Thank you . Other types of reviews are of course more popular but I like to make them in a style that I would want to watch and don’t worry much about views , likes and subscribers which , for those trying to make a living out of this , is important . Appreciate your kind comment . Glad you like them 👍
Another classy, concise and in-depth motorcycle review from Mam Journals; thanks for sharing, Michael. The 660 Daytona sounds like a bit of a terrier…..great for the midweek blast on, hopefully, uncluttered backroads. And it looks good too; better in the red option, I think. Would I buy one. No. More or less for the same reason as your good self; not enough comfort for my ageing bones! I tried a CB650R which I thought was good with great looks and the usual Honda finish…..but along came Suzuki’s GSX-8R….more comfortable, a more relaxed ride (not constantly wringing its neck) and good looking with a nice soundtrack. Of the middleweight bunch you mentioned i’d prefer the Aprilia RS660, but because I’m a tad frugal-minded, the 8R does it for me.
Thanks for the review. Pretty sure I'm about to trade in my 2018 CBR650F for one of these. When I test rode it, it felt very well put together and although the riding position is probably a tad more aggressive than the 650F (which is itself slightly less aggressive than the 650R), the SEAT was much more comfortable than the Honda seat. The on/off throttle was far superior to my Honda which can be quite abrupt in 1st gear. The completely plastic covered seat does slightly annoy me, the "fake frame" doesn't. I do like that its a good 35 lbs lighter than my 650 though!
I ride a Gen-3 MT-09 with an excellent quick-shifter as standard and I virtually never use it. I prefer shifting normally and don’t think of quick-shifters as anything more than a gimmick for street riding, completely unnecessary. Undoubtedly brilliant on a track though.
Well thankfully we are all different , which is a good thing . 👍 I use quick shifter on every bike that has one and always notice when I get on a “brisker” bike that hasn’t got one . Each to their own 🤷🏼♂️
A great video on another good bike in this sector of the market. The road ride section was excellent and focused on the bikes reason for being with great commentary, that big overtake gave a flavour of what the bike is about.
Hi Michael. Revisited this vid plus the one on the GSX 8R. Of the two, which would you buy and why. Is the Suzuki much more comfortable? I am a similar stamp to you. Thanks Denis
Hi Dennis , Personally I preferred the 8R but that is as much to do with me as it is the bikes . The rider position on the 8R is more neutral , and the pegs lower reducing the “tucked” feeling of the Triumph which , with a more forward leaning puts more weight on your hands and wrists . The Daytona is the faster , more sporty of the bikes and the engine map adds to that feeling . Riding position is of course influenced by our exact body measurements ie how long are your legs , body and arms . Someone of the same height , can have very different dimensions which is why I always encourage people to make a short list of bikes that might like , and UA-cam videos help in this regard , and then go and try the top 2 or 3 . Returning to personal views , I am getting to the stage where full on sports bikes are more pain than pleasure to ride . The 8R is sporty but not sports and is very easy to ride. Would I like it more if it had another 20 bhp .. yes , but not if to achieve that you had to ride it constantly , on the cam .. Long answer 🤦😂 Hope it makes sense …
Yes, it does. Thanks Michael. I am due to test both this weekend. I tend to ride no more than legal limits, and these days comfort is key. I have a T120 and CB1100. Neither are what some would consider rapid, but are enough for me. Regards, Denis
Once again a very professional and informative review - thank you Michael. The Daytona whilst not being my cup of tea, will no doubt be attractive to a segment of the market.
The Suzuki is easy to ride smoothly and briskly , which suits my natural preferences . The Daytona is fast but more frenetic , which is great, if you are in the mood but to me , as I say in the conclusion , felt a bit one dimensional ..Some will really like it 👍
Haven’t ridden them all so difficult to call . Maybe one day . It is also very personal . We are like slightly different bikes and set ups . Characteristics that suit one , annoy others . Any of them taken your eye ?
Thanks Chris . It is quite frenetic. Interestingly the Triumph made me feel happy that I have moved on . I never really liked the 600 class when it was in its prime but my recent ride on the KTM 990 , possibly aimed at younger riders , was a great trip into “ old school “ riding . Great to hear from you , Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
