I remember the floor scanner gadget scene to be way too sci-fi. Columbo had his tech shenannigans throughout the decades, but they were mostly very grounded. And I thought that the club crowd in the reveal scene was 105% comprised of young Columbo fans, which wanted to get in a shot with their idol. Who else would stand in a night club, mesmerized by the ramblings of an old man and not wanting to get away from the police?
Oh my gosh! I cannot believe you are going to review The Rockford Files. Like Colombo, I have always been an enormous James Garner fan. The Rockford files is to this day still in my top five favorite series of all time. For me, it is Columbo, the Rockford Files, Hawaii 5-0, Law & Order, and Nash Bridges... as with Columbo, I own every season of Rockford, including the reunion movies of the 90's. Also like Columbo, I own the Rockford case book, and I have an autographed photo of Garner. Cannot wait for your concise reviews.. Columbo Likes The Nightlife was a great ending to the Columbo series.... Thanks for the work you did...

I’m not sure if The Rockford Files is on any US streaming site but you can find the series of DVD quite reasonably priced. If I do take a look at Murder She Wrote I’ll have to work out how to pick which episodes I want to cover. That’s a huge series.

you probably have been asked this before - but why do you not keep the original format of the show, and do the insufferable stretch to widescreen? is it to avoid content matches?
Basically yes, while legally me using clips from the show falls entirely into fair usage for the purposes of review, without a team of lawyers to fight any claims to the contrary it’s easier to do what I can to avoid content matches.
A good review which you give a fair rating. A traditional Columbo to close out the series. I wasn't a big fan when this episode came out but now I have a higher opinion. Isn't having a younger antagonist with modern a club/music the way for a retiring detective to end his career?
I think it was a return to tradition in some ways but tried too hard to be trendy in others. I think pitting a young murderer against the older detective is a good idea too but feel like they should have made him more successful from the start. It’s not as bad an episode as people seem to think.

Good review! For me this is a rather a weak episode because of the disco music which is just bad, the first murder is really unrealistic and the two murder characters are not good characters. This is probably one of my least favorite Columbo episodes sadly. This was not a good way to end such an amazing tv show. I am looking forward to other videos about Columbo.
I can understand all of your issues with the episode. I agree with your points and that this wasn’t the send off Columbo deserved but I enjoyed the episode a lot more when rewatching for my review and found that there were certain things about it worked really well for me.
The first murder is not common (someone dying from a simple bump), but it happens. As I saw one podcast say about this episode, "The first guy died way too easily, and the other guy won't die". 🤣
My response was exactly like yours. I like the episode and there are terrible details here and there, like the inappropriate music. I am a composer so that club stuff hurts my bones. Your idea of two differing styles, one being Columbo's personal sounds, would have made the episode infinitely better. And yes, a rather mediocre villain.

Thank you. Columbo will return in one form or another but not nearly as frequently and I’m really looking forward to a new challenge with Rockford.
Nice! My late dad enjoyed Rockford and got me watching it with him in the 1970s. It is quality stuff, not surprising given James Garner is so good.
Oh, and I love the shirt! (Although, as an avid scribbler and doodler: I'd have used the ad with the evil triangular beard myself)

I have never watched this one to the end because of the extremely annoying music. It is the second worst Columbo episode ever.
