I remember seeing this ep and calling them the Tommy Oliver B team. Black MMPR and blue Ninja storm ranger worked with him. Yellow dino ranger is his student, red SPD ranger trained by the Tommy Oliver program and green mystic force ranger is a green ranger.
Calling the sword “Excelsior “ is a call back to the first man to try to bring this type of show to the US. Stan Lee, who was exposed to through the Sentai connected Spider-Man show. Once A Ranger is a good team-up but certainly not flawless, with the Plot holes in the existence of Thrax and the lack of interaction between the returning Rangers and the Overdrive team. Also the Sentinal Knight was voiced by Nic Sampson aka Chip from Mystic Force
Excelsior isn't a call back, it was meant to be 'Excaliber' the sword of myths and in the OG script for it, it was 'Excaliber' hence the 'worthy' aspect of the sword being given to Mack, however one of the members of the cast said 'Excelsior' when doing a script reading, and they opted to use that instead. That's all it is, it's not a call back, merely a happy accident
@@IamDoomCrow That maybe how in got into the script but they chose to use it. Because someone involved new the history involved and thought that it would be something for the people that knew and ones that would go and find out.
6:00 Last time I checked, Sky’s actor was either contacted for the cameo but declined because he was unavailable or they were unable to contact him in time. Something along those lines
I think it was conflicting work schedules. The actor who played Sky was in the movie "Diary of the Dead" which premiered later in the year that the Once a Ranger crossover happened.
I always thought that Bridge being the Red SPD ranger was a way to continue the story and in my headcanon, Sky took over for Kruger which left the Red ranger spot open.
According to the internet. Matt was not originally going to be in Once A Ranger, as Brandon Jay McLaren, who plays Jack Landors, was offered to reprise his role. However, due to a break-up with Dino Thunder's Emma Lahana (who he had dated in real life), McLaren turned down the offer when told she would also be reprising her role, plus Chris Violette who plays Sky Tate was unavailable at the time, and the storyline was altered to have Bridge become the new S.P.D. Red Ranger
I haven't watched the show since Time Force but I do my best to catch the crossover episodes with the non disney teams. Forever Red was cool, never understood why they didnt bring Rocky back as the Red Ninja ranger or even try to explain how Jason could used the Tyrannosaurus dino coin. So when this episode explained how the Mastodon coin was repaired by Sentinel Knight i was happy, plus I loved how they updated Adam's morph sequence.
Ngl Operation Overdrive isn't my favorite season but also i didn't think the season why bad. Also Will was one of my favorite rangers when i was little lol
This episode, or episodes actually adapt episodes from Boukenger. Specifically the one where Chief Akashi used Zubaan to attack a giant robot. I don’t know how they managed to make a filler episode from the Japanese show a 15th anniversary special for operation overdrive. Also, I really wish they would’ve used the triple transforming megazord.
I just watched it as some one born the year the neo Saban era started and honestly after watching the episode I have never been happier. I have Never felt such joy in my life
@Este So, this theory/video idea revolves around Thrax and how he was a grown man by the time he appeared in Power Rangers-OverDrive. So, in the 2007 Power Ranger Super Legends videogame, a purified, human Zedd is living and working as an archeologist. He finds magic “time crystals” that let him view past and future events. He cannot help but be curious about his past, so he uses the crystals to take a look. Upon looking at his past, the power of evil Lord Zedd corrupts him again, and he regains all his powers. He becomes Galatic Overlord Zedd and he then uses the time crystals and his powers to target ranger teams through time. I think Zedd used the crystals to travel to a point in the past before Rita was sealed in the dumpster by Zordon and they conceived Thrax. Thrax then grew up in the past and was defeated and sealed away by the Sentinel Knight. The Sentinel Knight, by his own accounts, was inactive for a few hundred years after hiding the Corona Aurora on Earth, so Thrax must have been sealed away before that. If there weren't any time travel shenanigans then at most Thrax should have been 12 by the time he appeared in OverDrive, meaning he would have been imprisoned as an innocent infant.
I liked this crossover too. It was a good one. Bridge's powers didn't cuz he never lost them. Also he was promoted to red, cuz in SPD the colors were treated like ranks. Keep up the good work.
