    I have been there at all seasons and I have a grandmother buried in the cemetery next door, no matter what the season sleepy hollow is a beauty and your cottage in that location will be stunning with every season, brings renewal and refreshment, always cling to God and each other, and live a life that will be an example to all that touch your lives, your channel spreads that message. @@itsacharminglife the town relies on the spooky aspects of the poem and Washington Irving the town very need and tidy and on and off my black mare is used for the headless horsemans horse and she does well, I trained her from a foal. And there is no place like it, a lot of channels do videos and that is fine but they focus on the spooky and not the real sleepy hollow and the charm it holds.

    It's encouraging to see someone shares the struggle of getting rid of things. I love that you mentioned that sometimes you have to let go of things to let them bring joy to someone else...I've never thought of it that way... that really hit home. Tyfs this..I think it will make decluttering a little easier.

    It feels so refreshing to see someone who is not a ruthless declutterer 😂. There are so many minimalism videos out there…. But I like my stuff. I love my overcrowded knicknacky bookshelves and my mix matched mugs and having decor for every season and holiday. I have two small children and it’s so much fun to get out the valentines hearts and Easter decorations with them every year. I very much resonated with you in this video.

    • @itsacharminglife
      @itsacharminglife  2 роки тому +1

      That sounds so fun to open the decor boxes with your kids 🎁 I've had my share of being ruthless before we lived in the cottage. I was definitely more of a minimalist not really by choice but just because moving across the world twice will do that to you LOL so living at the cottage has given me the first time chance to enjoy more of my knick knacks but it's still a struggle in a small space ✨ but I'm grateful for both seasons of having more and having less it's giving me a very balanced view of my possessions ✨

    To save space, I put the previous season's decor into the bin/bag where the new season's decor is stored and about to be put up. It also helps me decide what I want to put up again (the decor that's put up last is usually my least favourite, so it confirms that maybe I can live without it). 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I have decided that I will just use and enjoy the things that bring me the most joy no matter what season they may represent.. For many years I collected strawberry items.. over 20 plus years.. Then one day we moved and it was time to refresh and let go of most of them.. I LOVE pumpkins.. So even in the spring/summer months I display many pumpkin items but also tuck in wild sprigs of spring vines, mini sunflowers or black-eyed Susan's etc.. I love your pumpkin items and that your sweetie suggested they be put in the kitchen, I so enjoy your lovely channel.. Have a blessed day..

    It is hard but where there is a will there is a way! Flat papers and postcards can be put in between pages of a book and/or stored under a dresser. Linens can be spread flat and put under chair cushions or a mattress. Also could put small things in the pockets of any hanging garments or wrapped in scarves or hats when stored out of season. If you have luggage you can store things in there. You will always find room for the precious things that bring you joy❤️

    I love the music! " Big Bad Voodoo Daddy " is my favorite swing music.
    I do the same every season, it's hard to part with things that have a lovely memory attached to them. When I shop, I try not to buy on impulse, sometimes I'm successful and sometimes not! It's a process and the more you try, the easier it is to let things go.

    You have a very good system. I so understand your challenge! We live in a 650 sq foot apartment and storage is definitely lacking. I've kind of done the same thing. I have 1 bin for Christmas, 1 bin for Fall and a small tote bag for Easter. I personally love it! Because I stay more focused on enjoying the "everyday treasures". The Seasonal decor is very minimal. I wasn't always that way, but since the kids are grown and out of the house, now I just do "touches of the Seasons". I do keep some of the bulkier items up all year. 🙊. )Such as our Christmas tree is up all year in our bedroom. ) But nobody sees it except for us. Lol 😂. Anyways, great tips! Enjoy your weekend 💖💐

    Being a former window decorator at Macy's Herald Square (Trained in the arts at Parsons School of Design)
    now a wedding designer and planner, I certainly have accumulated a collectipn of Art & Design tools, etc., I've had to get very creative with storage; plastic bins. Packed full and stacked under a table covered by a long tablecloth. Roll out storage bins under the beds, Rubbermaid bins stacked against a wall, and a bench measured and built right over the top with added cushions.
    Bookshelf that surround go above doors, containing pretty baskets
    There ARE ways...maybe a temporary outdoor arrangement for items that are not affected by temperatures and possible moisture exposure. A "Child's playhouse" that can be moved with you when you purchase your bery own home !

    Love Lindsey how you and Jonas take great thought and love in your cottage. All my life * since being married * We have been the same way and want it to be truly a home, and reflect the love we have for living there..
    Thank you for sharing how to pack things and that is a problem I do have. We have been married 53 yrs and I can remember everyone who gave us any item at all so it means so much. But certainly items should be placed away o be used at a certain season and not shown all the time. Storage used to be in large containers and placed in cellar or attics. But as you get older you truly want to downsize and you do need to not hold on to so much.
    Yu both are very young ye and do not have that problem, of course, but by living as you do and learning to have the items you love most and not o er cluttering, you will be better off once that time does come.

