I showed my dad attack on Titan right before season 4 part 2 aired, he was absolutely never into anime or wanted anything to do with it. I moved away to the city not too long ago and one of his first questions was “what are we going to do about watching attack on Titan when it comes back?”. Idk why but that kinda broke my heart a bit lol
this is my opinion, i could be totally wrong, but i think, the reason why levi showed more emotion to the death of his comrades compared to earlier seasons was because of the fact that he had time to grow an attachment to them since paradis hadn’t had any deaths due to titans in four years, probably
Moments of true Eren, IMO: Him rushing to hug Armin when he wakes up after eating Bertholt. Him begging Historia to eat him to and save everyone from the Titans. Him telling everyone on the train that they he cares about him more than anyone else. Him telling Mikasa that he'll wrap that scarf around her as many times as she wants. Him begging Levi to pick Armin because, unlike him, whose mind is full of hate, Armin's is full of dreams
I think the concept of a 'true' Eren is really tricky, especially past season 4. One of the reasons I love Eren is because he is so impossible to reduce to a simple trope, or a single ideal which makes him feel so human. We are so complex and its so easy to say one thing but mean another. For me, Eren is shown beautifully in many scenes: His scream as his mother died (pain), his promise to destroy the titans (rage), his face as Reiner betrays him (shock), his defeat asking Historia to eat him (depression), his speech when fighting Rod Reiss (hope), his desperation in saving Armin (friendship) and his eternal love for both his friends and Mikasa (love). There are moments in the show when Eren (and others) question the 'true' nature of Eren but I think the show wants us to make our own minds up, just like we do with real people. If anyone is interested in this concept, of maybe trying to find a 'real' Eren then look into the concept of the 'Child of Evil'. It interlinks with the children of the forest, and is explicitly explored through both 'The Rumbling' intro and 'Akuma no Ko' Outro.
Something that I love about Armin this ep is that he literally never gets mad at Eren for all the stuff he told him even when he crossed the line with him, but he went crazy when he made Mikasa cry by all the terrible things he intentionally said to her. That says so much about him and his friendship with Mikasa, I love them.
If Levi has or had an Ackerman 'host' like Mikasa supposedly has with Eren, it would have been Erwin (not Eren). Similarly Kenny's would have been Uri.
It is fun when you rewatch the series that Mikasa does get headaches which is something I didnt notice going through the first time. Watch how many times she holds the side of her head.

It's great to finally hear someone say so openly what you're saying about the Jaegerists, you're completely right about them. Seeing logical ppl as you guys understanding the show and paying attention to it is like the best thing ever after seeing sm ppl like that, love you.
I was believing what Eren was saying until he said, "Even since I was little, I always hated you Mikasa". That's when I knew he was spewing bullshit just to hurt them + distance themselves from him. He cares about Mikasa deeply even before meeting her. He freaking killed adult-trafficking-murderers at only 10 years old just so he could save her. Also, Armin connection with Annie was there since their training days. Memories can affect the successors, sure, but not control/manipulate how they feel towards others. I 100% believe Armin feelings towards Annie is genuine.
Yes, and then he conspired with the Jaegerists, and was not against the plan with wine, in all this cases, Armin and Mikasa could get hurt, so now he obviously does not care about the safety of his friends or he just stupid
@@F1ash1056yes he is, eren saw everything and planned from the beginning, reason he does not save sasha i am strongly believe that will make the future change so he let it be like his mother case
Tbh I have never understood why people believes Eren is saying the truth, it's a fact that he says things that make sense and have some kind of proof, so he's doing it well for Mikasa and Armin to feel like they do, but I don't feel that should be the case for the public. The three biggest lies Eren tells here is something the public can quickly realise aren't true. 1. Eren saying Armin trying to talk with their enemies and make peace is bc of Bertholdt's memories even when since before he even had the colossal back in Shiganshina when the warriors were the biigest enemy Armin still tried to talk with them, negotiate and make peace without fighting. 2. Say that Armin is just close to Annie bc of Berth's feelings as if we didn't know that he's close to her since season 1, we have to remember Armin noticed she killed Sawney and Bean with Marco's odm gear and he still covered her for an entire month and didn't think she could be involved in Marco's death bc he couldn't believe she would do something like that. And all this without mentioning that if you fall in love with the person the last one who had your titan fell in love with then..., you're not going to tell me you believe Eren is in love with his mom, right? That shows for itself that it isn't how it works. 3. One of the biggest points and revelations in season 3 about the king is that the Ackermans were literally getting killed bc they were against the king, they betrayed him bc they didn't agree with him about erasing the memories and letting titans kill them and since they couldn't be controlled they started to get killed bc of that, this was confirmed by Uri who has the memories and will of Karl Fritz controlling him, the king that got betrayed by the Ackermans. So how's anyone going to believe the Ackermans are slaves that can't betray their host when we have this type of confirmation?
