I did to show my wife by video how the 5 connect from Lexington to IRT-2. Nice to see it in high definition since I used to travel these lines to/from work and going places. You also may be able to see the boxes, (don't know the name), the train operator has to press the bottom according to the line. This allow them to change track to their correct turns. Nice "5 Bronx Thru Express" run. Still no match for the speed of the 7 due to the timers at the Simpson and West Farms curves. Also in The Bronx was the great stretch between E. 180th and Morris Park. The track sounds over switches, around curves and going from ballast to structure and back again was epic!

Great video! Some of the most exciting times of my adolescent life was living up in Eastchester, riding the train just because. It’s hard explaining the importance of the subway for New Yorkers to southerners. Nevertheless, great memories, thanks for the video!❤
The overpass at the 149st Grand Concourse station was my favorite location for trainspotting during the 1970s. Especially seeing the 5 train as it rounds the curve before entering the station.
My home (#5 Dyre Avenue line) all my life along with the 2 line. The best part riding the 5 train is that it’s quicker and has less stops than the 2 train. What definitely needs improvement is the less frequency in service when you have the split rush hour service between Dyre/Nereid and the 20 minute wait times when the 4, 5, and 6 lines share tracks during construction on weekends.
One of my favorite IRT lines to ride as a kid railfanning when I was supposed to be in school though the motorman did kinda crawl throughout the route entirely too many timing signals 😂
Honored to know that the video was able to bring you back to those younger days and times. As it relates to the timing signals, looking forward to a system that is able to be safe and speedy at the same time 🏆🫡
Thank you is much for sharing that fun fact and we are glad you got to experience one of your favorite NYC Subway trains. What are some of your other favs?
Dont really ride trains anymore as I have a car now. But I do remember riding this everyday after school and after work a few years later. I know it's because there are a lot of curves but I always despised how slow the 5 express train is in the Bronx, especially after 174th street. As you see in the video, the 2 train that became visible as early as Intervale Av/Simpson St, still manages to catch up to the 5 train and even gets priority to leave first at East 180th. You really only save like 6 minutes riding the 5 express over the 2 local. I am a bus operator now out of Gun Hill depot and it would be cool to have a camera attached to my bus to show the world my journey on some routes lol.
Thank you so much for sharing this perspective. It is quite interesting how the 2 train is able to catch up to the express in this way. It is possible that this is already something that they are aware of and working on but either way, your comment brings awareness to it and we manifest things changing in the future. Thank you as well for your service to NYC and we’re honored to assist with bringing back those fond memories. 🏆🫡
This service is notorious for having three separate bottlenecks. In order in the northbound direction are below: -9:34 at Franklin Ave: The Nostrand Ave Line is a split from the local tracks so the 5 needs to cross over the local tracks to get to the express tracks which can delay 3 trains. -57:16 at 149th St: Although a full flying junction, the curve is extremely tight and 2 and 4 trains have to occasionally wait. -1:12:16 at E 180th St. This is only an issue for peak-direction express trains because the Dyre Ave Line only connects to the local tracks so like at Franklin Ave, express trains have to cross over the local tracks. Because of this, it might be better off if the 5 is eliminated and the Dyre Ave Line becomes a continuation of the Second Ave Line and then the Q or T can run there instead once it’s complete by extending it to the Bronx and linking to it. Plus, after 149th St’s elevators are complete, wheelchair users can transfer too. As for Franklin Ave, cross-platform transfers automatically eliminate any issues.
I love riding along , but what I find a problem with is when the stop has a long title that the print is extremely small making it difficult to read them. Otherwise great work, and wonderful to ride along😊
Thank you so much for bringing this challenge to our awareness and we will be more mindful of this moving forward. Maximum respect for the compliments as we’re honored you were still able to enjoy it. 🫡🏆
U do fantastic. Hope you make returns to the routes in the future like how Chicago does their full rides. You never know what you might expect in a full ride. They do updated versions at some point and many people who do runs number their runs such as #1 or #2 and so on. In this case, you would label this version as West Farms Express 1. Now the version you did on the 2 line that is not the peak direction local like it would be in the rush-hour. When you did the 2, that is when the 2 and 5 trains both run local in the Bronx so that it’s just a normal 2 train ride. If it was a peak direction local run on the 2 you would’ve done it during rush hour. Eventually, you will need to do the peak direction local run on the 2 during rush hour in both directions same with the 5, but you will also need to do the 5 during the midday at some point as well when it makes all stops in the Bronx.

