Having your SC bearings replaced is not that complicated. If you're swapping an upper you'll need to remove the snout and other components anyways - giving you direct access to the bearings. Jon Bond Performance sells great bearing kits that can be directly installed. The stock bearings are rated at 12K RPM (which some say is actually a bit underrated). But you can always opt for ceramic or even better ceramic hybrids which have a max of 22K RPM. Added boost from a pulley swap is going to spin the SC much faster leading to more potential for bearing failure. So IMO, it's best to just upgrade your bearings during your pulley swap and save yourself the burden. Even if you have a later model HC with healthy bearings, you'll still face bearing issues once you add boost. Better to be proactive than reactive and keep your Kitty's safer over the long run.
Oh, we could talk for an hour at least! On my 3rd Hellcat, 2 of which I have now. My original was a 2015 Challenger HC manual traded for a 16 Challenger auto. (Which I regret, watching your videos.) Had a 2004 Viper I traded for a 16 Charger HC. The 16 Challenger HC is on its 3rd SC. Both replaced under warranty in 2017, and now all seems of at 24k miles. Charger HC has 14k miles & maybe a hint of noise, but nothing like when the Challenger HC SC was making noise. Now in 2021, I agree. The "Genie is out of the bottle", the technology is familiar and sorted out, unlike back in 2015-16. If ever I face the problem again, I'll just have the SC bearing fixed. I think the problem is just in the "snout" of the SC. I have a UA-cam video with my SC noise. Take care!
I just checked it out. I don't think it's that loud yet but I'm sure it'll get there. It doesn't really bother me. Sounds a bit Mad Max to me 😂. I just don't want it to grenade itself. When I do fix it, I'll probably go with the Stage 2 ceramic bearings from Jon Bond.
Man, I am sorry to hear about this issue. I pray the actual cause of the noise is no where near the issue you think you have. In fact, bad gasoline here in Florida is causing a lot of high performance cars to experience knocks, engine noises, and lags in performance. I received a tank of bad gasoline from a Shell station in South Daytona, Florida. Thank God I had a highway trip which evacuated all the bad gas. Filled up in Jacksonville at a Shell station there, and voila, engine tapping noises and horrible performance gone. To reiterate, it could be a bad tank of fuel you are dealing with.
A bad bearing sounds absolutely nothing like bad gas, not even a little. In the case of all high compression motors, the gas doesn't have to be bad, just not exactly high octane and you will get predetenation and a whole host of performance problems. A bearing, any bearing, while the part is moving sounds almost the the supercharger only deeper, normally w an undulation. I don't really see any of the parts that break on my car as a bad thing, inconvenient yes, but it just gives me an excuse to put wtf I want back in it. As well as a dream opportunity for my son to work on a hellcat. Fixing stuff is just part of owning a performance car, any other 200 mph car would be much harder and more expensive to fix.
No performance loss that I can notice. Just the sound. I know it's got to be replaced at some point otherwise it will seize up and cause all sorts of destruction. How long I have no clue but I read about a guy who ran his for like 80K miles before that happened.
nate let me know if it was infact the bering I'm watching the video four weeks after u posted it and gess what I just bought the same exact car b5 blue 2016 and last week I noticed the same noise in saying that I live twenty miles outside of Boston and it has ben much colder the last two weeks and I know my truck wines in the cold just like that to
I don't think there's an easy way to tell besides just waiting and seeing if the sound gets louder or taking the supercharger off and inspecting the bearings. I'll wait until at least the summer and then see how it sounds. How loud is yours now?
It does sound like the bearing is going out. You can buy a mechanics stethoscope for fairly cheap and try to listen to it to confirm before spending the $$ .
Mine went out at like 50k I think. At the time the only way you could get ANY parts, even the gaskets, was to buy the entire supercharger. Also the brand new one had a bad part in it, that's why my supercharger was replaced twice. Got it done under the factory power train warranty.
Yeah much better options now but still sucks. I think I read on the Hellcat the gasket is reusable but on the Redeye you need to use gasket maker. Something else I'm gonna need to validate.
There's a guy on eBay that sells Hennessey takeoffs for just under 2K. They're practically new units. I bought one of those and swapped it in my garage. It's not hard to do but you'll probably need a helper to physically swap the supercharger. He said they only sell the 2018+ units to avoid dealing with bearing issues.
@@natesrt I am the second owner and it's done that as long as I've had it. The original owner was my friend who unfortunately passed away and is far as I know or any of our other friends know the supercharger is still original. I checked with the dealer where he had all the service done and it's not on record that it was ever changed or serviced at all. That's a good question. I browse used superchargers occasionally. I'm hoping to replace it before it lets go, but I'm not in a huge hurry about it either. It's a very early car, first or second batch of Challenger hc.
i bought a lowmile trackhawk supercharger im about to swap on. its getting to the point that the car stumbles at cold start. i think the blower is providing resistance. 118000 miles now. i think ive pushed it long enough.
Seriously though, I also have a first year hellcat and I think keeping it stock is the way to go, I would go for the rebuild if it boils down to it.As time goes on these things are going to continue to be beat on and moded out and before you know it clean non widebody cats will dry up. (Especially six speeds). I’m sure someone will say that there are a million of them out there and it doesn’t matter. To that i say when’s the last time you’ve seen a clean foxbody just cruising around, keep it stock brother. 😎
@@sjw811 Agreed. I'm probably going to do the Stage 3 rebuild with the ceramic bearings. Will give me peace of mind if I ever do the tune that Dodge will release and keeps the parts OEM for the most part. It's just gonna suck not being able to drive the car for a while.

Thanks man. I'm hoping it clears up with warmer weather but doubt it. Bright side is I'll have a beefier unit after the refurb is done to play with 😁

@@natesrt I never heard that, the supercharger is pretty easy for a supercharger, it's basically like a heavy intake manifold all one piece.
Just got a 2015 hellcat with 33k miles and I have the same problem. What’d you end up doing?

When did it start making the noise? Are you going to wait until it gives or are you planning to swap it out soon?

When was it replaced? I think if after 2017 then you should be safe.