I don't think Floch's speech was like Erwin in the slightest, it's important to keep in mind that the two of them were motivational speeches but while in this one Floch try to recruit soldier to achieve his objective(s). Erwin's was also to achieve a goal but the base of his speech was a questionnement about the cruelty of ilfe that renders all life meaningless and his speech was a response to it ironnicly despite being an inspirationnel speech, it was way more like Sasha's Father speech, also about the cyle of violence. One was that a response to cruellty is Sacrifice and an unparalleled Belief in others so that they can make the sacrifice meaningfull. And one was about giving up on your desire for revenge and also adding slightly this subtility about children many other chracters (Kenny,Eren,Gaby, even Mikasa in season 1 you'd be surprised) can add up to this answer against AOT, against cruelty. But Floch's speech is not a speech of that sort. But I'm proud of king Floch neverthless, he has come a long way.
It's cruel that Mikasa's love is viewed like that. It's so pure and true that someone would make a reason for it to be unreal. ISAYAMA is indeed a savage.
If Floch were more charismatic and not so impulsive he would surely have more support, instilling fear is not so necessary when you have a coherent reason to fight since saving people from paradise is a reason for which many would be willing to give up lifetime.
His whole ideology is impulsive and reactionary and he's just the personification of that way of thinking. Plus, he IS charismatic in a nationalist-dictator kind of way
@@nicolascardenas4002 I mean that he must know how to handle the way try to convince others to follow , in order to be more successful, not all people can be convinced in the same way.
I don’t think charisma is Floch’s biggest problem. His problem is he has no sense of strategy himself, just tagging along with people who do and he has no understanding of tact or how to take other people’s views into account who don’t directly agree with him.
@@jordandwiggins1026 That's what I mean, it would be better for tact to deal with different people, not everyone is convinced in the same way, and in the case of opponents, if they are a threat, he should deal with them in a "convenient" way. For example, sending to be beaten Shadis in front of students who respected him was not very smart, he earned their enmity for not thinking things through.
Oh that's interesting 🤔 I know that part 1 has some little troubles here and there (best example is Pixis big head) but the drawing style is way more adult and rough in a way that's more fitting, in my opinion. While the 2nd part really disappointed me with it's way to childish drawn style, kinda to slick? I hope you know what I mean 🙈. Also didn't seemed very refined. I liked the faces of the characters way better in part 1, didn't felt their emotions much in the 2nd one due to the bad drawings. ^^"
I think anime watchers should read the uprising arc (s3 part 1). Levi chokes historia out and almost beats her up. The anime tried to cut out a lot of things that would make the main cast unlikable
And it hurts so much to see Armin getting beat up by Eren. Apparently, Armin used to be beaten up by other kids a lot. =/ And now his best friend is doing it, it hurts.
Ah yes.... Eren fighting Armin and arguing with Mikase. Because he couldn't win an argument with Armin and a fight with Mikasa. And the Levi Curse.... to be the one who survives the longest, and having to watch your comrades die, time after time.
That's a weird interpretation. Eren started to argue with armin but mikasa interrupted him. Armin is the one that started the physical fight with eren.
That's kinda funny that in early episodes students were thought to fight against people as well - thinking it's useless. Now people are thought to fight against titans thinking it's useless. Irony.
I love how outclassed Zeke is. He thinks he has Levi cornered but it takes him only a minute to cut through thirty titans and reach Zeke, and their fight is over before it can really begin.