    We've been there! With wedding items, time takes its toll on them. So I took photos of things it was hard to let go of, then it was easier to let go. They were documented in a new way that wouldn't age. With linens and cute hand towels, they multiply, and our taste changes. So asking myself which one will I be most excited to see next year helped me thin them out. Blessings to you!

    Oh, you have Cottage Fairy art work! I love her stuff though I haven't got any yet.
    I see how anxiety producing it is for you to do that job. You and Jonas manage it well with good discipline. I have decorations for every season too. Some is kept in our attic. Christmas takes up the most "real-estate " with two big bins and one about a quarter of their size. The next is fall decor in one medium size bin. All the others: Valentine's, St. Patrick's day and Easter are each kept in oversize zip lock bags. General spring and summer are mostly fake flowers that are also kept in the zip lock bags . I store all of these in one box. Then, there are other items, candles, dishes and figurines, I keep in two drawers in my "breakfront". I decided years ago that prefer to make my flat decoration from fabric and wood cut outs rather than the paper ones you buy. I use seasonal wooden cut-outs and fabrics or seasonal colors ~sew, crochet and paint. They're really cute and store away easy . I have several different wreaths that I keep hanging on our porch( which is a second story and used mostly for storage). The wreaths are recycled for the seasons and holidays. This was fun ...and I can't wait to see when, what, where and how you get into a bigger home! ~ Heather ~

    You're so cute, Lindsay! 😊 And less is good, even in decor...which you do great with I think! 🐢 I'm like you...always moving pieces around putting them in different settings. I love the new looks with favorite treasures. Baskets are my favorite to stow away items and to hold books and crafty projects. I usually give items away at the seasons they pertain in, and I noticed on our Buy Nothing Group page so many looking for Christmas items this year. And love Paola, The Cottage Fairy...recognized those flower prints.🌷When you declutter items, do you thrift them at a favorite shop or give to family and friends? I've been passing items around to family and to many of my "adopted" daughters! 😊 We have some adorable vintage shops you would adore in Lexington, KY. 🙂
    Happy Spring to Jonas and you! 🍀💚🍀

      That's so true. Yrs ago I was at a friends gift shop and a lady came in and said she thought maybe she was ready to let some of her moms things go. She turned to me and said mom passed last yr, I said mine did yrs ago, I away gave things that would otherwise sit in a box than in someones home. She turned back and said I'm ready to let it all go. Have a wonderful week ahead =^)

    This was very helpful. I live in a 700 sq.ft. house and have always had trouble consolidating my items. I'm not good at organizing and not good at parting with things. I seem to be very sentimental. It does help to think about how much the next person will enjoy a certain item. I'm overwhelmed easily with the amount of stuff I need to go through. I'll just have to do a several sq. foot area each day. A little is better than doing nothing. Thank you for this video.

      I totally understand I'm glad this could help a little bit for some motivation. The longer we've lived at the cottage the more sentimental I found myself becoming but after remind myself how wonderful it feels to pass things on to others and that sentimentality goes along with it ✨

    I really enjoyed the more informal format! You guys have such a great style, and such a lovely collection of cute things! I used to really like making little decorative displays, and had some cute things. But, I went through some rough times in my life and I used a very utilitarian style of minimalism as a coping mechanism, so unfortunately I got rid of so many cute things that I liked!

    • @itsacharminglife
      @itsacharminglife  2 роки тому +1

      Oh I hear you on that, there's been a few times in our moving periods of life where we got rid of things very ruthlessly. And sometimes I regret it a little bit but same time it was the thing that felt right to do at the time, so I don't think it was a mistake in the long run.

    Have you ever considered building or finding on Marketplace a small shed to have a little more place? Also, why not enjoy the Christmas lights all year long. :) I get the Christmas boxes overflowing. I got rid of 2 very decent sizes boxes of decorations before Christmas and I still need to get rid of more, especially since I hardly decorate. Yes, an oxymoron but my vintage ornaments are so pretty. :)

    • @itsacharminglife

    Lindsay is there anyway that you could get a little larger crates and just put all your Christmas things in one crate I know I have the same trouble you just look a little anxious like I said maybe you should get a little larger crates and put things in that I am feeling for you I seem to collect more and more each year just take your time.

    • @itsacharminglife
      @itsacharminglife  2 роки тому

      Thanks for your concern, but we would have nowhere to put a larger crate. Everything has to fit in the boxes because they're that's the only way it'll fit up into the "attic" and it's best this way in the end to not accumulate more than we need for now 👍

    If I can suggest, don't declutter too much... i did it because I thought it was important... And then my loved one died... And now I value only what his eyes saw... i don't want to buy new things... Things that matter are only the ones we used and enjoyed together... Kisses from heart