I was like 12 when this came out so I was sooo excited to see all these cool ass Rangers from the past. And i stan Adam/JYB. Like you said, it crossed off all the checkmarks for a team up. The ONLY thing I would want to change about it is 1 more Ranger. Maybe the Lunar wolf since that was the original transition season, silver ranger team up, and the fact that I just love the suit
I still find the two-parter to just not be enjoyable. The lack of previous rangers until the last 5 minutes of the first part, the fact that they couldn't use the MMPR theme for it, the Overdrive rangers quitting just because their powers aren't currently available to them, Mack running and jumping up to a giant monster and chopping it in half without the need of a megazord, all of that really threw me off. I watched these episodes when they first came out and kept them on DVR for re-watching and every time I'd just see more and more wrong with them. At least the fight scene at the end isn't some motorcycle-filled slugfest like the Ninja Storm/Dino Thunder team up fight was.
Personally, I felt like the Overdrive Rangers quitting made 100% sense from a human standpoint, being powerless even with civilian powers is one thing, but to then be replaced with a team of actual legends could really have done something to the ego of the Rangers. I would’ve given up too 😭 I just think that in comparison to other team ups, especially more recent ones, that this episode did most things right and people are just hyper focusing on the negatives.
I mean the OD rangers gave up because they lost their powers, then they still tried to fight and got their asses kicked, and not only that but they are being replaced with litteral legends, that's a lot of damage.
I guess I never saw it as being "replaced" because they explicitly say that they're only there until the Overdrive rangers get their powers back, which they should be doing everything they can to assist in doing so before the allied villains get their hands on the Corona Aurora. Maybe I'm still looking at the altruistic nature of the original few sets of rangers who would do anything to help out their fellow ranger and mankind in general, it just makes the Overdrive rangers feel inferior to the others, but I understand that point of view. Though I will give this episode it's fair due. Adam's experience as a voice actor REALLY shined through, especially during the fight scenes. After all, it's literally like dubbing a character from an anime, without the restriction of matching lip flaps. Not to mention that fight scene needs some much-deserved credit, using the theme songs for the fight was a great touch, the weapon swapping between Mack and Bridge, keeping the SPD theme running through Tyzonn's portion of the battle, that was at least a very satisfying end to a team-up I'd still consider less eventful than something like a Forever Red or a To the Tenth Power.
I loved this crossover. I was filled with joy when I saw S.P.D. and Mystic Force once again. They were my favorite shows. I’m still bumped out that they didn’t have a crossover. I would’ve loved to see Magic vs. Technology.
Once A Ranger, Always A Ranger! It was an amazing episode(s) for me too. Operation Overdrive was a great season. I wish Wild Force/In Space Silver joined in
I think the reason nobody talks about this is because it was during one of the most disliked seasons of Power Rangers ever (at least up to that point) and easily the worst of the Disney era of Rangers, which IMO is actually the best era Power Rangers has had quality wise. My issues with it stem from the Overdrive Rangers. All the retro Ranger stuff is great, even with the weirdness of acting like Alpha 6 was Alpha 5. But the Overdrive Rangers quitting does bug me. The Turbo Rangers when they lost their powers decided "Screw it, we'll follow Divatox to space anyway even without our powers." I just feel like the Overdrive Rangers gave up a little too quickly for me
After the disappointment that was Legendary Battle, Once a Ranger definitely ranks higher in my book. I just wish the Overdrive Rangers interacted with the retro Rangers more instead of giving up so easily. They still could’ve contributed even without their powers, they could’ve fought the chillers, helped get civilians to safety while the retros fought, or try to find Thrax’s weaknesses or try and find a way to fix their connections to the morphing grid. A season or comic with just the retro’s would also be an interesting idea. In terms of anniversary crossovers, I prefer Forever Red the most. In terms of regular crossovers, Reinforcements From the Future is the best. Yes, I know they’re both from Wild Force, but they both did a great job in terms of character development, foreshadowing future events, story and acting. In both cases, there’s plenty of morphed fights/unmorphed fights, and moments where the newbies and returnees, kick back and get to know each other, that’s what a good crossover does
Although I prefer this episode over others, No Hangout with the retro rangers but 5 minutes but what overdrive could of done is take out The Soliders with civilian Powers & if monsters showed up then Retro Rangers would Morph. Warehouse could of been explain (Bridge what are you Doing). & You Should see Jonny Young Bosch Proposal for this episode
It's my favorite crossover episode. The way that a team was put together for a couple episodes from previous ( and future ) rangers was cool. I would have chosen a different spd ranger and a different mystic force ranger, but overall it was good. I was surprised that no previous (or future) 6th ranger was brought in for the episodes. I also liked how even though Adam is the black ranger, he was basically the leader of the retro rangers.