It was at this moment that Zeke became one of my favorite characters! He is not on the Top 5 only because there are other 5 that I care more 🤣 Also, the song is K21! One of the best together with call your name, bauklotze and S4 Part 2 Opening in my opinion 😁 Loved your discussions as always!
(spoilers) I absolutely despise the trope where a character has to be mean to their friends and can't be honest for some reason. Either because they're a hostage, or being watched, or need to push their friends away to protect them, etc. I hate it so much. Not in the sense of hating that the author chose to use this trope, but I just find it one of the most painful tropes. I can handle friends facing the entire world together and going through hell, but at least they're _together_ ... But when there's conflict between them and their pain is because of that? That's just the worst, it's so heartbreaking to see. Pretty much everything he said there was a lie. Mikasa genuinely cared about him and Eren never hated her. Armin might be influenced by Bertholdt's memories but he's still his own person. And Eren is not free. He never was. That's the most heartbreaking part. His entire life, he was fighting for his freedom, inherited the titan that always reached for freedom no matter what era it found itself in, he reached the sea where he thought he'd find freedom, but it wasn't there... When he found out the truth, that there's even less freedom outside the walls, then when he saw his "destiny" after touching Historia's hand... The one person who valued freedom more than anything else in the entire world, could never reach freedom, it just wasn't possible for him. Isayama is a genius but whew he's also such a sadist.
Something that's important to remember is what Pixis said a few episodes ago: Do you want to know how to tell a good lie? You have to mix in a little bit of the truth.
wow, i want that shirt. your discussions make me cry cos of the empathy behind the brilliant thoughts... 😭 omg! i never thought about this... why would eren want to find zeke asap and not in the "designated area" they already planned to meet?! holy shit. this is important... now i'm re-thinking again! thanks, anna and ben!
@AutoSave Again, love your channel. Love your theories around Eren at the table. Prepare yourselves! @Ben, you are on it. All of Season 4(so far) will make you rethink the whole anime! You guys have 1 more episode in Season 4, Part 1. Season 4, Part 2 is awesome & through ep. 28. And I'm so excited for this last part or Final-Final Season!
I cried when Levi saw Varis' face on that Titan form of his. And cried even more hearing him say "You guys…" while all his comrades attacks him in their titan ver. He has lost soooo many damn comrades and who knows how he can even continue this job, he's so broken inside.
i think we all can agree that all of our hearts were broken during this. episode because this Eren that we just witnessed is a totally different person. He acts like a total stranger, like we dont know him. At the same time, hes not wrong, i agree with some of the stuff he told his best friends but he could've told them those nicely, but then again, i think he acted and talked like that to them on purpose. Yk as just like yall said, might be for them to hate them and join allies eith the world to defeat Eren and Zeke, make themselves the villain potentially.
I think what Ben said "It does not have to do this for this show to be good", because first of all, it already is. good. I completely agree because it's the best way to say it
11:10 his eyes make me so mad Like that's his momentary grieving face and ughhh If it doesn't seem familiar the eyes are similar to when he passed his teammates and stopped to look closer at Petra 15:40 YESSSS KSAVER TIME 30:50 aaa like Pixis said 42:50 ? Eren only talks about mistakenly being Mikasa's host dang I thought they'd go to Levi and Kenny Uri 43:24 that doesnt matchh
The episode where any sympathy I had for Eren was completely lost. What a massive tool and a coward. Trying to argue with Mikasa and fight Armin. Armin was awesome here though, you can tell his last words really got under Eren's skin.
52:09 Yes... season 3 episode 8 when Eren used his crystalization ability to protect his friends. "But he didn't have the war hammer titan yet" yeah... crazy right? How ever did he know how to do that I wonder..
All those intances of savagery, and they forget to mention Eren's beatdown of Armin 😵 I can't help wondering if "Ksaver" is a reference to Xavier (e.g. Charles Xavier) in some way. You know, since the letter "x" is pronounced /ks/ in most words. But I don't think Ksaver's ways of thinking match Xavier's in any meaningful respect.
