      Yeah those idiots do that on every YT channel! And the thing that pisses me off is they steal the creators logo design & channel name to put on their scam messages in the comment section. This should be unacceptable by UA-cam or any platform. UA-cam should turn this over to law enforcement immediately and these people should be hunted down charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!!!!! What makes me so mad is innocent people get scammed outta money. Another thing these phone call scammers need to be dealt with thru international law enforcement to prosecute them!!!! They’re mainly from India 🇮🇳 and Pakistan 🇵🇰 and abroad but they trick older retirees into giving credit card information and they rob them blind. This needs to be seriously tracked down internationally and have law enforcement in all countries to strictly enforce prosecution for these crimes! I PERSONALLY AM SICK OF THESE SCAMMERS CALLING MY PHONE 📱 PRACTICALLY EVERY DAY !!!!!!! But I can’t see how they steal YT creators logo and get away with it by UA-cam 🤷🏻‍♂️! Also on other channels I’ve seen Chinese are putting pornography links to whores in the comments and I report it to UA-cam and UA-cam won’t remove them! Go figure that one out ????? 🤷🏻‍♂️😤🤬

    Two things. Have you ever used a metal detector to scan the tree for metal prior to placing it on the sawmill?
    I have a friend that removes trees for a living. Prior to any cutting, he scans the tree with a metal detector, as a nail or spike will ruin your day.
    The second thing is Lenox makes a carbide grit band saw blade that will cut through wire and stay sharp. The blades aren't inexpensive, but for your application might allow you to salvage good board footage from what is to become scrap wood.

    You guys should add a Lathe to your shop. Great tool to turn special cuts off a lot into bowls and such, and an even better outlet for turning odd or little pieces into something useful. And the shavings can be used for mulch.
    If the log is green, fast turning bowl blanks (for instance) is fast and fun. Green wood turns like butter, versus dried wood more like beef jerky. Turn the blanks to 10% thickness of diameter, slap some sealer on them and drop them on a shelf to dry. Once dry, you've got a pretty stable bowl blank already roughed out. turn it to finish, urethane oil, buff and done.
    And it's fun too boot.

    Back in the 90s I received some sycamore after a hurricane and i cut into blocks and painted the end grain for turning. I let it sit for awhile then turned a vessel on the lathe and I guess the wood was still drying as it started to go oval in shape and no splitting, pretty crazy wood and wild grain. all these years and its egg shaped still. that book matched wood is a knockout.

    Mother was firewood cutter as a child. She taught me alot as we cut wood. One advice she gave is if the tree your cutting is in a yard with young boys. Expect metal in the wood. Believe it are not but I have cut old trees weather has blown down in a old home place which boys grew up at. Full of nails. Once cut at a fork in the trunk. Old coke bottle in it. Yeap! Dulled three chains before I got it cut out.

    Sycamore is a wood that grows near water such as creeks and rivers. It is a wood that is difficult to hand split because of interlocking fibers. As a previous gentleman indicated, tightly band the slabs as you air dry them due to warpage perhaps additional bands are the way to go, and let them dry for a much longer period…Hope this is helpful. It was a good lockout catching the metal fencing!!

  • @sassafrasvalley1939
    @sassafrasvalley1939 2 роки тому +1

    Those are some nice Sycamore slabs. Here are a few facts about what you have:
    Comparing them to The Live Oak that you cut…
    Sycamore will weigh less when green than the Live oak will after kiln dried. For a cubic foot… Sycamore is 53Lb green and 35Lb dry. While Live Oak is 76Lb green and 62Lb dry. Or, Sycamore weighs less by 32% (green) and 44% (dry).
    Sycamore is great for kitchenware. It doesn’t stain easily an isn’t prone to splitting. It is used to make wooden spoon’s, cutting boards, bowls…. Etc.
    Because of its light weight and ability to withstand impacts (it’s not real brittle). Another popular use for it is crates and light duty pallets.
    We used to have two explosive factories here. Sycamore was the wood of choice for dynamite crates. If you watch any old movies that have authentic
    TNT crates in them… they were most likely Sycamore!
    Because it is soft it is also perfect for absorbing impact. I use a round of it as a base beneath my anvil. Because it is light weight, I cut wedges to use as wheel chocks… but beware, Sycamore will deteriorate quickly with ground contact.
    Sorry that you lost the audio but thankfully you were able to keep the extraordinary video!

    i think you are in for a surprise. Sycamore once cut, will warp like crazy. Ive a cousin with one side of his barn made with it and boards as wide as 18 inches. Some smaller ones down to 8 inches. Over time they have warped so bad that they pull out all the nails from half their length and if forced back in and renailed, over the years, did it several more times. He tried making some indoor shelving in his den and upper clothes closets, same story. Its tough to use as fire wood also, as it holds lots of water for a long time and in a fireplace, simply pops and throws cinders all over the house. Your mileage may vary, but thats the results ive seen. Good luck!!

      Sycamore is everywhere here. I have a half dozen in and around my yard. Some are 4 ft in diameter. They grow all over in WV near creeks or anywhere damp. You can see there white bark in the winter all over the mountains.

    I love how you did the video showing that you have full knowledge and confidence in your skill of using the saw mill. Looked great while doing it. Although just try to remember safety over beauty dear. If the saw hit something and broke or a piece of wood kicked those pants would not protect you much. But amazing video regardless.

    Matt Cremona cuts through small metal pieces like those all the time, and it doesn't seem to harm his saw, the blades may get a bit dinged up but if you get a lab you can sell for a bunch of slabs you can sell for a few hundred dollars a piece...

    • @davidnelson9775
      @davidnelson9775 Рік тому +1

      I’ve watched plenty of Matt’s videos and and sometimes they blades do get ruined. He had switched to carbide tipped blades that will saw through just about anything, like the log stop post of his mill! Those woodmizer 15 blades are relatively cheap.