I enjoyed this episode. The Retro Rangers idea was cool. Adam made an awesome leader. Thrax came off as genuinely threatening, kinda of a creepy looking character. As much of a bad reputation Overdrive gets I'd rather watch it instead of Super Megaforce.
The reason why aka red is not in power Rangers is because it needs a 30th anniversary and he will appear it better be kyuranger or zyuohger and it better be filmed in Los Angeles again
I liked what they did for the crossover I just wish they had a past sixth ranger and and Thrax should have been the last/main villain for Operation Overdrive
Once a Ranger netflix series please. Like do you know how could that could be? You could even use Solar Rangers designs and go from there. Going from universe to universe fixing things wrong with the morphin grids.
Este, I'm interested to know if you might have a theory as to the Rangers' strategy in combining their zords together for kaiju fights rather than keeping their zords separate to surround and attack an enemy and be separate targets? You know, other than the fact that it's hella cool to see them combined together and it being part of the reason we the audience tuned in to watch Power Rangers?
Finally someone else recognizes the greatness of Once A Ranger. It’s the best crosssover/teamup in all of PR. Mega battle or whatever it was called was the worst.
Off topic though, anyone else but me think it would’ve made more sense to do the Dino crossover with Dino fury instead of beast morphers? Just imagine all the past Dino Rangers teaming up with Dino fury for an all out Dino team.
THANK YOU! Never really understood why this episode gets all the hate IMO it’s the best crossover. The idea of a legacy team of Rangers was always just so cool to me, like this felt like more than just a team up, they formed a legit team! It was a nice number of returning characters so that they could all get a focus, and yeah like you said the 2 parter definitely helped! All the references to the Zordon era with Alpha and Angel Grove, the villains and especially Adam, who was always my favourite of the Zoe don era, maybe even more so than Tommy dare I say😂 and Adam’s modern Mighty Morphin Morph sequence was amazing to get to see! I loved all the attention to details, with yeah them briefly explaining where everyone was, but they acknowledged previous crossovers by having Kira be familiar with both Tori and Bridge, as well as her knowing that Tommy or Dr O is friends with Adam. I mean I get that the Overdrive Rangers giving up so easily is the weaker part of the episode, but I’d argue it works in the story and like you said it made sense, plus the rest of the episode is so good that I don’t personally mind it that much, the focus here was on the return of the legacy Rangers, as it should be. I’m not a fan of how the more modern crossovers big up a characters return only to have them with their masks off for 5 minutes with a single line from each of them. This episode is how to bring back returning Rangers correctly! 😀 Another great video dude!
No once a ranger is a huge sloppy mess with the only good thing about it is the fact that the other returning rangers are still in charachter and far FAR more likeable than the overdrive team.
Pretty sure Excelsior is just a reference to the legendary sword of King Arthur, from the old Knights of the Round Table tales. Being a season all about historical artifacts, it makes sense. Also, I never got the vibe that the Overdrive Rangers "gave up" in this episode. They kept trying to fight with their civilian powers, but it was clear it wasn't enough. They only left after it was clear they'd been replaced and there was nothing expected of them anymore.
Thrax birth or well mention.was only in the 3 parter of Mighry morphin power rangers season 2 the return of the green ranger. Only time lord zedd talks about extending the family with a child.
I always liked Once A Ranger special it was nice to Adam & alpha 5 back along with past Disney Power Rangers color for a retro team. Downside of the episode Disney should have use a better villian from Power Rangers history
I was under the impression that this episode was generally well-liked by fans. I know Linkara doesn't like it (and I understand his reasons), but I remember back then seeing a lot of fans on UA-cam uploading their own "Once a Ranger" teams (just splicing together the morphing sequences of 5-6 rangers they like). I figured that meant most fans liked it. It's not my favorite, but I enjoy it and I like the world-building it does.
If you don't mind I have a Dino Thunder theory for you. If you want to you could possibly make a video on it. So in Power Rangers Dino Thunder in episode "Thunder Storm Pt.2" when Mesogog fought Lothor, Mesogog trapped him in a container, but on the last episode of Dino Thunder, They basically destroyed each other's base. So could Lother escaped the container and possibly left in time of the explosion and just been lurking or spying on the Dino and Ninja Rangers probably planning his next attack.
