Hey guys, just did a speakers+radio swap in my 250, and these videos were a huge help, thank you so much! If I ever find myself in Utah I'll buy you all a round of drinks 🙂
Even after you are done installing i can still see where you modified the opening on top with a file. Isn't there some kind of adaptor kit to hide that?
Great video! I installed a pioneer Avh2500 in a 2004 F250. Bluetooth menu is hidden until the green park brake wire is connected. On a 2004 there are two wires on the park brake switch. Red and green with red stripe. It’s the green wire with red stripe that’s needed if you don’t use a bypass.
Also the head unit had two plugs in the back of the stock one. The second plug didn't need to be plugged back into the stock unit to make the lights work again.
What knowledge do you have on swapping steering wheels? Specifically, I have have an 02 f350 SD. It doesn't have steering wheel radio controls, but I would like it to. I've seen Excursions that have those steering wheel controls. What is it I need to do to make them work properly? New clock spring with a new steering wheel?
There was a post about a year ago that asked if the Pioneer unit you installed would work with the factory 6 Disc CD changer. Same question I have. The factory unit he took out was a 6 Disc CD changer. Since you had a install kit that mated to the factory harness it would seem like it would work with the new Pioneer unit. But every place I check including Crutchfield says that there is no aftermarket unit that will work with the 6 Disc CD changer.
But, how did you install the cradle for the radio?? I am trying to remove a pioneer radio to restore a factory radio. Thank you in advance for your response.
Hoping to find a video showing inserting or removing the new radio. I have an old (now) Pioneer X920BT installed aftermarket in my 2004 F250, but after about 8yrs it is now fried and needs to be replaced - or I'm right and the antenna wire is simply disconnected. Is it just held by friction so I should be able to simply pry it out? Coincidentally, the day I took it to a stereo installer to see if they could troubleshoot it I noticed it was sitting askew, angled towards the passenger. Figuring I wouldn't be likely to break it worse than it already was (no reception of radio and XM module's volume so low the unit's volume has to be maxed to hear (working) XM even with engine off) I used my thumb to shove it back flush with the dash - so maybe I can simply pry it out to see if the antenna cable is still connected and/or if the fuse in back is blown. What started all this was my alternator went out, and during all the charging and dead batteries until the alternator was replaced the radio crapped out. Still streams bluetooth from my phone fine, so that is the only music I've had recently. It's nav functions work fine too. It's so old though I'm tempted to replace it with a newer model that'd have carplay. I'd love to install a front facing camera as a 2nd camera, too. I'm considering the Pioneer 8200 or Kenwood 9904s, but before I buy I want to see if the x920BT just needs to be reinstalled or have it's fuse replaced.
teccec did you ever figure out how to take it out? It’s been a few years since I installed mine. Batteries died and after jumping it the radio doesn’t turn on. Checked all the under dash fuses and they looked good. Was going to pull the radio and see if behind it there was a fuse
@@fullstack17110 had to pull it a couple years ago as it had power issues. Turned out one of the two power connectors was loose so I just plugged it in securely and closed the dash back up. Mine had been a custom install so I don’t know if it was mounted normally, I had to pull the entire dash then just slid the radio out. I still have the turd, wish I didn’t but I keep finding other things to spend money on…
Is there something you use to fill in at the top so the filed edges don't look so bush league? I'm sure this wasn't the finished product, if it was and I paid for it, I'd be choked.
Great video. I have two questions: 1) In matching up the wires on mine I can't find one for the steering wheel controls. Any idea? 2) what is the USB for? thanks.
Hey I can't seem to get my camera to work I used the pink wire that came on the harness for the radio ran a,wire from the reverse line black an purple an yet I don't have the camera or screen engaged. What I did get was my truck going back an forth to reverse an radio as I'm driving I have no clue what happened
I like the set up of the pioneer but I read that its compatible with the iOSsoftware only. Any suggestions on a similar model with GPS display that is compatible with Android.. that will fit in the f350 2004 dash ?
With this Metra kit no. It says on their site you will have to remove part of the dash. I’m in the process to determine how to mount without doing this. I’m not setting myself up to remove the dash.