Great indepth review, lovely looking bike and that triple sounds great, I've just bought a cbr650r e clutch, had a test ride and the e clutch was a fantastic addition to the bike, I love the look of the Honda and I find it very comfortable.
I’ve currently got a Street Triple RS, which is more feisty than I need, and was hoping the Daytona would be a bit calmer and a better tourer. Your review makes it clear that it’s not. Pity, I love the looks
If you get a chance , try one! It is a bit calmer than the RS but is still at the sportier end of these sub 100 ho bikes . You might like to also try the GSX 8R which is at the less frenetic end of the spectrum …
At the end of the day, the Daytona 660 is a sport bike. It's never going to have better touring prowess than an upright naked sport bike like your street. If you want a mid-sized tourer with a similar engine setup, go for the Tiger 660 Sport
Sadly I don’t have access to Honda’s for long enough to feel I can make a proper review . If that changes I will be delighted to review the CB650R . A good bike 👍 Thanks for watching !
GSX8R is much more upright and felt to me much more like a middleweight sports tourer. The Daytona 660 and CBR650R have a more aggressive riding posture and better top end power making them a better choice if you’re looking for something more on the sport bike side than sports touring. I went with the Daytona 660 because I wanted that more aggressive bike feel and I found the characteristics of a triple cylinder engine much preferable to that of a p-twin and the more even torque and power distribution it has compared to the 4cyl CBR650R. I feel the Daytona hits a real sweet spot in this bike category. Not everything about it is perfect but it has it where it counts most imo. I have about 450 miles on mine at the moment and I’ve loved every one of them.
I thought I wanted the white but when I saw all 3 colors in person I fell in love with the red. Something about the white just looks "unfinished" to me.
One is a mid-sized tourer, and the other is a street-focused sport bike. Apples to oranges comparison. Really comes down to whether you prefer comfort or performance
I can understand your view . They are clearly aiming at the less expensive sectors as well and the 8500 -9500 market is quite popular . Glad you liked the video . Thank you 👍
I used to think this Daytona 660 is a watered down pice of sh!t.... till I test driven it. The Daytona 660 proved me wrong after a test drive .... it beats the CBR650R.... it accelerates way faster than expected.... The acceleration will even give my 2019+ Ninja ZX-6R a run for it's money up to 80 MPH, but drives a hell of a lot easier than any supersport in tight Asian traffic.
@@MrRGM10and who cares about hard top speed with lesser acceleration? It's better to reach 230 faster than 240 a bit slower , on road the torque and less weight feels much much better than the honda
I want to like the bike - as a '02 Sprint owner I'm a bit of a Triumph fanboy - but, I have issues with manufacturers putting disguises on bikes to make it appear as though it's something it's not. I'm referring to the faux frame spars. Just show the damned frame, and if it's not good enough to show, make it good enough to show. Seeing that already disappointed me, then to see the pressed metal foot controls ... it just seems cheap, cutting corners here and there. Okay, the functionality may be there, but I appreciate quality looks too. They're a good reason why I 'look back,' as you say. You can see why an Aprilia 660 costs $1000 more ... it has higher quality bits on it. How does it compare to a Honda, Kawasaki, or Yamaha?
They have definitely cut some corners to get to the price point but a very capable and quite sporty bike . Faster than most of its Japanese competitors which will influence some . Honda CB 650R might be close ? The Aprilia is more money , which is fine , if you have it ? Probably a case of you pays your money and takes your choice ? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍

Not my kind of bike at my time of life but I would have loved it 30 years ago, today I'd be rushing off to the chiropractor. Nice video again Michael.

Always good to hear from you . The Daytona reminded me of the mid 90’s 600’s . Fast but frenetic .. . Some will love it 👍
Great review. I get the feeling that you prefer the Suzuki gsx 8r as an all around machine. Is this correct?

Nice watch.
Caught my eye too. Paused the video a number of times to get a better look. “Two toned” Submariner I believe. Mad style.
The swing arms look cast, not fabricated.
I know what you mean . According to Triumphs description it is “ fabricated” … I tend to use their words for specifications where I can 👍

Since when is a $9,200 msrp a high price?! It's literally one of the cheapest prices in this class
Set playback speed to 1.5x
For those that prefer a bit more pace in their videos, good idea👍
Cheap plastics what where triumph thinking. Just release daytona 765 would have been better since they cant compete from the likes of cbr650
