Got chased into the middle of a lake at 12 years old because dumb cousin thought it was a good idea to approach a small moose and before I could yell to them to get back I could hear the snapping of branches and this huge mother moose kept chasing us until we were literally in the center of a lake, and moose can swim so we knew we were ruined if it decided to swim after us, but she just paced back and forth at the edge for a minute and then both the baby and mom went back to the woods

Yep. I heard the lioness had cubs somewhere or something like that? I ran into one once, we were in a car and it would NOT leave, didn't want to hit it, but it kept blocking our route out, and trying to get in the vehicle each time we stopped for it. Clearly learned behavior, probably from other "nature lovers" throwing food at it.

That bird video is from here in Australia. We have a "Swooping season" over here where the Magpie's are laying eggs and they swoop and attack you if you walk, or ride your bike past their nests. You don't know until it's too late. You legit just have to cover your head and make a run for it. Then it's just a matter of can you run fast enough to get away - and how angry is the bird already. There was a really sad case here last year when a new mum was walking along the street carrying her baby and was attacked by a Magpie. She tripped over and unfortunately her baby ended up passing away from the injuries from the fall. So when Magpies attack - the fear is real......

Better safe than sorry… I live in the country in Nor Cal, where there’s plenty of mountains lions. They scare me more than a bear. They’re huge, mean & are watching you & you have idea they’re there. I was in my Grand Cherokee Jeep crossing a small creek with my boys & a mountain lion just appeared & crossed in front of us. It was as long as front of my Jeep & almost as high in height. It’s tail was huge too. Scary animal…

Silence and element of surprise is what a cat wants when it stalks its prey. Letting it know you are well aware of its presence will greatly reduce your chances of being attacked. The cat is literally backing him down and the man does EXACTLY what you should. Another cat would be verbal, make itself big and retreat while keeping eye contact until it could get away. This is how you should act.

Minor detail about bear defense: a brown bear's skull is both sloped and extremely thick. Headshots are actually one of the worst tactics you can use on a bear that's down on all fours. They've been known to shrug off shotgun slugs and smaller caliber rifle rounds to the head because the bullet just skips off.
    TL;DR - a .40 probably isn't big enough.

A headshot with a 40 would kill it...but not instantly thats what you have to remember. They are so damn tough they can be dead but have about 20 seconds of rage where you still get killed. If you have a pistol, unload on 'em dont think one shot will stop it.

I live in the Adirondack wilderness in northern New York. But I grew up around the block from DMX, rest in power. Black bears here don't mess with moose. But grizzlies, which aren't found here, will go after whatever, never mind how big. But all alpha predators will first take out the weak and the old. Nature's population control. A grizzly might think about it before stepping up to an alpha moose in his prime. Those antlers swing like Francis Ngannou. I love what you're doing. Very relatable. Super entertaining. If you can, please do a DMX track.

I hooked my cousin in the eyelid, flying fishing in Scotland. We standing side by side. I whipped the fly back and the wind blew and hooked him straight through the eye lid. Had to freeze his eye and remove the barb to slide it out.

to remove a fishhook you flatten the barb with a pair of pliers. You SHOULD flatten them before using, to avoid the whole thing of trying to do it while impaled. been snagged a few times. in Canada now you aren't even supposed to have a Barb, idk about the States. But when I was a kid (in the 70's/80's) we always had barbs on our lines and that was the plan. thus from all my training a pair of pliers is a necessary part of your fishing tackle

The Instinct to run from animals is very strong in all humans, no matter where you live.
I live in New Zealand and the scariest encounter I had was extremely pathetic. Me and my brother went for a dive to get high and found ourselves a few hours away from home at the top of some hills/cliffs near a place called Aramoana.
We saw 4 yellow eyes in the pitch black. I stood behind him getting ready to run.
    They were sheep....
Smart me, who was born and raised here knows there's no truly dangerous wildlife here, boar and deer, sure. But middle of the night, eyes in the darkness me was only thinking about surviving.
Did I make that instinct part up to make me seem more manly, being scared of sheep?
    Maybe.

It's a good point about human instinct, and it makes sense. On our own, humans are pretty low-tier animals. Weak, slow, clumsy, terrible senses, not even any claws to speak of, etc. It's not a bad thing to err on the side of humility in the face of nature.
Boar can be super dangerous. Those tusks do not fuck around. Even a deer can smack you up pretty well if it wants. Sheep aren't really physically dangerous, sure, but a lone sheep wandering at night has a few too many Satanic overtones for my liking. I haven't logged thousands of hours watching horror flicks to end-up as "gullible victim #1" in the end-credits.
If I'm seeing unknown eyes in the dark, I'm steering clear unless I have very good reason not to. Sure, it's probably not a lion or a Predator or whatever, but "it was the most unlikely of fatal attacks" is cold comfort when it's being said over your corpse. And that's without getting into things like, say, the incredible number of apex predators in private zoos, and how poorly-maintained and -regulated those things are. Only takes one crazy dude with a tiger "enclosed" behind dilapidated chain-link to change your risk calculus to some degree.
There's "manly" and there's "foolish", and things can, and often do, go real bad, real fast when one confuses the two.

Jocko Willink (Navy SEAL) says your first line of defense is your feet. If you can run away from something or can keep your distance from it then you’re safe. That’s why there’s fight or flight (or freeze). Your brain has to analyze all variables and decide immediately if it’s better to fight or run away. For you it could’ve been wolves or something. Can’t fight them.
