I had a PLX 1-8x and sold it to buy the Vortex 1-10x. Had the Gen III 1-10x for about 6 months or so and put nearly 1,000 rounds down range. Ended up selling it and going back to the PLX Griffin MIL. It was certainly a good scope, but the PLX just felt better optically. I really wanted to like the Gen III since I’m a vortex fanboi and probably wouldn’t mind having another one in the collection at some point.
I like my PLXc 1-8, but the 8x eyebox I feel is pretty picky and somewhat blurry. I honestly enjoy getting behind my Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x FFP version more than the PLXc. The 1x on the PLXc is nicer (wider FOV and bezel disappears) but in order to get the best of 1x and 8x, I have to adjust the ocular focus quite a bit. I have three paint marks on the ocular ring for best 1x, best 8x, and best happy-medium.
@@JGoodZX6R To each his own. I love my PLX. 8 is always going to be picky on a 1-8. I used a Strike Eagle 1-8 and do not have the save opinion using 8, but I am glad that it is working for you.

It'll be similar to all the 1-10x in it's price. It's not like Trijicon is doing anything different with the glass maybe housing if they bring out a VCOG 1-10x.
You can make the image at 10x sharper by moving the diopter. Many people will compromise and set their diopter so that the reticle is slightly less sharp at lower magnifications, but grants greater sharpness at 10x and keeps the reticle crisp at 10x. Yes, another tradeoff, but one that's usually pretty worth it
Love them and hate them for what they cost the “household” budget. Seriously a great value to the community. I can’t imagine what it takes to put something like that out daily but thank you for doing it!
If it wasn’t for the cost I’d have one on my deer rifle, imo it would be a fantastic general purpose option for hunting. 1X would be great for the woods and 10X is plenty for any distance most of us will ever shoot at game.
I put a monstrum 1-6 on my 6.5 grendel ar that I use on hogs and deer. The illumination knob fell off under recoil and it didn't hold zero. I was working on a tight budget. I upgraded to the affordable SIG tango 1-10 sfp. I'm very happy with it so far. But if I could afford the vortex razor....
A caveat to ranger wrapping your scope is that companies that make honey comb anti sniper covers tend to be very precise. Because of the ranger wrap on mine, it could not be properly mounted. Camouflaging your “apocalypse,” firearm is fun. However, that is a draw back with the optic, should you choose to cover up the odd colored scope as it comes.

I'm glad you mentioned the chromatic aberration because it was something I wondered about given I've had camera lenses that I got in my early years before I knew and took many pictures with only to discover the purple fringing that happens with ultra zoom lenses. Here I thought I took great pictures only to have to crop them and lose half the scene because leaves aren't purple. Hopefully it prevents the stupid end of a 50 mm tube on a 1x - 24x LPVO unless some genius can figure out how to bend light without the inherent prism creating a rainbow.
Ordinary 6pak joe here. Not buying one unless i hit the lottery. Even then my $200-300 scopes work just fine out on the gun range even out to 600+ yards. Thanks for the review
I am sure it is great. I shoot 7.62x39 so I opted for an ACOG and a MPVO on QD mounts. I run the acog 90% of the time. And if I am hunting or goofing off at the range I might use the MPVO. A LPVO seemed like too much of a compromise for me.
I picked one up with a mil discount last week. I like it for what it is. I was deciding between the ATACR 1-8 and could not justify the +500 dollars more.
I’ve had a March Tactical 2.5-25 power scope on a 308 DMR for over a decade. And that 10x power range comes with a VERY unforgiving eye box. Left me scared to drop big money on another full 10x magnification range. Sounds like the latest gen optics have resolved most of that issue.
Thanks for the review. I’m trying to decide between Vortex or Eotech for +-$600 less. I have the Vortex strike eagle ffp 1x8 on my 556 and I’m happy with it. I’d like to see you review the Watchtower Type10 I can’t find any reviews, I found a great price and pulled the trigger. We will see have not received rifle yet.
