- A camper living at the abandoned Gulf Harbour Country Club has threatened visitors with a weapon, locals say, but the men camping there say it is them that are being harassed.
The property on the Hibiscus Coast was formerly a prestigious golf course and landmark of the area, but has been abandoned and plagued with issues including arson, and a hefty demolition bill owed to Auckland Council.
Residents have posted on the neighbourhood Facebook page about two incidents when visitors to the property were threatened.
But a man living at the club said this was all part of a vigilante hunt to target him, along with the other campers.

I have no issue with people living this way, in fact shortly i will likely be joining them thanks to the way NZ has been run into the ground and NZ government is purposefully causing hyper inflation
But these aren;t 'campers' they are homeless pikies or travellers...they dont 'camp' they live like this.
And i bet come summer there will be lots more joining them now you;ve shown everyone where to go
Australia is like this to bloody shameful governments on both sides of the water
Look people. One day it will you looking for a place to sleep for the night.
No doubt we shall be told to tighten our belts again, and politicians will vote themselves a new pay rise.
Roll on 2026. Vote wisely.
Y cant they b left alone, this government and the last gvnmnt have destroyed the economy, life is unaffordable unless ur a high earner, get use to it ther wil b thousands more living tough in the near future
We the people destroyed the economy, maths and dynamics takes a back seat to vitriol and smugness.
Time to listen to experts and value the educated and education.
Then we won't have the wool pulled over our eyes, we will look at ourselves as a collective.
The last 3-4 governments fucked it
We haveots of space in NZ people have to live somewhere better they live there in comfort than in the main street of Auckland city..
Ay least this Govt is investing $30 bil in roads for caravans to park on as opposed to affordable housing for people to live in
That's a joke right?
A shortage of housing is the best easiest earner.
We need more compassion
The Primeminister would like to assure people that despite difficulties everyday New Zealanders are having, he is still very rich. Thank you.
Leave them alone
Would the campers help with security? That place is their home now.
Turn the whole area into a camping ground! That way controls can be put in place and everyone win.
You going to pay for it all?
@@oldbloke204 if you don’t understand the concept of controls then you deserve to pay for it through your rates 😂
Check your streets bylaws, campers will be outside your house sooner than later 👍
@@ross82 Yeah no they won't.
We're in a popular Tourist area that doesn't allow overnight camping or even selling cars on the side of the road so people setting up camps with all their trash won't happen.
Also we're on a fairly busy road so any campers would be totalled by a very large truck very quickly most likely.
If you want to stay then pay at the many facilities available for this purpose.
Thanks for playing.
They ain't even playing golf there anymore. Let these people have some peace.
Well thats sad. Hope this chappy got a house? This govt just sold a massive section in silverdale that was planned for housing NZ because the neighboring houses didnt want to live next to poor people 😅 so thr Nats sold it and didnt build the much needed homes. Now we have people sleeping in caravans.
Auckland council’s website has a page where you enter an address and it tells you if there’s a bylaw preventing you from camping there… very few streets are prohibited. If the public won’t leave them alone, maybe it’s time they park up outside these people’s homes 😂
NIMBY's...
Where’s your back yard? Let’s let these scum bags come to your backyard.
Wow! I knew Zane when he was in Aussie, he used to drive tow trucks in North Brisbane, If you read this, Hey bro, hows things? Hope your holding up ok mate👍
Actually, just make this a permanent living spot for the law-abiding, upper class homeless! It’s a perfect spot.
What happened to "WE'RE ALL ONE" ??
No such thing as upper class homeless. It can be used for EVERYONE if that's the case.
Get off ya' classist high horse!
They do the same in America, owners want it blighted so the council will let them do what they previously opposed, develop it into more unsightly condos.
Condos, a practical way to address economic problems and the out flow of capitail via stupidity and indiffrance.
We have a housing shortage, I think more houses are better than a golf course.
@@jayzah Affordable housing is great, condos are for rich people.
Hes been free loading off Hibiscus coast rate payers for years, ARC are taking millions from the areas rate payers to supply & maintain prime areas for these homeless by choice free loaders, time to start charging them for the use. That said whats happened to the newly appointed freedom camping officers who are suppose to be issuing these free loaders fines? Bit of a joke thats been.!