I'm trying to install a Pioneer AVH1300NEX in a 2001 Ford chassis RV. If you note in this video when the old stereo is removed, there is a bracket on the back of the stereo that slides on a bottom rail that is part of the vehicle, almost like a drawer slide. The Pioneer stereo does not appear to accomodate that bracket, so my question is, how is the rear of the stereo supported? Is there a dash kit with a sleeve available that would slide on this rail?
I'm using this same install kit to put a Pioneer 490BS into my '04 F-250. I would like to add the AVIC U280 GPS/Navigation module and back-up camera later this summer. My question is how will I remove the Pioneer radio from the dash once it snaps into place? Will I be able to remove the dash bezel surround or will the mount be in the way? Thanks and this was a very helpful video.
Hey I have a question for you? I have an 03 ford excursion. And an avh-2440 it says hd radio but doesn’t pick up stations, my previous radio that is also a double din DVD player works just fine for radio. Though I use my phone a lot. I would like to have the radio working. I pick up absolutely nothing I’m in ogden UTAH and there are plenty of hd stations. Any tips? I am lost and no forums have the answer. The harness is the exact same as this video and I do not have a power antenna neither does this harness. I just don’t know what to do.
I have a 99 f250 crew, does that specific outfit come with a CD player I hope? I will always love my CDs. Appreciate your time n thoughts n suggestions. Thanks Ty
Mark Nichols Thanks for all the great videos. I am about to start on a radio upgrade on my 2001 Ford Excursion XLT and have watched your related videos. However, the recommended Metra 70-1771 harness has only a single 16 pin plug. The 2001 excursion has a second plug and wiring harness which plugs into a port on the back of the factory radio identified as an amp but actually runs to the back of a center console rear speaker controller. I believe if this is not connected, the rear 4 speakers will not function. Please advise as to a solution and/or can you identify the correct Metra harness. I have looked at their website but they identify only the 70-1771 part number.
The 2nd harness is for the steering wheel controls, not for driving speakers. I have a 2002 Excursion (Limited trim). At least on this trim package, the 2nd, bulkier connector is for SWI (steering wheel interface), which i am leaving unconnected.
Have a 2002 ford excursion. Just put in my new head unit and my cluster and thermostat lights no longer work. But if i plug the wire back into the stock head unit it works. So obviously a wrong wire but the head unit and speakers are working fine and i matched wires correctly. I've installed many head units and never had this problem... Any ideas? Is the "illumination" wire off the head unit for dash illumination or head unit illumination?
Provo Beast Audio Installation yeahh i searched around already, everyone's problem ended up being a fuse and that's not the problem. Guess i'll take it to an audio shop or the dealer. Thanks anyways!
Either pull the full dash bezel off, or use a putty knife and try to compress the slide clips so the radio can move out. Metra recommends to remove the dash bezel itself.
thanks for the helpful video, I see that the dash bezel needs to be removed to remove the radio in the future, so to state the obvious does that mean I leave out the two screws above the radio opening when I install the new radio?
I was really hoping this was going to be an INSTALL video. You showed wires put together. Everyone knows how to do that. You showed a file and that two areas need to be filed down, but you never showed anything about what holds the new stereo head into the dash.. You said two screws had to be removed, but is this going to end up being a rattling issue?? I'd say this is not really an install video, but more of a sales pitch for you. Also, I don't see even one question answered below in comments.... smh...
@The-Metal-Life I have to agree with Steve. I'm a school trained automotive mech, formerly ASE certified in electrical, a former jet mech and inspector, as well as a holding the highest FCC license for amateur radio. This wasn't a very good install vid. 1) Those crimps are low quality and provide a horrible electrical connection. They're also highly failure prone and prone to corrosion. Soldering and heat shrink are far preferable. 2) The needed modification was seriously lacking in information and detail. That's shoddy workmanship. The excess wires should have been secured wit zip ties and/or electrical tape to prevent chaffing and other damage modes.
He did a great explanation, he pretty much gave you all the answers. I know I'm late to reply to this, the wiring colors pretty much line up color for color. He did a great video
I wish to do this to my 04 excursion, I want to keep the steering wheel controls active and I see there is a kit for that. My question is does the factory video system still work in the back seats? dvd and controls in back?

