- Inside the Mojave Desert Seed Bank, millions of seeds are kept safe for decades to come - a living repository of the flora of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. By seed banking, the Mojave Desert Land Trust is able to preserve the genetic diversity of the California desert's native plants and ensure the survival of the desert ecosystem by making seed available for research, restoration, and species reintroduction.
California is one of only 36 global biodiversity hotspots in the world, but it suffers increasingly from climate disruption and habitat loss. The desert makes up a quarter of the state and is home to more than 2,400 native plants. Many of these species are found nowhere else on Earth.
The Mojave Desert Seed Bank is one of the solutions to our planet's changing climate. Together, we can protect the genetic diversity of our flora for many years to come. Learn more at MDLT.org/seed-bank
