It looks a lot like the one you have. I wanted a 20mm for travel landscapes. The 3.5 is small for travel and is built like a tank. Purchased one on ebay for $200. I got it today and put it on my new Nikon Z6 with the FTZ adaptor. It seems to work perfectly and the focus peeking with it is cool too. It's also fun to think this lens is almost 50 years old and still great. Thanks again.
Bought the Nikkor 20G 1.8 for astro. It's soooooo f*%#ing awesome. It has replaced the Tamron 15-30 as my Favourite goto lens. It is sharp as anything I've seen to date. My question ken, is this the sharpest 20mm? The comparison to the 1.8 didn't seem obvious.

The f4 is the rarer version. Just as sharp, slightly smaller. If you have one, cherish it. I found a mint one in Japan and dragged it all the way back to Ireland to give it a new home.
Tom Vestvik ive used that lens twice, and NOW, that lens is rare as piss, .....try finding one that doest cost less than $450 it has less distortion than the 20mm does.

wide angle prime junkie, bought new (mabey shouldn;t have) nikkor 20mm 2.8, pentax a 20mm 2.8 (because nostalgia for me and rare), looking to get the 20mm voitlander 3.5, and the metabones speedbooster, to use the nikkors on my Fuji Xpro2.
Sharper than a sharp thing, sharpened by a Japanese sharpener. Up close it gives a super crisp portrait (unflattering of course due to being wide angle..). I used your video on setting up manual lens and very happy with the result. Almost time to trade in my Sigma 17-50 as its now pretty much redundant.

My Nikon AF 20mm 2.8D is optically perfect. But it has a problem as I visit High Himalaya in sub zero temperate the lens lacks its corner sharpness. It becomes worse when I come back in Calcutta. ( It Cannot focus at all). The temperature varies -20C to +35C in couple of days. This has happened several times and local professional person fixed it.I have several Nikon MF and AF lenses bot only this lens has such problem. Inform me how can I fix the problem permanently.

The old Tamron 10-24 is a good lens. It is a bit dark for Astro though. Nikon's current 20mm f1.8g is a good lens for that, unfortunately it requires the GDP of a small country to purchase. If you can stand the shaming grab a Rokinon/Sam Yang/Bower 14mm 2.8 or 20mm 1.8 and both give a respectable performance. As Theoria mentioned you are probably too tight to grab any unless you find a deal used somewhere. (Good Deal) Best of luck.
Have you tried the Tokina 11-16mm ? I did some astrophotos with it and was quite happy but havent properly tried it out yet. Just borrowed it for a night
For anyone looking to purchase the 2.8D, there is two versions, this one wich hes shows in his video is perfectly fine, slighty soft in 2.8, but superb forward 3.5. The other version, have a different enclousure, wich is not flat like this int the barrel __|- and have some pertrusion, is more like this _/--, and is disgusting bad, only gets acceptable at f5.6! Dont buy this version, buy the flat one!

12 24 f4 has low coma and would be also excellent for asto work
