*As always, thank you for your support and thank you to all the employees of the NYCT*
As someone who grew up on the Brooklyn end of the 2/5 trains, I didn’t really go to the other terminus of the 5 at Dyre Ave. This video was amazing on so many levels, here were some of the highlights for me.
For starters, the tunnel section between Beverly Rd and President Street still looks the same as it did 20+ years ago when I used to ride the 2/5 train with my dad to visit his late friend. He’d let me stand in front of him by the railfan window on the Redbirds. To be honest, I’m sure that the Redbirds on the 2/5 are the reason that I fell in love in love with the NYC subway, and trains to begin with.
Past that, this train operator handled the Rogers Junction like a PRO. Those crossovers were almost CBTC-level! I was least fascinated by Rogers Junction, and how the different trains connected across different levels.
Even though the train transferred to the local track after Atlantic Ave and had to go up the west side of Manhattan, this video highlights one of the things that I love about the NYC Subway. Redundancy.
There’s so much redundancy in place, that even if there’s an issue, riders still have at least one option to get to their destination. Oftentimes it’s more like two or more options; even if one of those options involves transferring to or taking a bus. There’s so much that many other cities can learn from the NYC subway system.
When it turned away at Borough Hall, the 4 and 5 train exchanged their goodbyes 😂. The section up the west side was pretty quick, just like in the 2 train video, but great nonetheless. It’s almost funny how close Park Place and Chambers Street are.
I was a little bit disappointed that I didn’t get to see the 125th street complex from the uptown side, or the famous 149th street curve onto the White Plains Rd line. But, I’ve been here long enough to know that you guys won’t leave us hanging like that.
Yet again, thanks for unlocking a childhood memory of mine; and keep doing a GREAT service to the transit community! 🫡
It is truly an honor to know that this video has assisted you in unlocking that memory you shared during your childhood. Noticed how many commented on how disappointed they were when the highlight of the # 5 route was the curve the train takes into the 149th st station. The fact that the external placement of the camera would have captured that loud squeal would have delighted many.
Fair statement and we can't wait for those same fans to experience that area of this line. Thank you for sharing and sending you and your family positive energy.
This video would've been GOLDEN if the train went up the Lexington Ave line as it was suppose to, and yes we could've seen the famous curve coming into 149 St-Grand Concourse. But always something when it comes to the NYC Subway.
Overall, it's a good video without a doubt and I enjoyed the experience particularly on the Bronx express track segment. Hopefully the return trip to Flatbush Ave can be better.
Now, let's see the 6 line.👍
Thank you so much for sharing. Like stated, it wouldn’t be a true NYC Subway experience without a reroute; we’re glad that you were able to enjoy it and thank you so much for your suggestion. We will definitely take it into consideration. 🫡

Wow 🤩 thanks for the video and unfortunately it had to go on the 2 line . Brings me great memories 25 years ago I used to take the 5 train from freeman st to Fulton st back when I was younger took that line every day for 4 years . Used to be the red bird trains love those trains . Thank for the memories 😢😊
Thank you for sharing your brief memory of your relationship with the line; We imagine it was nostalgic remembering those days. The red birds may no longer be around but the system still continues to be the same intriguing and fascinating system you used to enjoy. 🫶🫡

Attention @Welcome to An Experience:
Please, please, please---re-do the 5 again without a re-route! This re-route was great---as is ALL YOUR GREAT VIDEOS. However, I was soooo looking forward to the northbound Lexington run going through the 125th St track complex and the 149th St jug handle!! Even if it is going to take a long time, please try to film this for us die-hard fans. Peace, my brother!
We appreciate you for your kind words and for your support. We understand, slightly, how disappointing it is that we didn't show the original line. We felt as though it wouldn't be a true NYC Subway experience without a unscheduled reroute so we hope that we can continue to earn your support and we can't wait for you to see the original version. Sending love to you and the family; thank you.
Love your videos and you brought back memories because I worked that line for 27 years and I hated those re routes because I much rather go up Lexington Ave as compared to 7th Ave.
Thank you so much for your service to NYC and it is an honor to bring you back to the line you have a history with. 💯🫡🏆
Its amazing to see all of the new housing developments on the 2/5 line. I remember when 180th st had the NYW&B trestle still up and you could see it from east tremont ave.