Isn't it obvious three colleges of CUNY are only located in Brooklyn except for Kings borough Community College. : )
I always wonder why the announcements say "Transfer is available to the (4) or (5) train" at 138th Street-Grand Concourse, despite the fact that both trains stop at 125th Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse.

Welcome To An Experience, I give this train video to Eastchester Dyre Avenue a 20 out of 20! Can you try to do this video again, but when the 5 train makes local stops; from Jackson Avenue to East 180th Street?
Great question and observation. Maybe because most folks have made it to their destination whether it be work, school or tours but what would be your first guess?
My first guess would be because most passengers don't necessarily ride as much during night hours or it can be due to safety reasons I oftenly see people who board at union sq and then gets off at 86 st.

🫶🫡 How'd you like it?
love it!
One of my favorite IRT lines to ride as a kid railfanning when I was supposed to be in school though the motorman did kinda crawl throughout the route entirely too many timing signals 😂
Honored to know that the video was able to bring you back to those younger days and times. As it relates to the timing signals, looking forward to a system that is able to be safe and speedy at the same time 🏆🫡
@@wtaenycYesss I miss that
The 5 train is one of my favorite trains in the system.
Fun fact: The 5 train is in fact one of the busiest and most used trains in the entire system.
Thank you is much for sharing that fun fact and we are glad you got to experience one of your favorite NYC Subway trains. What are some of your other favs?
The 2 and 6 mainly because I live right near those lines.
I noticed looking at the track layout that it covers as much as the A Train. Surprised they havent put the r211s there yet.
My home subway line in the Bronx. If the 5 train is the most busiest and used line, then more service needs to be added on weekends and late nights!
The 2, 4, 5, and 7 are the busiest lines in the IRT Division
Yesssssss 🙌🏾! You got the 5 train on its normal route 😊😊😊😊. Thanks brother! Come back to do the J M and Z line 😊😊😊 that’s my line
Thank you so much and we appreciate you for your support; looking forward to you experiencing your home line. 🫡

Fantastic video!!
Thank you so much 🫡
Who else used to live on dyre ave but moved away so had to look at that train for old memories
why so specific

Nice catch 💯🫡
This service is notorious for having three separate bottlenecks. In order in the northbound direction are below:
-9:34 at Franklin Ave: The Nostrand Ave Line is a split from the local tracks so the 5 needs to cross over the local tracks to get to the express tracks which can delay 3 trains.

Finally I watched the full version of route 5, thanks! We are waiting a video back trip!

Wen I was lil we always took the red five to the bx from BK I miss the red line
Thanks for sharing. Glad this video is able to help bring back some of those memories 🫡🫡
This obviously is a PM Rush Hour run. During the midday, both trains stop at all stations.

OK this is much better now, thanks for sharing. BTW I wish it was the TOMC instead of a NTT' R142. 😢
Those types of equipment will surely be missed. Thank you for your support and 🥂 to the classics 🏆🫡
Hi I like your videos
Maximum respect to you.
Not sure what it is, I'm not from NY, not even American, but I find watching train videos like this a nice easy way to chill and relax. :)
🏆🫡
I love riding along , but what I find a problem with is when the stop has a long title that the print is extremely small making it difficult to read them. Otherwise great work, and wonderful to ride along😊
Thank you so much for bringing this challenge to our awareness and we will be more mindful of this moving forward. Maximum respect for the compliments as we’re honored you were still able to enjoy it. 🫡🏆
And thanks for waiting at the terminus for the train to depart and vacate the track.