But every place I check including Crutchfield says that there is no aftermarket unit that will work with the 6 Disc CD changer.
The installer said you must have the break set. Well I figured out he meant the emergency break. I can now access all settings. I changed the auto dimming to manual because I run my headlights during the day. Thx
Since the radio clips into the actual dash bezel, you will have to remove the entire dash bezel away from around the steering column for the radio to come free. Really, its a poor design.
All the part numbers are in the description of the video. www.amazon.com/Metra-95-5817-Installation-1995-2008-Vehicles/dp/B0024L8I02/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496411905&sr=8-1&keywords=Metra+95-5817+Double+DIN+Installation+Kit
Or can I fit a single din with a touch screen? Basically I want my car to have a screen that can possibly tell me what song I'm hearing, gps and or a back up screen when I back up? Is this possible?
Thank you, I was just going to add that in a comment. The background music made it very difficult to to hear what the installer was saying. Other than that, well done.

Just purchased this exact same unit for my 2000 F250. I'll make sure and purchase anything more off you guys. Thanks.
I also have 2000 f250, did you have to file the edges too? Or did it fit seamlessly?
Cloud Nine Kennels you gotta file
Mr Haggin how much do you have to file? I’m trying to put my radio in a 2000 F250
M8320 how much of it did you have to file?
Even after you are done installing i can still see where you modified the opening on top with a file. Isn't there some kind of adaptor kit to hide that?
Use this video as a better tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/m0e2dbgKRV8/v-deo.html
Great video! I installed a pioneer Avh2500 in a 2004 F250. Bluetooth menu is hidden until the green park brake wire is connected. On a 2004 there are two wires on the park brake switch. Red and green with red stripe. It’s the green wire with red stripe that’s needed if you don’t use a bypass.

No way you did a filer. I’m doing that rn and it’s taking forever
Buy a new file or get a dermal. Duh
@@chipperfluffy I’m going to use a sawzaw
There's no better alternative they could supply that would support removal of the radio, without tearing out the dashboard, after you put it in ?
But, how did you install the cradle for the radio?? I am trying to remove a pioneer radio to restore a factory radio. Thank you in advance for your response.
Thank you. Is the radio just press fit into the rectangle hole? No screws or anything to hold it? I have this truck too. Very helpful explanation.
Can you do a more in dept video on installing the parking break wire correctly? I can only find videos on bypassing it.
I had stupid question. If parking brake wire. Couldn't u just ground it out on any ground area or a ground wire???
Where did you run your USB extension cable to? Did you have it coming out down below?
Yep, or you can run it to the glove box.
I was considering a small hole in the map pocket or the drink tray on my 2000 excursion. Lots of nice options on these vehicles.

Learned from another vid you can use 16d nails instead of buying radio removal tool

What if u have a 4 speaker system with a factory amp?
What are the biggest speakers you can fit in the front doors without having to cut anything.
6x8" are the largest speakers to fit in the factory location.

Just keep the 280 for now, really no difference between the two that is worth replacing for. The 290 is just the next model year newer.