Thank you so much; that's truly a special accomplishment, to have ridden every line. Shoutout to you for your dedication and though this 5 was rerouted, you can now say you have, if your memory of it doesn't return.
Well! I did it 🙌🏾, I rode the 5 train to DYRE ave . Now I gotta work on driving to SI and ride their subway Trains 😅😅

sad that it is not the regular route, but still has the same charm as all of your videos do. Keep up the good work!
We appreciate you for your continued support.
This was a good trip despite the diversion along the 7th Avenue express route. I have been on some express trains where they had to use the local tracks because of construction, repairs, or a train breakdown along the way. Stuff happens, I get that. Next time around, I hope we get to go along the route on its regular trip under Lexington Avenue. Thanks for the ride! See you soon!
Thank you so much for this comment and for sharing that important information that folks would be able to appreciate. We look forward to showing you all that we have left to offer and we appreciate your support. 🫡 🫡
Have to admit and very happy to see the stations look a lot cleaner since I lived in NY
Another pleasant video, even with the detour. I rode this line to Gun Hill Road many years ago to go to Freedomland! I don't think I've ridden it since. The express running in the Bronx was a nice bonus. Hopefully you'll be able to re-do this run when the 5 is running where it's supposed to.
Thank you so much for sharing. We are pleased that you were able to appreciate it and we can’t wait for you to experience all that we have to offer.
Freedomland was at the last stop of the 6, Pelham Bay Park.

I can't wait
The video quality and station announcements are great. On many videos from other providers you never know where you are and often subways signs are not quite readable. The only drawback from watching at the level of (what appears to be) floor-level cameras is the occasional rats that seem to be ubiquitous but especially near subway trash-catcher cages. I usually fast forward from stops to avoid seeing them.
We are happy to know that you are able to appreciate the content despite having to fast forward, to avoid seeing the things you mentioned. We are excited to know that the system is continuing to do their part in making the system the cleanest, safest, fastest and most spectacular system in the world. We will give them the time to do so.
I did enjoy it and im grateful 🙏 but I wish it was on the Lexington Ave line and when it goes outside in the bronx it was daylight instead of nite, thank you 😊

Yes, as a New Yorker, and long time enthusiast of the NYC subways, I am very familiar with riding the subways from an early age, starting in the 1950s. I know these things do happen, a diversion becomes necessary for one thing or another. I can stiill hear the announcement, "Attention passengers, due to a condition ahead, this train will run along the Seventh Avenue line. We are sorry for the inconvenience." However, please do a re-do of this line in it's true operating status!! No doubt, despite the diversion, it's still an enjoyable video!! But as the consensus of us NYC subway fans show, a redo is absolutely necessary! OK fans all shout together: RE-DO!! RE-DO!! Re-DO!!! In any case, I'm still impressed by the design of the NYC sbway: the concept of local/express service. To my knowledge, no other subway system incorporates this then innovation that the early engineers/designers had planned and implemented. As this train bypasses local stops on the express tracks, I continue to marvel at this concept. If there are systems anywhere in the world using this concept, please inform me.
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. We truly appreciate you acknowledging our work and we cannot wait for you to see what else we have in store. It is an honor to aid in bringing back the memories you shared in the 1950's and we agree with you as to how spectacular this system truly is. To know that it was built so impressively and to last for centuries, it is also our opinion that is has to be one of the most intriguing system in the world, if not the most complex; like you stated, we stand corrected should there be any other system that shares the same genius. Again, thank you for your comment and we appreciate you for your support.
Curious as to what happened on the Lex that caused the rerouting.
It would have definitely been interesting to know the full details, outside of the announcement made by the conductor while at Nevins St (let us know if you hear it)