The chromatic aberration happens at the top and bottom end of almost every scope. It's not specifically because it's 1x or 10x and more to do with the adhesives keeping the lenses secure to the adjustments inside the scope.
Two things I would change on this scope. 1 I would have the stadia lines go all the way out to the edge on 1X. And 2 I would only have the dot itself lit up. Not the rings around it. For the love of God, please use a flash hider cap on your Sandman, especially if you have the K model. It makes a huge difference even if you just put a 7.62 FH cap for your 12.5" 5.56. You can literally have a 16" barrel shooting fireball OR a 10.3" with little to no flash.
I had both the razor 1-10 and the primary arms 2.5-10 and I still have the primary arms. The razor 1-10 is like looking through a straw at 10 power and is a lot darker image.
Perfect timing on this video dropping! I have a great opportunity to get this scope and am leaning towards pulling the trigger specifically because of the “daylight bright” illumination. Wow did anyone else notice the fire ball coming out of that suppressor in the intro? It’s not making the rifle hearing safe or eliminating the rifles flash signature what’s the point?
Eh I have one.. still probably objectively the best 1-10 out there... but I'd never buy another one because, well, they run near $2k while the 1-8 plxc is $1k all day long and the eotech vudu 1-10 is $1300 all day long... the juice just isn't worth the extra squeeze.
Always enjoy the reviews and vids! I'm sure it's top shelf but, $2,500 is a LOT for a LPVO! And to be honest I'm not a fan of this particular reticle. But that's just me.
Trying to decide between this optic and the PLXc 1-8 FFP. I am seeing a lot more advantages to this one over the PLXc. Like red dot level brightness, extra zoom, and IMO a better BDC reticle. Cost being no factor, if you had to pick between one or the other, what would you choose? Also I was curious, because this optic is 1-10x, if it is set at 8x, does it have a significantly more forgiving eyebox than the PLXc does at 8x?
The only LPVO I've ever had was a Vortex Strike Eagle and I HATED it. The eye box was insufferable...sold it and bought an EXPS2 that I adore. Kinda wanna give this a shot on one of my new additions, though. How's the eye box? EDIT: He says it's tight sometimes...hmmm...

Depends on what you are using it for, if you’re shooting out to a few hundred yards the Atacr is hard to beat with the plxc probably in last out of the three you mentioned. For close-mid distances you can’t go wrong with either

Looks like a great optic but it likely falls outside the budget of most citizens. I'm not at all insinuating that Vortex is overcharging or that the LPVO is worth less, just that when you add the context of this costing about as much as a used gen 3 PVS-14 with minor blems, the benefit/cost ratio just isn't there. When an optic company makes an $1,100 ACOG look like a budget option, it's clear I am outside that company's intended market.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but a 6x acog also costs as much as the 10X razor and idk about you, but I can really only use the acog out to 600 meters, and that's not a precise shot.
@@A_Marine_and_his_rifle Fair point. I was referring to a 4x ACOG, either TA31 or TA02, which admittedly has a somewhat different (but overlapping) use-case as a 1-10x. With that said, to compare prices: Trijicon 1-8x28mm VCOG -> MSRP: $2,987 Street Price: $2,099 Vortex Razor HD Gen III 1-10x24mm -> MSRP: $4,000 Street Price: $2,499. So, there is anywhere from $400 to $1,000 in savings and that's before you add the extra expense of a mount (people typically spend between $200 and $500) whereas the VCOG comes with an incorporated mount. Unfortunately, I don't have firsthand experience with either of these specific optic models (which is why I appreciate the videos from @Mrgunsngear), but does that extra 2x of magnification give you enough improvement at further ranges to warrant the price difference?
@@Rubeless There will always be customers that are willing to "spare no expense" to get the best product money can buy, and I don't blame companies for designing and manufacturing for those people. They just need to understand that the average customer will try to stretch their dollar as best they can and won't see products like these as a reasonable option.