Eren said memories change who you are. He has 4 sets of memories. And of competing ideologies. The Attack titan is basically the avatar of anarchy. The founding titan is the polar opposite to that, a being of order and collective responsibility. And then the War Hammer titan is a bit of a mystery to us but it is said it carried all the previous memories of their line. His sheer force of will is probably the only reason he's functional.
And also why do you think Eren even talked to Reiner in the first place if he didn't have an internal conflict, he wanted to see how it affected someone who walked for a moment the same path Eren's considering to walk. But to understand the answer he got out of that, you should definetly rewatch the show and try your best to collect the informations that could help you understand what Eren got out of that conversation or see this video : ua-cam.com/video/uCVbdvRcwkg/v-deo.html
The thumbnail reminded me of how the anime for some reason removed the blood and injury from Eren's face after their fight. It looks so lame, lol like the anime had to make Eren look perfect to encapsulate how COOL and AWESOME he is.
I love watching your reactions. I watch the reaction, then I do dishes or whatever else I'm doing while I listen to the discussion. You guys really dig into the things you watch, it's so much fun :)
Spoiler don't read unless you've finished manga It's sad that Levi had to kill his comrades because after the end all of the pure titans go back to humans, so they would have been able to get saved, but of course he didn't know that and had no choice.
yeah and then there's Hangë ultimately dying through my top fear 🔥, like, I'm nervously anticipating the delivery there and at the goodbye. Also Ramzi and his brother made me sob- not actually sure where the anime ended last (precisely) since I only watch the reactions half the time
@@owenchafer1083 no character is necessarily the definite successor of Erwin, but he’s sorta split into several people now. Floch, Hange, and Armin hhave all become inheritors of erwins legacy in a way, embodying different aspects of his role and to different extremes. Floch has definitely taken on erwins mantle of leadership and oratory skills to wind people up. A lot of people tend to see floch in a negative light but what he’s doing isn’t all that different from Erwin, and that’s a significant part of season 4. Season 4 makes people react to things and think they’re distasteful, like eldian children being used as war candidates or jingoistic military propaganda, but those are all things that were always present within the walls that we ignored or cheered on (ie, paradis had children making up the bulk of their army since season 1 which most people gloss over but seem to have a problem with marley doing)
Floch is the successor to specific aspects of Erwin, as are Hange, Armin, Eren and Levi all in different ways. None of them really fully encapsulate who Erwin is or what he would do in this situation.
Eh, kinda. He's not nearly smart enough, and he's a bit of an impulsive prick. But yeah, he's got a similar attitude - he literally took said attitude from Erwin.
This is not a spoiler because what I am going to say has not been proven in the anime yet (and I am not a manga reader either so..) I still can't believe what Eren said in this episode, not because I believe in the power of friendship or that Eren is a 100% good person, but for many reasons that I will mention below: First for Mikasa, (I hate you) this sentence alone doesn't make sense at all.. It's true that there were times when Eren yelled at her not because he hated her but because he wanted to protect her like his mother said and rely on himself + he said before that he's jealous of her(because he wanted to protect the people he loves too) - there was no sign of the Ackermans blindly following their groomsmen"like slaves."Take Kenny for example. He followed the reiss to the end of his own free will because he respected Rod's brother. But when he finds out that Rod was lying, what did he do? He disobeyed his orders and even tried to kill him, and as for Levi, we saw in his OVA that he did not have a good relationship with Erwin from the start, and the power of the Ackerman was triggered when he saw the corpses of his friends, and even after activating it, he was trying to kill Erwin, he didn’t trust erwin words but he wanted to see it with his own eyes and followed him, time passed and they became united by a relationship of trust in the season 3 he was also against Erwin's desire to go to battle, and levi was trying to break his feet so that he would not go.. Levi's seeing his friends dead is like Mikasa seeing her parents.. Eren saved Mikasa of his own will without his father's knowledge, and he put the scarf around her and we saw his expression (his cheeks turned red) And in Season 2, when she's about to die, he tells her, "I'll wrap the scarf around you like you want" - so he hates her? Mikasa was a child who brutally lost her parents in front of her eyes and was about to be sold and killed. She lost hope of living, but after saving her, she considered Eren her only family. And the behavior she did in this episode seemed to me that she did not want to see her two best friends fighting as she said”Please stop you two” - And as for Armin, we all know that he had some feelings for Annie for years, and it has nothing to do with Bertolt. If Armin mind was washed by Bert doesn’t mean that eren is the same with the WARHAMMER TITAN(tyber family believes) titan memories affect the feelings? If that’s true , why did Eren say that Zeke's plan was stupid at first when Eren's father loved Zeke? .. You can also notice that when Eren talks, Mikasa and Armin are zoomed with the image of clock moving, isn't the clock symbolic of hypnosis? My answer is I think Eren was trying to hurt his friends to keep them away from him at that moment.
