune. Stunning vocal too that inspired the next Gen of rock.
Elvis looking just about his most gorgeous at age 33. Crazy to think he would pass away only 9 short years later, almost unrecognizable from how he looked in 1968. His vocals were probably at their best then, too. From 1956 Elvis started having backing vocalists on his recordings. The Jordanaires, a gospel quartet, joined at his request. In 1956, the Jordanaires were Gordon Stoker, Hoyt Hawkins, Neal Matthews, and Hugh Jarrett. Jarrett left in 1958 and was replaced by Ray Walker. They were a part of almost everything Elvis did in the studio (including movie soundtracks), on tour, and on television. This lasted into early ’68. Elvis and the Jordanaires parted amicably. His "Band" when he started only consisted of him on acoustic guitar (even before he could really play it), Scotty Moore on lead guitar and Bill Black on stand-up bass. Later they were joined by drummer D.J. Fontana. The backbone of his live performances as of 1969, whether touring the country or for his residency in Las Vegas, was his TCB band, consisting of: Ronnie Tutt (drums), Jerry Scheff (bass guitar), James Burton (lead guitar), John Wilkinson (rhythm guitar) and Glen D. Hardin (piano). Backing vocalists were, at first, The Imperials (male backing vocalists) and later J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet and the female backing vocalists The Sweet Inspirations and soprano Kathy Westmoreland. You can read more about the changing line-up of the band here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCB_Band Finally, he was also accompanied by the Joe Guercio orchestra on stage. So, in concerts you had the orchestra, the TCB band, the male and female backing vocalists and Elvis.
Please don't forget that ELVIS sung a lot of Christian or Gospel music. There is a "Live in Concert" performance in 1972 of "How Great Thou Art". I am a Gospel singer and I've used my "ELVIS Songbook" many times; Gospel songs arranged by ELVIS.
I believe, that all the Grammys that Elvis won, were awarded for gospel music! Some smarter person here can check it, but I believe that’s the case. He spent his youth singing in majority black Baptist Church choir. So he took it seriously.
A little story from Steve Binder -- the producer of the '68 special -- related about Elvis. Elvis was severely nervous and he told Binder that he didn't know any of the songs, he forgot all the words, & wasn't going out there, & Binder said i don't care if you walk out, just say hello & then walk off, but you ARE going out. And out he came. Elvis unleashed, doing what he did best -- 2 great stand-up performances center stage from this '68 special: (1) "Blue Suede Shoes" (longer version w-great finish) ua-cam.com/video/Ak5KEbi8Nac/v-deo.html (2:50 min.) (2) "Jailhouse Rock" ua-cam.com/video/87N6Qa0D7KY/v-deo.html (1:50 min.). Since both of these are very short, why not do one then follow it w-the other for a total of just 4 min. & you'll see 2 great performances in one shot. As per the info available, "Tryin' To Get To You" is a heartfelt anthem about the lengths one is willing to go for love. The lyrics depict a journey of physical and emotional endurance, as the protagonist travels through mountains, valleys, and day and night to be with their beloved.
In 1950’s Elvis worked primarily with 3 musicians. Scotty Moore, who was on the “stage” in this clip, on lead guitar, Bill Black on stand up slap bass and DJ Fontana on drums. From late 1957 - 1968, minus 2 years in the army, Elvis focused on movie, only doing a couple of live benefit shows. In 1969 Elvis returned to live performances with 2 x 4 week residency per year in Vegas, later adding Lake Tahoe residency and 3-4 per USA only concert tours per year until his death in 1977. Elvis handpicked every musician for his return to live performances. For the most part these musicians stayed with him from 1969 to 1977, with some minor changes. Today they are often referred to as the TCB (Taking Care If Business) band but during Elvis’ life time they did not have an official title other than the guys who played with Elvis. Studio line up often depended on where he was recording but some notables are the famous Memphis Boys when he recorded at American Sound studios in Memphis in 1969 and the Nashville Edition when he recorded in Nashville in early 1970s. Elvis started hating recording and his record label found it very difficult to secure any studio work from Elvis from late 1974. In a compromise, RCA set up an OB truck outside Elvis’ home Graceland for two recording sessions in 1976, Elvis’ last recording sessions during which he used his live band as his musicians. Elvis also used an orchestra during his 1969-1977 live performances, the Joe Guercio Orchestra in Vegas and part of the orchestra on the road.
Elvis is definitely a solo act. However, he tended to work with the same musicians regularly. His initial guitar player Scotty Moore, played with him his first 10 years, minus 2 for the Army leave. This performance you saw was the last time they played together in 1968. From 69 until 77 he played and sang with the same people, except for a few changes here and there. Elvis definitely preferred familiarity in his bandmates.
