    Well done for allowing this old stuff to live.
    Original manufactures and parts suppliers should just give it up

    It's really a shame that people don't appreciate stuff like this, or the people who are able to do stuff themselves, who have the knowledge and skill to *truly* make stuff.

    Great video with simple instructions and no BS - thanks guys, this has taught me a lot.

    That is damned pretty for sand casting. Makes me want to build a crucible and start making little buzzy multi cylinder engines.

    while making the mold how do you adjust for the shrinking?

      3% is added to the mold

    Amazing work. Is there any place on the WWW where i can go and se some more of this project?

  • @АлександрПерчов-ж9у

    I really like your crucible caddy, have hurt my back in the past manually pouring castings...!

    Gear head nirvana. Knocked over with your work. That casting looked so clean it seemed almost seemed ready to use ;o) I was dazzled and amazed. Is there nothing you can't do? I don't normally enjoy background music but your choice was near cathartic. Add slow motion and it would be a religious experience. Thanks so much for sharing. Cheers.

    A engine is born!

  • @АлександрПерчов-ж9у

    The Yamaha YZ/ TZ engines are legendary...
    Is it that hard to find used parts now that you are casting crankcases?
    Then what do you do for heads? Cast them also?

    Only if it's a heat treatable alloy. And yes the casting is MUCH stronger and easier to machine when heat treated. These cases are CC601 or you could use LM25.

  • @scott5006

    that is really awesome what you did. I've always wanted to try casting. what is the advantage of casting then machining instead of simply machining from a big block of material?

    • @eflanagan1921
      @eflanagan1921 7 років тому

      Initial and material costs. Designing and programming to machine from billet(solid) would be very expensive. Copying and casting for the basic shape might reduce outlay 75% (?).

    Whitch Temp must the melted iron be to pour it into the moulds?

    • @АлександрПерчов-ж9у
      @АлександрПерчов-ж9у 7 років тому +1

      It's not iron, dumbfuck, motorcycle crankcases are aluminum...

    • @Midnight_Rider96
      @Midnight_Rider96 7 років тому +1

      Александр Перчов take it easy man. Harleys used to be iron. Aluminum melts around 1200°f, pour at 1400

    Is this a PURE aluminium or ALLOY of it. If it is alloy then please describe which is it and how to make it

    • @pbysome
      @pbysome 6 років тому

      This is not pure Al it is lm25 which is a mixture of metals and such.
      Best think to use is metal that has previously been cast I.e car wheels.

    any body please. Do i have to heat treat this aluminum after casting? and how is heat treatment of Aluminum is done?

      Yes.

    • @TheRealCreepinogie
      @TheRealCreepinogie 6 років тому

      Depends. I've made hundreds of motorcycle parts without heat treating. Heat treating of aluminum wasn't common until the 40's.

    You could probably make alot of $ making 1985-89 Honda 250r atv left side cases chain side as there are alot of bad cases out there and the Honda 3 and 4 wheelers are still popular

      Is there a big demand for such cycle parts in the PI? Any in particular?

    • @deckpogi2680
      @deckpogi2680 4 роки тому

      @@sparkimoto there's a lot of parts needed specially some 2 stroke engines parts and some vintage 4 strokes.
      If you can provide the needed parts then a big business will be in front of you right away.
