Ain't gonna lie, cutting out and making the doors functional was a real "Mission Impossible" for me, so seeing them fly off at 1000ft was quite the punch in the gut for me. But y'all nailed the design on the body and it did exactly what it was designed to do. Great job Starr Creations, it's a total success!!! Now I just have to figure out how to keep the doors on. 😁
Love all the work you've put into Cleetus' and everyone's cars Troy! I really had no clue how'd you get functional doors on it. I wouldn't feel bad about them flying off the first time it went 200!
If LeRoy didn’t have doors that got blown off/out when making that pass the side windows would have blown out. Simple put air is packing under LeRoy’s body and needs some vents (speed holes) to keep the doors in place on the big end

Amazing job to everyone involved! It will do even better when it matters... when the DA is good. Without a body Leroy fights extreme wind resistance that worsens as the air Density increases. This is only the beginning of the potential.

@@BoPunk well I figure at 200+mph a small lip over everything is a small deal to keep the window/doors in..and I know it's not really pressure inside the body..it's the vacuum on the outside of the side windows as slip stream divides over the a-pillars to the side...it pulls the windows out..catches the main edge of it and poof..gone. Funny car body aside..he needs those doors or top hatch for safety tech...might as well make them integrally secure for the life of the body..less worry for the owner. Make them heavier in panel strength and lip them into the body..no hinge.. just pop and lift drop..kinda like a home window..it sits in it's tracks..but has enough room up top to lift up and pull out to clean..so similar but latch lock in place

Well done Starr Creations team! What about underside plates? I'm more familiar with rally style kevlar composite ones, but would you do aluminum plates? I'm not sure how that would even integrate with your design My point is that car needs to reduce air pressure on the underside and help eliminate turbulent air that may cause drag, etc. Why go through all the trouble of the body if no properly done underside.
could it improve it? slightly, it's more useful in road racing for ground effect downforce and while rally uses them there's very little actual performance gain from it but when you're in such a restricted series you'll do what ever you can for a couple seconds. now does leroy need it? no there's a million other things they can do that will show useful gains. also the body isn't meant to permanently stay on the car so you'd have to remove all of that stuff every time you want to take it off.
Grubworm is already petitioning to not see that happen. 😆 (fan fiction btw... Atkins has no qualms currently). It'll be an interesting matchup, and i'm assuming it'll shape the rulebook come 2025 for the stickshift class...
@BoPunk I think Grubworm is steel roof and quarters? You're probably right. Cletus's shaking up the rules with Leroy from taking the body all the way off to putting this crazy body back on 😆

@@SteveMacdaddyThe odd thing with Leroy is that it's still surprisingly heavy, there's another Corvette in the class that was lighter even before they added the body. I suspect Leroy's drag coefficient isn't that spectacular compared to a stock Corvette or Camaro either, the body helps a ton, but a stock C5 is absurdly slippery and the newer ones and the 4th-gen Camaros aren't far behind.
They may end up removing the last 100lb weight in the rear and if they decide to always run with the body on, take out Leroy's primary window for more weight reduction. Exciting.