Elvis had his own band. In the beginning it was him and two guitars and a base. He picked all his own musicians. In Las Vegas in He expanding to almost a full orchestra. It was called TCB (Taking Care of Business) This became his logo. One Christmas he gifted gold chains with the TCB logo to his musicians. It was also painted on his private plain which he named after his daughter Lisa Marie. If you like gospel check out the duet by Lisa Marie and her daddy “Nothing like being alone”.
Jane H commenting … I love all of Elvis’ music, but for me, as a believer, my most favourites are his Gospel songs & his hymns. Elvis was deeply spiritual & his most treasured possession was his bible & it went everywhere with him, & was always placed beside his bed wherever he was. Yes, we all know he had some personal issues, which he spiritually struggled with, but God sees the heart, & Elvis’ heart was for God. In his last filmed concert, just 8 weeks before his death, Elvis sang How Great Thou Art, & it was an Amazing performance by a man who was very sick. It was like he was filled with the Holy Spirit, & singing it directly to God. It would be great if you could do a Reaction to How Great Thou Art in that June 1977 concert. ‘Take My Hand, Precious Lord’ is another beautiful spiritual song which he sang when he was younger, & I think it’s only available on audio, but so well worth doing a Reaction to. These songs were Elvis’ favourite songs to sing & he was in his absolute element when singing them. I have read that he was planning to do a full Gospel concert when he passed.
Glad you noticed the religious ending to this song: "Lord above he knows I love you, it was he who brought me through, when my way was dark at night, he would shine his brightest light when I was trying to get to you!"
I was looking for you today and was so happy that I found another reaction. Good choice in song . I always took it about God, but everybody has their own interpretation of it. In answer to your question about backup bands. When he first started it was a bass a guitar and then added drummer later on. His backup vocals were with the Jordanaires. They backed him up in his movies as well at least the early movies. Then he went to the army in Germany and he came back. He still used the Jordanaires for the Frank Sinatra special that he does a duet with Frank Sinatra. That is also available on UA-cam during the movie years nothing much happened. He did a lot of recording sessions with different backups. Then when he went into Vegas, he had an orchestra had a new Band that he handpicked, he had the male vocals from different gospel groups. He had the phenomenal JD, Sumner and the stamps quartet, and he had the Sweet inspirations, which was the three black back of vocalist, which one of them was Whitney Houston’s motherCissy He also had Cathy Westmoreland who did the very high notes. I’m voice messaging this because I had eye surgery so I cannot see if my spelling etc. is not correct so bear with me. There’s an awful lot to the Elvis story and so many people involved. They’re too numerous to name but I tried to give you a quick education, please check out Elvis in the black community. I know I mentioned it before but I’ve watched that a few times there’s part one and part two but I think although it’s short it educates the viewer. I think you would love him doing bossa nova baby from the movie fun in Acapulco. However, I see on UA-cam that there is a bossa nova baby remix and personally I like that one better only because it’s a little longer and his dancing is beyond phenomenal. So Pluto I’m beginning to like you a hell of a lot. God bless you and have a good day again excuse the typos or misspellings but due to the eye surgery I cannot type it or text it. God bless. Oh, before I forget Bridge over troubled waters Las Vegas 1973 I believe take care of my friend
Awww thank you sooo much for the background on Elvis, I hope you were able to check out my video on Elvis and the black community. I’ll check out the las Vegas show soon and share. I pray your eye is now better 🙏🏾, and thank you so much for the kind words and joining my journey 🚀💛

Elvis song from 1955. He was better at playing piano, but could play bass, guitar and piano. He started as a trio with a guitarist & bassist, & later added a drummer. After his “comeback” he had his own big touring band.

Your right about the Grammy’s ❤
He would have won more grammys but he was so controversial in the fifties.

Amazing!!!!
Elvis actually recorded this in 1955 at Sun studios. It's fire and only on vinyl. His voice was alot higher then
The King. 🇺🇸

Leather pants, Leather jacket…..no jumpsuit his time.
When he got wild on stage in Vegas with karate kicks, he kept splitting his pants, so the jumpsuit solved the problem.

Have you done any Bee Gees or Meat Loaf?
