Mojave Desert Wildlife at Quail Mountain
The Mojave Desert Land Trust’s Quail Mountain preserve protects nearly 1,000 acres of pristine habitat that functions as a wildlife corridor between desert conservation lands. This land supports a wealth of biodiversity; home to coyotes and bobcats as well as bighorn sheep, the Endangered Mojave desert tortoise, and rodents, birds, and reptiles a-plenty.
In the face of increasing pressure from climate change and urban sprawl, wildlife corridors are crucial for the survival of native species - connecting populations of plants and pollinators while providing animals space to migrate, find shelter, mate, and forage. This preserve may one day be conveyed to the National Park Service to be protected in perpetuity. Until then, MDLT will continue its stewardship to maintain a healthy ecosystem where all species can thrive.

Coyote sightings on a Mojave Desert Land Trust preserve in the Morongo Basin
Переглядів 140День тому
These three amigos are frequently seen hamming it up on one of MDLT’s Morongo Basin trail cams, to the great joy of MDLT staff. January through March is coyote mating season in California, so you may see more ‘yote activity than usual in the coming months. Though coyotes typically form a (lifelong!) relationship with one partner, several males sometimes band together on the prowl to find and co...

A trail cam on one of MDLT's local preserves spotted the Mojave Desert's favorite cryptid. The truth is out there: Yucca Man needs wildlife corridors too. 🛸

😂You got me there for a moment! Happy April Fools to you, too!
Never knew this was a thing. I'll have to visit one day. Very nice of you guys.
I spent spring of 2002 with a 25 person crew as part of the annual Mohave Desert Tortoise Endangered Species census on federal lands. After a week of orientation & training we caravanned in a dozen 4wd vehicles working in pairs; every day we awoke abt 4:30am and prepped for a 7+ mile line transect walking survey (Each grid was a square, 4x 500m.x 3 passes of each 100m ) Every live Tortoise was carefully photographed, measured, weighed and data recorded in a Palm Pilot. Tortoise carcasses were measured, photographed and examined to determine cause of death. We traveled mostly on dirt powerline roads and made runs about once a week to gas up and resupply; water, oil, food, propane, laundry etc. We usually finished early afternoon and often had some time to explore on our own. Had the opportunity of a lifetime to see most of the Mohave: Indian sites, old military training areas, Mohave Nat. Preserve, Joshua Tree Nat. Monument, etc.
Bro was like I'm Getting in
My goodness that looks blissful with the rain and everything. I bet it smells like heaven!
Majestic and beautiful
❤
Thank you!
A dangerous animal with sharp teeth and that tail...!
Very interesting 🤔
I’m confused. This video was posted on the Mohave Desert Land Trust channel. But all the speakers in the video are from some outfit called “SWCA”, which is not identified anywhere. The organization is mentioned only once, in the video Description, but only as SWCA. And only as SWCA in the video itself. This seems like a great opportunity for MDLT and its partners to positively impact the austere environment of the Mohave. I hope it has been going well since this video was posted. I’m a big fan of beavers, same as at least one other commenter. A good problem to have.
What are the facts?!
In the video description :) but next time we'll make it more easily digestible with text in the video! Thanks!
😊
Watching from my city Governador Lindenberg - Brazil. Nice 👍🇧🇷