I wish to do this to my 04 excursion, I want to keep the steering wheel controls active and I see there is a kit for that. My question is does the factory video system still work in the back seats? dvd and controls in back?
Every car differs, so usually the rear controls are lost in Fords. Also, it just depends how your DVD player is wired. Is it a factory screen?
Provo Beast Audio Installation yes it's all factory. Not that we use it but never know. .
How did you connect the ebrake wire? As in location, what wire that kind of stuff
We used a micro bypass for pioneer. We have a video on the channel that shows you how to use one.
Was there any cutting needed on the truck for the radio to fit the hole.
Yes, start @ 4:10 of the video to see what we had to cut.
Is this unit compatible with the factory in-console disc changer in the Excursions?
Same question I have. The factory unit he took out was a 6 Disc CD changer. Since he had a install kit that mated to the factory harness it would seem like it would work with the new Pioneer unit. But every place I check including Crutchfield says that there is no aftermarket unit that will work with the 6 Disc CD changer.
What relay or bypass is needed to bypass the parking brake connection for DVDs
Wyatt M wire the parking break indicator off the radio into the positive to the radio so it always thinks the break is on
are there different size but connectors?
Yes, all depends on the gauge of wire you choose. We use 14-16 gauge butt connectors in the video.
If I ever wanted to go back to a factory radio could I or will where I filed show and look like crap.
do you guys know where to hook up the vss/pink wire on the 8200nex? I also have a 2004 f250
VSS wire is a Gray/black wire located at Powertrain Control Module
How did you get the ghosted stetting s to work with the Gear shift in park and the brake on. My screen settings are ghosted. Thx
Some settings are only available when the screen is in the initial mode. Check the manufactures manual for some tips on how to access those menus.
The installer said you must have the break set. Well I figured out he meant the emergency break. I can now access all settings. I changed the auto dimming to manual because I run my headlights during the day. Thx
How to remove? Don’t want to take the dash apart!
On these, you will most likely need to pull the full dash bezel off unless you can get a puddy knife and release the dash kit clips around the radio.
How do you remove the aftermarket radio and metra kit once it is installed?
You have to pull the whole dash bezel off. Kind of a bummer.
Gotcha. I tried that the other day but didn't want to go to far. How do you work it around the gear shifter and still pull the radio out?
Pull shifter down into low and adjust the wheel as low as possible.
Did you use the A shaped bracket behind the radio?
No, the radio didn't seem to need the bracket with its weight, so it mounted fine without it. If you feel the radio sags, you will need that part.
Is the reverse wire the same for manual transmission
Yep, should be.
Great video! Thanks for the tips and help!
Where did you get the dash kit I can't find none
www.amazon.com/Metra-95-5817-Installation-1995-2008-Vehicles/dp/B0024L8I02/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1535637978&sr=8-1&keywords=Metra+95-5817+Double+DIN+Installation+Kit
does this also work for the e-350?
My Metra kit didn’t come with any hardware...
How do you Pull this radio out to hook up a new camera?
Since the radio clips into the actual dash bezel, you will have to remove the entire dash bezel away from around the steering column for the radio to come free. Really, its a poor design.
Thank you. I was not sure and did not want to just start pulling on things. Thanks for your help
How do you remove that kit?
great video
Where are you feeding the USB cord to?
Glove Box
I went through the fuse panel
do you need the double din multi kit?
Yes, You need a Metra 95-5817 Double DIN Installation Kit
Is the dash the same in a 1998 f-650?
yes, should be almost identical.
what kind of speakers do you have?
This was a customer vehicle, so most likely they were stock.
Where on amazon can I found the dash kit...

Well the stereo fit in a 97 Ford F1 50
Yes, your F150 can accommodate any standard double din.
What size is that??
Great videos on this install. Thank you.
what size touch screen radio works?
Any standard double din.
How would you remove the double bin if you want the new one out? I have a back up camera that broke I need to plunge new wires to the back of it.
Did you get it? They usually have holes at top you can use a pick or something to hook into and pull
So this can work on a 1998 Ford Mustang?
Generally no, unless you modify the dash to accommodate a double din. This year mustang can only fit a single din.
How much would it cost me to fit that double din?
Or can I fit a single din with a touch screen? Basically I want my car to have a screen that can possibly tell me what song I'm hearing, gps and or a back up screen when I back up? Is this possible?
Depends on the shop you choose to modify your dash.
Yes, a single din flip out screen will work great in your application.
I could see the chopped up top section. Maybe use a dremel?? Looked like sharks teeth.
This f250 and f350 are 1999 2007
Not 1998 2004
no lmao
What’s the price for the whole thing.
Don't use a file , use a small detail sander ...ugh ..messy.
your file job shows, doesn't look very good
Cool video, lose the stupid music next time.
Thank you, I was just going to add that in a comment. The background music made it very difficult to to hear what the installer was saying. Other than that, well done.
Bow did the new stereo secure in the dash and how do you remove it if needed
If you need to pull the deck is there an easy way to or do you have to remove the dash after you installed it
You can get a putty knife and pop the clips of the radio dash kit to slip the radio back out, or pull the entire dash bezel out to gain that access.
Is it the same dash kit for a kenwood double din?
Yep, the exact same.
How do I take that radio out?
Pull the entire dash bezel or use a putty knife and try to relieve the clips.
Does it have a speed sensor wire?
This model Pioneer does not.
Provo Beast Audio Installation I have 3 wires left on the radio harness 2 are black/lt green and the other is all black any idea what they're for?
All black generally will always be a ground. Black / Light green could be a few things but also could be a ground. I would check with the manufacture.
Provo Beast Audio Installation I figured that black would be ground but the 2 wire diagrams I've seen said black/lt grn is ground why I'm confused
Sometimes it is for a factory amplifier, whether you have it or not.