Thank you for your high praise as it is truly appreciated. We'd also like to thank you for sharing your suggestions. We imagine like you have given us credit for the work we have done so far, you can also look forward to seeing all that we have in store for the channel; they may align with most of your suggestions. Is that a CBTC cable at Baychester Ave and the Drye Ave line looking drastically different than before 1:20:22
We imagine they are plans to bring CBTC to the line so maybe.
Did you know that Three of CUNY Colleges has their own Subway stations:
For Brooklyn College, Located at Flatbush Avenue.
For Medgar Evers College, Located at President Street and Franklin Avenue.
For New York City Tech College of Technology, Located at Jay Street - Borough Hall.
Isn't it obvious three colleges of CUNY are only located in Brooklyn except for Kings borough Community College. : )
Thank you so much for sharing. 🫡🫡🏆
No problem. It's the comment that counts as sharing. @@wtaenyc
I always wonder why the announcements say "Transfer is available to the (4) or (5) train" at 138th Street-Grand Concourse, despite the fact that both trains stop at 125th Street and 149th Street-Grand Concourse.
Great observation and interesting question. 🤔🫡
Good job as always you guys do a great work stay safe and looking forward to the rest of the lines terminal to terminal 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback and support; they are both greatly appreciated. we look forward to maintaining it as we share all that we have to offer. 🫡💯
finally ive been waiting for the 5 train lexington avenue Express but at least the front view is ok
What was your favorite part about the video?
@@wtaenyc The lexington avenue Express is better than taking the 7th Avenue Express
Can you do one in the opposite direction including the 149st curve.
Thanks for the suggestion ; looking forward to sharing all we have to offer. 🫶🫡
Welcome to the 5 train.
How'd you like it?
Nice video. I usually take the 4 or 5 when I go to the Bronx from Brooklyn cause its the fastest.
Thank you so much and thanks for sharing 🫡
Can you do the 5 Train to Flatbush Avenue, Crown Heights, Nereid Avenue, and Gun Hill Road? Because there are some 5 Trains that end at Crown Heights, Nereid Avenue and Gun Hill Road on the White Plains Line during rush hours.
Thank you so much for these suggestions. We will discuss this with the team and in the meantime, we look forward to sharing all that we have to offer 🏆🫡
i take that comment back. the first 15 minutes were blurry but the rest of the video was excellent
Thanks for sharing. This video took longer than expected to process and so, we imagine the entire video should be great quality at this time.

Forgot to add at Pelham Parkway, transfer to the Bx12 SBS.
Apologies for that and thank you for the observation. We’ll consider adding it for the return trip. How’d you like the video?
Excellent!@@wtaenycIf you do the return trip, here's some extra info. Transfers to Q44 SBS at West Farms Square East Tremont Ave, Bx6 SBS at Intervale Ave, Bx41 SBS at 3rd Ave-149th Street, M60 SBS to LGA at 125th Street, & M86 SBS at 86th Street.
39:03 - among the oldest Subway tunnels in New York city.
What year was it completed?
@@wtaenyc
I think 1904. This 4-5-6 including the loop at city hall, north to 42 Street, and 1-2-3 from 42 Street continuing north from there on Broadway, was the first Subway under the streets of New York city.
Welcome To An Experience, I give this train video to Eastchester Dyre Avenue a 20 out of 20! Can you try to do this video again, but when the 5 train makes local stops; from Jackson Avenue to East 180th Street?

Can you make a vid operating an R211 on the C line?

How did your camera not fall off the train??
Our engineering team found the safest and most secure way. 🏆

Why grand central gets crowded during AM & PM Rush hour but not as much during evening hours?
Great question and observation. Maybe because most folks have made it to their destination whether it be work, school or tours but what would be your first guess?
My first guess would be because most passengers don't necessarily ride as much during night hours or it can be due to safety reasons I oftenly see people who board at union sq and then gets off at 86 st.
Nice
