the breaking loud noises of this song truly make it the tomshiv song it's so good can't get over you starting the song with the ending and ending it with their love confession like fuckk the small everyday moments the I TURNED DOWN EVERY HAND with logan for shiv and kendall for tom, the way everyone kept hinting to Tom that Shiv was going to leave HIM behind (kendall, roman, greg kinda with the cheating), obsessed with how they did that on the show and then had him be the one. the DRESS scene where she's sitting with logan and Tom sees her as so in control while actually she's just hit rock bottom the constantly with greg (see what you did there) and nate IS THIS REAL once again that ending is devastating

I'm so sorry to bother you since I know I commented yesterday, but I just have to come back and actually compliment this even more because I cannot get over it. I am so utterly enthralled with the NARRATIVE you put forth of their love- in the beginning, how you splice their innocent S1 "love" with the scene of Shiv noting Tom's betrayal. There is a really heartbreaking play between a genuine sweetness in many of their interactions, combined with the true tragedy of their relationship falling apart. The pieces of dialogue are expertly chosen and fit MASTERFULLY into the sound editing. All of these pieces DO SHOW the fact that, on some level Shiv does love him even if she cannot let herself do so. The way you pair Mitski's line "I will be the one you live" with Shiv's "I need you"- Shiv DOES mean it. S4 especially has shown that he IS incredibly important to her. And UGH the "I wonder if the sad I'd be without you would be less than the sad I get from being with you" just GUTTED ME, and there is a really perfect interplay of Shiv's next words "Fear, jealousy, revenge, control" fitting with the sound of the song. I am honestly fascinated by the craft of this.
I know I'm coming back to this really late but I just wanna say I appreciate you sharing your thoughts!! I feel like most people who make fanworks really appreciate comments (I know I do) so thank you for sharing your thoughts about this and I'm really glad it resonated :)
This is a good video! They say that, usually in romantic relationships, one partner has more love for the other. I believe that it is Tom for Shiv, who really has no concept of the emotion other than wanting it. She has love in her way for Tom but is intent on driving him away because that is all that she ever got. Having said that, I think Tom does what is best for Tom and Shiv. Her brothers are really not going to look out for her, nor her mother. Logan will to a point, but I really don't think that he wants a woman running the company and he is not enamored of his three sons.
I feel like you could easily argue they both love each other in the same way/amount though. Tom has very deliberately seduced her and tried to make her love him over and over because of his servile and greedy nature. He wanted to make a place for himself and shiv was that key. He lovebombed her and sacrificed himself over and over not really out of love but because of the future he wants for himself. The top job, a wife and a child. He did this because that’s the only way he believed he could receive true admiration and respect (Tom is very much fucked up like the rest of them) he did that so he could receive the “love”that actually matters to him- the kind that he has to earn. What he didn’t realize is that this would trap him in a place where he is needed but never actually wanted or desired by anyone genuinely and vice versa. “I will be the one you need, the way i can’t be without you”. They need each other but theyll always resent each other. And need isn’t necessarily the same as love. Tom has always wanted the idea of what shiv could give him more than who she really is
@@tomosobi3603 You make some very valid points, some that Wambsgans admitted. However, I got the impression that he fell in love along the way, which was not his intent. Tom does seem to "know" Shiv much better than she she "knows" him and even herself.
