- We are going to show you the materials we used to prepare our fence for the Behr Premium Deck and Fence stain and later we will apply the Behr Premium Deck and Fence solid stain that we selected which was CORDOVAN Brown.
To do the application of the stain, we used one 3/8 nap paint disposable roller recommended for fences and decks along with several sizes of paint brushes and one mini paint tray for the detailing and one standard paint tray for the larger areas.
It took us about 2 hrs to prep the fence and 3 hrs to stain them both over a course of two days.
Wife prepped the left side of the house and Husband prepped the right side of the house on a Friday. We skipped a day to gather up new energy and then we completed the job on a Sunday. I recommend taking a day in between to rest for sure.

We wished we would have stained this fence sooner! It looks so nice! If you have an older fence that you pressure wash every year or it just looks old and stale. Do yourself a favor and at the very least do the gates or the sides of your house like we did. It makes such a difference and the work will be well worth it!
I noticed you keep saying we but he was doing all the work. It’s the same in my home.😂😂😂
Quite the contrary. We have a huge deck and I just painted two coats by myself. In addition I painted the left side of the house he painted the right side of of the house. In fact, in our house I do the plumbing electrical and he cooks.
I was joking. It looks good
Looks so good! We’re doing the same color and very excited to see how it turns out. That all in one cleaner works awesome but takes forever to wash out.
Thank you!! We did our pool deck and house deck too but we used a sprayer !! Yes, the all in one cleaner is hard work. Everything looks so sophisticated though!
We used this cleaner on our deck and then finished off with a pressure washer. I really fee the pressure washer got the most difficult part.
Sounds great. Nothing like pressure washing. It's So satisfying to see the results.. Our 2 backyard Decks and fence look so nice, we really wish we had done it years ago.
How long does the smell last? I’m worried about off gassing :( thanks! Fence looks soooo good !!
Honestly it must not have been that bad because I have no memory of any strong odors with this product that would have bothered me. The fence does look good. We are definitely still loving it!
What color did you use? We used chocolate yesterday and that color you have looks good.
Cordovan Brown
Looks good. But the wet look was prettier.
Yes, I like the wet look myself, but it doesn't stay that way more than a month. We tried a test piece, and it became very blotchy with streaking and just didn't look very high quality and our neighbors did it and their fence does not look good at all. So, we are very happy with our choice and it's not long term as we will be long gone before the paint starts to peel off the fence. :)
How long after brushing do you need to wait to be able to paint?
recommebded 24 hrs for the wood to dry. It was labor intensive however if your fence has been around for awhile it really does deep clean it gets dirt stains and mokd out.
Looks good. I was reading the instructions online for this paint and it says for Cedar and certain other wood to use the NO. 436 Exterior Multi-Surface Primer & Sealer. Is there a reason you didn't use it? Is it not needed?
Everything we purchased was recommended by the man who was working in the department he said he had over 20 years experience. Everything's been holding up nicely even through lots of rain and cold wind and snow
I have a question I just bought this color to stain some window wood shutters but on a test wood I stained and it looks dark dark is it a dark dark black/brown color??
Out of the 20+ shades of brown We would describe this color as an Umber brown and no it is no where near a shade of black however it is one of the 3 darkest shades of the 20. If you don't want to open it yet go up to home depot and look at the Behr samples provided for customer display that will illustrate In true color what it will look like on wood.
The original color looks much better, maybe neutral semi-transparent.
I would definitley have to disagree. The dark brown is very classy you should see it in person. I have a couple neighbors that have the semi transparent and the their wood looks dirty or like dirty caramel color. Not appealing to us at all.