Hey Karen bet you deceive IRD , bet you abused non vaccers, bet you're a capitalist, bet yr a Democrat supporter, bet yr divorced twice ,miserable and sad,and if had one bit of gut would come to my face and repeat yr Karen comments. Now go cry to yr mirror
theres a collaps
can't beat the view of a van
Makes more sense for council to approve residential building permit given the demand for housing and the supply shortage. Plenty of green space if people want to take a scenic drive, but that space is surrounded by residential properties and currently decayed 🤷🏻♂️ Or turn it into one big camp site with car parks to rent caravan spaces to these people. Theres a restaurant called Murphys in Drury, Auckland, with a powered site for caravan spaces at $250 per week including power, with shared toilets, laundry, kitchen, a waste facility, and security. Either way, the owners can develop the old golf course so people have somewhere to live 👍 Some of these locals with their noses up while looking down on others who are struggling need get off their high horse/pedestal and grow a heart ❤️
Big up tim dogg 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
leave them alone mind your own
😮 😍 lovely little home they should really use that land to grow food.
why?
Make everyone look at campervans and you loose true story
need more housing
Imagine how selfish of a life you have to live to end up like this.
And now the taxpayer is expected to foot the entire bill.
Should have left at as a golf course.
Bunch of Karen's that can't mind their own business are upset these guys are camping on private land with permission. Only worried about themselves and their property value.
Vacant land with permission from the owner.
Maybe locals will be happy if they parked up in front their houses 😂
So it now gone be a camp site for all?
Yes
golf courses are the perfect place for mobile homes. the only thing better would be native flora and fauna. maybe we could fundraise for these campers to regenerate the courses. two birds, and one stone being thrown at the wealthy.
Leave people be if he cant rent hes still living better then most, we got people living in run down caravans broken windows etc, in the end its stolen maori land
There are over 6,000 rentals available in Auckland right now
Yeah the issue is most likely the price that landlords want you pay to live in them
You really think these people would be camping if they could afford renting?
Out of the 6000, how many are affordable?
@@NZSUBZERO Much less than it costs to own the houses. It's literally subsidised rent.
Honestly NZers will complain about anything.
@@icefarrow7959 How many hard done by homeless are living in fancy motor homes?
Oh please. Put your reports on the government's policies that actually affect us. By all means post this as well.
Well if you had a balanced tax system , just be greatfull they arnt qualifed and young.
This lot could pay a rental.
You chose to bleed capitail for the inert to have leavrage.
I bet zero female campers sleep there.
Leave them alone ,in the end it's maori land let's be real!he doing no harm.hes clean
Aiigghhtt campsite summer
😂😂😂😂
What the hell happened to the golf course?
Yep that Zane dude up to his old tricks. He self evacuated from Hootens reserve after throwing a rock at a car doing burnouts. That time it was a car load of gang prospects. To put it mildly they were not impressed. I guess the guy will never learn to control his temper.
Old tricks? So gang prospects doing burnouts is OK but this guy living in his car isn't? You have a warped sense of reality bud
@@Gane-Shillis Take a second to think how I know all this. First hand knowledge. I have spent enough years living on the outskirts of society to understand that when keeping your temper under control can literally save your life. Seen some real nasty stuff over the 20 odd years van dwelling in and around Auckland. Yes if a free carparking area becomes a bit noisy due to young guys burning out around you. You have choices. Either relax and enjoy the show, move to another area or throw a rock at them. What would you do?
@@youthoughtitwasbadbefore6134 you don't like him, that's clear. Don't care about your "1st hand knowledge". You were insinuating that gangs are OK but homeless people aren't. Your clearly a Muppet mate
@@youthoughtitwasbadbefore6134 excellent comment, too many people have given into their violence urges in this country.
@@youthoughtitwasbadbefore6134 Call the cops. Pretty obvious fourth choice.
Upside down flag isn’t helping your cause of squatters rights.. I thought NZ offered some basic housing for elderly folks in need. “Freedom” camping is vagrancy, just look at how out of control the homeless are in America!
Best you look up dictionary meaning of squatter.Who wants a house ,ha most average earners with rents and mortgages are not jumping with financial.glee or is yr head to far up to look around outside ur own palace
Why foesnt the council.let the owners develope it into homes. ?
No need to be intimidated by softies, they wont attack physically, they're scared of jail.