100%!!! The crossover I grew up with. Though I feel that the lineup of Retro Rangers should've been the ones from Boukenger vs. Super Sentai (minus AkaRed).
6:30 they can still fight along side with the veteran rangers. In fact they can pretty much deal with the footsoldiers with their civilian powers while the veteran rangers are dealing with Thrax and the other factions of villains.

I never hated this special, I just wished they had moments for everyone
You expecting much from Power Rangers Operation Overdrive?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@xgray2012 chill it’s not that bad of a season
Saaaaaame
6:00 Last time I checked, Sky’s actor was either contacted for the cameo but declined because he was unavailable or they were unable to contact him in time. Something along those lines
I think it was conflicting work schedules. The actor who played Sky was in the movie "Diary of the Dead" which premiered later in the year that the Once a Ranger crossover happened.
Once a ranger had a couple of problems but it was more of an anniversary team up episode then legendary battle as it did a way better job
I always thought that Bridge being the Red SPD ranger was a way to continue the story and in my headcanon, Sky took over for Kruger which left the Red ranger spot open.
Which is ironic because the Soul of The Dragon comic expanded upon it to some degree. Sky becoming the Dekaranger for example.
@@jonathancraddock1810 Really? I should get around to reading that. I’ve heard good things about it but haven’t had any time to. Thanks
In the episode Bridge does state that Birdie retired and Kruger was promoted to head of all of SPD and Skye took over as head of SPD Earth Branch.
According to the internet. Matt was not originally going to be in Once A Ranger, as Brandon Jay McLaren, who plays Jack Landors, was offered to reprise his role. However, due to a break-up with Dino Thunder's Emma Lahana
(who he had dated in real life), McLaren turned down the offer when told she would also be reprising her role, plus Chris Violette who plays Sky Tate was unavailable at the time, and the storyline was altered to have Bridge become the new S.P.D. Red Ranger
Having Kyra back was simply amazing
She’s by far my favorite ranger alongside Taylor
Actually, we need a separate season in which Rangers from different seasons make a team like super sentai strongest battle.
I have Never felt such joy in my life
This crossover got me back into Power Rangers. I 100% need hasbro to make a lightning collection 5 pack go with my Psycho Rangers 5 pack.
Adam might be the only Ranger from MMPR besides Tommy to get his own theme song.
Top 3 Power Rangers crossovers:
1.) Forever Red
2.) Once a Ranger
3.) Shattered Grid
On my opinion: Once A Ranger is the best episode ever in my life. 😤
What are you opinions guys?
all fax!
Replace best with worst and you have it.
@@rambofan334agreed
Wild Force's forever red will always be the best team up
Both crossovers were lit. Does that settle it?
Mack was such a good red ranger for a lot of reasons
This is my second favorite crossover and I absolutely love that Adam was brought back
This is my favorite crossover episode.
It's the best crossover episode.
NUFF SAID.
I loved Operation Overdrive & Once A Ranger.
me2
@@hiEste Then why were you too harsh on Operation Overdrive?! Just like all the rest?!
Technology.
SPD and MF is where Disney PR peaked IMO
I definitely think this is slept on. I saw this years after it aired and was in love
Once A Ranger, Always A Ranger!
It was an amazing episode(s) for me too. Operation Overdrive was a great season. I wish Wild Force/In Space Silver joined in
Dude, that's exactly how I felt about this episode. I know it is all worth it when Adam came back.
The Turbo Rangers when they lost their powers decided "Screw it, we'll follow Divatox to space anyway even without our powers." I just feel like the Overdrive Rangers gave up a little too quickly for me
I have the scripts for both episodes in my Sentinel Knight collection :) my favourite team up episode
so cool!
In both cases, there’s plenty of morphed fights/unmorphed fights, and moments where the newbies and returnees, kick back and get to know each other, that’s what a good crossover does
It always make me feel great knowing the amount of knowledge you have despite being much younger than me!
Este. You’re the greatest to make these reviews and power rangers documentaries haha! I’m a fan
check out Linkara’s review of these two episodes in history of Power Rangers operation overdrive, he brings up some really valid points.
Good point actually. You hear that, Linkara?
And bridge is one of my absolute favorite rangers
Me too. He's really funny and entertaining to watch.
I like this crossover. It was need seeing rangers from different teams forming they're own team.
Listen, 3 of my favorite teams are in this episode, so I've got a bias.
Same here.