I've had one for a few years now. It's on my go to lmt spec war mrp. I'm still not completely in love with it. I run a red dot at the 12 o'clock for nods. I think a better combo would be the nightforce 2.5-10 with the red dot. I run that set up on my scarand am very happy with it
Problem with the vortex scopes that I have ever had -- every single one of them needed warranty service -- regardless of cost... Can't say the same about my NF and my Leupold MK5 scopes... zero issues. I don't understand the vortex devotion and fanboi ism -- vortex I guess is great if you like being without a scope because you have to send it in for warranty. Otherwise -- get a better built scope if you count on it to save your life.
You can get 1 at optics planet for $2300 and it is still a lot of money. The only 1 who can answer that question is you though. Do you plan on putting it on something that may save your life? Is the equipment something you would trust to save your life. Can you afford it? If the answer to all 3 of those is yes, then I say it's worth it. If not, there are other options out there.
@@A_Marine_and_his_rifle I’d say no for the first 2 but yes for 3rd lol. I’m looking for a short to mid range scope for 300 blkout hunting.
With that said, to compare prices:
Trijicon 1-8x28mm VCOG -> MSRP: $2,987 Street Price: $2,099
Vortex Razor HD Gen III 1-10x24mm -> MSRP: $4,000 Street Price: $2,499.
Buy what you want. $5000 to me is different than what it is to others.
@@Rubeless There will always be customers that are willing to "spare no expense" to get the best product money can buy, and I don't blame companies for designing and manufacturing for those people. They just need to understand that the average customer will try to stretch their dollar as best they can and won't see products like these as a reasonable option.
EOTECH Vudu 1-10×28 FFP has a street price of $1500 (no mount). Same feature set and similar reticle.
Top LPVO, along with the NF ATACR 1-8, in my opinion. For me it was a coin flip, I went with the NF ATACR. I love the performance of both.
both are over priced trash
You're lucky with yours at 1x. I tested 2 different Gen3s and both had a 1x view that looked more 0.8x
Mine’s a 2020 BDC, no bending noticed
Good video
Thank you
Whats up with the huge muzzle flashes seen with a suppressor on? Thought those eliminate flash.
I don't want to intrude but, did you have a form or MRSA? That's sorta what it looks like from that scene with you're calf at 0:1:19.00 - 0:1:36:00
@Mrgunsngear how are you running Strelok Pro on your phone? Mine was banned on the iPhone due to the SMO situation.
Trijicon supremacy.
I've had one for a few years now. It's on my go to lmt spec war mrp. I'm still not completely in love with it. I run a red dot at the 12 o'clock for nods. I think a better combo would be the nightforce 2.5-10 with the red dot. I run that set up on my scarand am very happy with it
How does this Razor compare to the Vortex AMG 1-10?
Problem with the vortex scopes that I have ever had -- every single one of them needed warranty service -- regardless of cost... Can't say the same about my NF and my Leupold MK5 scopes... zero issues.
I don't understand the vortex devotion and fanboi ism -- vortex I guess is great if you like being without a scope because you have to send it in for warranty. Otherwise -- get a better built scope if you count on it to save your life.
How are you liking the summit mount? I’ve had one for a few months so far and it’s rock solid
it's solid
I'll stick with my GenII 1-6x. This option doesn't cost me any more money.
$4k is insane for an lpvo. Is it really worth that cost?
You can get 1 at optics planet for $2300 and it is still a lot of money. The only 1 who can answer that question is you though. Do you plan on putting it on something that may save your life? Is the equipment something you would trust to save your life. Can you afford it? If the answer to all 3 of those is yes, then I say it's worth it. If not, there are other options out there.
@@A_Marine_and_his_rifle I’d say no for the first 2 but yes for 3rd lol. I’m looking for a short to mid range scope for 300 blkout hunting. This seems like a good selection but price is a bit steep unless it’s the best option for the money. If there are better bang for you buck options, I’d like to weight them all out.