We have now reached a point where cliffhangers hurt physically.
As much as Eren's fists in Armin's face.
@@cassie6146 And Eren's words to Mikasa.

It's actually crazy to me how many people take him at face value in this moment, it's like they completely forget everything that he has done and said
Yes, and then he conspired with the Jaegerists, and was not against the plan with wine, in all this cases, Armin and Mikasa could get hurt, so now he obviously does not care about the safety of his friends or he just stupid
@@F1ash1056 I think you're forgetting our guy has literally seen the future and knows for a fact they don't get hurt
@@DrewDragoon but he doesnt see all future, for example Zeke's test with chains, and Sasha's death
Dont you mean eren 😏

In the words of The Oracle:
"You're not here to make the choice. You already made it. You're here to understand why you made it."
He has zero empathy. He is totally blind to things around him, bigger than himself.
The personification of solipsim.
S4 part 1 animation is kinda rough imo, but S4 part 2 is prolly the best AoT Ever looked

Yeah the torture started with Sannes and his lackeys actually. Whatever happened to Sannes?
I think anime watchers should read the uprising arc (s3 part 1). Levi chokes historia out and almost beats her up. The anime tried to cut out a lot of things that would make the main cast unlikable
Levi is Akaman, even if he drinks wine, he won't turn into a titan

I absolutely despise the trope where a character has to be mean to their friends and can't be honest for some reason.

The episode where any sympathy I had for Eren was completely lost. What a massive tool and a coward. Trying to argue with Mikasa and fight Armin. Armin was awesome here though, you can tell his last words really got under Eren's skin.
Clearly you don't understand what he was actually doing then and are missing the forest for the trees
@@DrewDragoon I know what he was doing. He was pushing them away, but Eren only gets more villainous from here on out.
52:09 Yes... season 3 episode 8 when Eren used his crystalization ability to protect his friends. "But he didn't have the war hammer titan yet" yeah... crazy right? How ever did he know how to do that I wonder..
Zeke: You wouldn't kill your whole squad, would you?
Levi: Do you have any idea how many times my entire squad died?
All those intances of savagery, and they forget to mention Eren's beatdown of Armin 😵
I can't help wondering if "Ksaver" is a reference to Xavier (e.g.
His sheer force of will is probably the only reason he's functional.
ohh, it hurts
"You have no a damn clue how many comrades we have killed"
this line hurts me the most
oh madd im early
And also why do you think Eren even talked to Reiner in the first place if he didn't have an internal conflict, he wanted to see how it affected someone who walked for a moment the same path Eren's considering to walk. But to understand the answer he got out of that, you should definetly rewatch the show and try your best to collect the informations that could help you understand what Eren got out of that conversation or see this video :

It's so cool how they built those little rocket pod things like a fighter jet has to launch salvos of spears instead of just one per hand.

Anna's comparison of Floch to Erwin hits again. Floch is the true successor of Erwin.
Absolutely
I don't really see that. Honestly, I don't think ANY of the characters are a definitive successor of Erwin.
This is not a spoiler because what I am going to say has not been proven in the anime yet (and I am not a manga reader either so..)
I still can't believe what Eren said in this episode, not because I believe in the power of friendship or that Eren is a 100% good person, but for many reasons that I will mention below: First for Mikasa, (I hate you) this sentence alone doesn't make sense at all.. And the behavior she did in this episode seemed to me that she did not want to see her two best friends fighting as she said”Please stop you two”
-
And as for Armin, we all know that he had some feelings for Annie for years, and it has nothing to do with Bertolt.
He needs them to oppose him for his ultimate plan to unfold, the ends justify the means