It’s underrated cause it’s from operation overdrive the most forgettable season
That's perfect yet super awesome for Tori the blue Ranger and Kira the perfect yellow Ranger! Thanks for the Power Ranger Girls!
💙💙💙👱⚡💛💛💛👩
I enjoyed this episode. The Retro Rangers idea was cool. Adam made an awesome leader. Thrax came off as genuinely threatening, kinda of a creepy looking character. As much of a bad reputation Overdrive gets I'd rather watch it instead of Super Megaforce.
Once a Ranger is the second best Power Rangers crossover behind Forever Red
The reason why aka red is not in power Rangers is because it needs a 30th anniversary and he will appear it better be kyuranger or zyuohger and it better be filmed in Los Angeles again
This is definitely nostalgic to me but I prefer forever red I do agree with the piggy in mystic force statement though
I liked what they did for the crossover I just wish they had a past sixth ranger and and Thrax should have been the last/main villain for Operation Overdrive
Once a Ranger netflix series please. Like do you know how could that could be? You could even use Solar Rangers designs and go from there. Going from universe to universe fixing things wrong with the morphin grids.
i need dat...
Thank you. It is also my favourite too and most underrated. Support from you can make this crossover more popular.
I loved this episode Bridge and Xander was my fav but if chuck and bridget was working together that a different story
Mine is Kira Ford.
Once a ranger is actually the best because it was the first one to that do what the Sentai did bring back multiple teams for a anniversary season
Once a ranger was good making Adam a legend.
Once a Ranger was 15 years ago omg I feel so old
Finally someone else recognizes the greatness of Once A Ranger. It’s the best crosssover/teamup in all of PR. Mega battle or whatever it was called was the worst.
The legendary battle? Yeah, that one was terrible.
Overdrive is actually fun to watch.
Off topic though, anyone else but me think it would’ve made more sense to do the Dino crossover with Dino fury instead of beast morphers? Just imagine all the past Dino Rangers teaming up with Dino fury for an all out Dino team.
My brother also loves zandar because it’s his favorite show
Another great video dude!
I actually really loved this crossover. Forever red of course is my no. 1 favorite team up but this one has a special place in my heart.
No once a ranger is a huge sloppy mess with the only good thing about it is the fact that the other returning rangers are still in charachter and far FAR more likeable than the overdrive team.
Agreed! It was absolute trash!
This happens to be one of the only overdrive episodes that I've seen
I like when power Rangers dino thunder and ninja storm how the Rangers were bad
This was my fave power rangers cross over outside of Shattered Grid.
I loveTrakeenas Revenge, that probably my favorite
Mine 2
What i love on this episode
Is bridge explaining what happen to the other spg red rangers, from retirement to promotion
3 OTHER RANGERS I WOULD BROUGHT BACK: TOMMY AS WHITE RANGER, KARONE FROM POWER RANGERS LOST GALAXY, AND RYAN FROM LIGHTSPEED RESCUE!
The 2 ep team up on SPD fight also very cool as once a ranger
You love power rangers, I love power rangers, your name is Estevan my name is Esteban
One of the best power ranger youtubers
Thrax birth or well mention.was only in the 3 parter of Mighry morphin power rangers season 2 the return of the green ranger.
Only time lord zedd talks about extending the family with a child.
I grew up with Once a Ranger and to this day this crossover is the best in my opinion.
I think the disney era was really good
When sky took over for cruger as Commander, Bridge was promoted to red ranger. I think in one of the comics they explain it.
Also I like once a ranger more than forever red, the terrible CGI Serpent Terra pissed me off.
Once a ranger was better than legendary battle
I always liked Once A Ranger special it was nice to Adam & alpha 5 back along with past Disney Power Rangers color for a retro team. Downside of the episode Disney should have use a better villian from Power Rangers history
For every Power Rangers fans out there Once a Ranger was way better than Super Megaforce Legendary Battle in 2013
@@MikeFisher672014
The name Sentinel Knight reminds me of Sentinel Prime from Transformers!!!
Shattered grid make one on it
I loved that episode it was amazing.
This was much better than tommydimension
This teamup it was about everyone everybody had role
THIS WAS SO UNDERRATED!
"As he should. As he should... because of his martial arts ability?!" Noooooo. because he's Rita and Zedd's kid.
100%!!! The crossover I grew up with. Though I feel that the lineup of Retro Rangers should've been the ones from Boukenger vs. Super Sentai (minus AkaRed).
It was close
