LOVE this. I am such an introvert that "what to expect" addresses first time jitters and increases the chance I'd do an in-person class eventually! For virtual, this is also good for me. I can watch this on breaks at work, etc to learn more. Also, I was in marching band in high school/college so I'm excited to find the similarities.

Wonderful, Joan! I am so glad that this could give you the courage to dance in a studio one day! :)
The little social norms and expectations always made me SUPER anxious when I was a new dancer, as I'm also very shy when I'm not on camera, so walking into a studio where even the casual interactions seemed choreographed was a little scary for me! But, once you get the hang of it, it'll come naturally, and before you know it, you'll be the one helping the other new beginners who come after you learn the ropes!

“If you’re watching this on UA-cam, you’re probably a researcher…” I have never felt more seen 😂 I actually had my first class last week without having seen this and everyone was so nice but definitely could have used those at the barre tips haha. I’ll know better for next class 😊 Thanks so much for this though-such a great overview.

This is great, I’ve been teaching myself and just started taking my first adult beginner class last week - the resources I’ve been using the last month on UA-cam seemed geared toward youth, I can’t believe there’s this whole channel and your studio just geared towards adults! Thank you so much!!

Thanks for this! Another tip to add on to the tip on researching: Don't stress it too much! I'm definitely a researcher and tried to get familiar with terms, positions, etiquette, etc before my first lesson - but I feel like I wasn't really prepared anyway and I learned all of this very quickly in class. If you're really scared maybe it's an option to just watch a class first - I know my studio offers it. I'm lucky that I wasn't the only newcomer that class and that the teacher is very kind and patient.

what kind of chair should I use for a barre at home? I am a little tall and have a hard time finding a chair with high enough back. what kind of step stool are you using here?

Its not my idea to start ballet, its my stretching teacher s idea, and i got invited to her ballet class. I remember my first class,so embarrasing.