Thank you so much and thank you for your suggestion; we can;t wait for you to experience all that we have to offer.
The Drye feels almost suburban given how spread out the stations are, as well as how you can barely see any buildings from the tracks.
Great observation; It is quite different from other lines in this aspect for sure
I have ridden the 2 and 5 lines most of my life. I have seen service changes on both lines going back 55 plus years. Yet, there still the need of improvement on the 5 line especially north of East 180 Street with the less frequent service (20 minute headways) when there’s planned work along Lexington Avenue on weekends.
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. We imagine the system will do their part to help improve this issue and avoid such unfortunate events moving forward.
@@wtaenyc I've complained to the MTA for many years about the 20 minutes headways on the 5 line. To me, they just don't seem to care when it comes to better service in the Bronx especially the 5 line.
Love the video, but I wanted to see the train run up Lexington Ave.
Thank you so much. We apologize that you didn't get to see the Lex ave area as yet but we can't for you to experience it.
At the end East 180th Street there's a switch track there if there's an uptown 5 and 2 train in the station one of the train need to go first becauseIf they all went in the same time they will crash into each other so that's why one of them needs to go first so they don't crash
Great observation and we appreciate you for sharing your knowledge of the design. It is information not a lot know and it helps folks understand why trains are delayed longer than usual at times, during these moves.
1:13:58, 1:14:04, 1:14:08, 1:18:16, 1:20:23, 1:22:11, 1:23:18, and so many other instances I didn't timestamp:
To the right of the track, catenary bridge concrete base with some steel from the catenary bridge itself still on top of the concrete! IIRC it was in the early 40s, after the NYW&B north of the Bronx/Westchester County line began demolition, that the catenary bridges were removed.

I used to ride this train frequently back in the day. There never used to be one shot signals between Franklin and Atlantic. It was all green. The signals between Park Place and Chambers used to be two shot. The 5 used to run faster than this. Bouncing and swaying and it was great. I bet this is because of the Union Square wreck. Either pull the hammer back or get nailed with a penalty application and a bawling out from the tower. Sheesh
Thanks for sharing the memories and sharing how much things have changed as it relates to the signals etc. What are some of the things you noticed that impressed you the most?
@@wtaenyc Due to the camera placement, I can clearly see the unused switches, areas that have been hard railed, and the use of CWR versus the jointed rail from back in the day. Oh yeah, no more "bottles in the trunk." That's really impressive.
This rerouting was ironic, insofar as when the Dyre Avenue spur was connected to the IRT White Plains Road line in 1957, the first train assigned to terminate there was the 2 line. It and the 5 had their northern termini switched in 1965.
Also, if you can do a run of a 2 train via Lexington Avenue, with the correct announcements to the Bronx, that would be nice where it says Bronx bound 2 express train via Lexington Avenue
Thank you so much for this suggestion.
Those damn condenser fans are the best.
Pure genius.
If possible can you do a video with the metro north? Btw love your videos!
We appreciate you and we can't wait for you guys to see what else we have to offer in the future. We'll manifest it with you.
As a kid, it was always fun seeing peoples faces when a 2 appeared on the 5, or a 4 visiting up to Pelham Bay Park. Even seeing a 62 set on the 2 (like a few days ago) but I have to ask... what was the red sign coming into Gun Hill Road and Baychester? Is it a speed restriction to avoid the train "Skidding" on those leaves when its Fall or Winter? Oh and, awesome video! It was fun seeing a re route.
Thank you so much for your compliment. Great observation as it relates to the red signal around the Gun Hill area and your reasoning for it may be true but we will see if any other rail fans can second your theory.
What’s with the timer coming into a perfect straight away at Gun Hill Road? It wasn’t like this before they redid the station…
Great question and observation.

@@wtaenyc OK. : )
was the 7 av detour an accident in the video and intended to be lex service
The train was rerouted to 7av due to an unforeseen incident.
Was there any specific reason as to why the train operator went so fast?
Great question. “Rapid Transit,” is something that has been implemented into the operation of trains, by the system.
You should do all of the lines in nyc like the shuttles (6) etc.
Thank you so much for this suggestion.
How do you even put the camera on the front?

1:24:13 - 1:24:18 Isn't that bit to the right part of the original NYW&B Dyre Ave. station platform, or am I misremembering?
Great observation. You may not be misremembering at all and we shall see if there is anyone else that has a different memory from yours and is willing to share.
Looking at a video of the line from relatively early into its operation as part of the NYC subway system, it does look like I was correct / this IS part of the original Dyre Ave. station platform.
Did it skip bowling green station that day?
Great question and observation.
