    I have followed your technique with a batch that I found not superfatted enough. I used 30% of the oils weight in rebatch soap and superfatted to desire the fresh batter recipe and it went incredibly well and in the final product we couldn t identify the rebatched soap. They perfectly melted with the soap batter that was basically the same but more superfatted. I really thank you for saving my soaps!!!! ❤❤

    Another wonderful video. 😊I do rebatching for my soaps that well didn't exactly go as planned in the pretty department and I do love my crockpot. I will say for those who don't exactly like the chunky consistency must try cutting very small in size or you will have large chunks that will not melt down properly. I enjoy the look of a chunky rebatch crockpot soap because of the natural look of it the rocky element that it gives makes me think if nature itself which is the direction all of my soaps lean towards among all of my other items I carry. A double boiler works well too if you have enough patience.

  • @ljc675
    @ljc675 3 роки тому +17

    Beautiful video and I thought the soap looked lovely. Just a slight concern with it being called rebatch rather than confetti soap. People often use rebatch to fix a soap that went wrong, we often see advice given in forums to people who have maybe accidentally left out an oil so their soap is lye heavy, they're told to rebatch it and add in the missing oil. Or a soap seized so ended up a mess or even with lye pockets in it. In these cases using that 'wrong soap' with this method wouldn't be safe as a full hot method to melt everything down (and add in the extra oil if necessary) would be needed to correct that.
    I know that's probably not the type of soap you were aiming at, but the term rebatch would imply to less experienced soapers that this was an acceptable method for solving those problems when it wouldn't.
    I hope you don't mind my comment. I do think it was a beautiful soap

    • @tellervo.
      @tellervo.  3 роки тому +33

      Thank you for your comment. I understand, however I don’t see why rebatching good soap couldn’t also be called rebatching. This is obviously not the method to use with lye heavy soap, I will add a disclaimer on that. I don’t think this is a confetti soap since the end product is very different. People often wonder what they could do with perfectly good leftover soap and this video is for those people❤

      @@tellervo. - Folks rebatch "good" soap all the time, it isn't always about fixing a soap that has too much or too little Lye. Maybe soap has lost it's scent or the colorant faded, morphed or just didn't turn out the way you wanted. And it isn't always about fixing anything either...you can actually buy pre-shredded unscented, uncolored soap (BrambleBerry sells regular and goat milk shreds). It's a great alternative for folks who don't want to hassle with Sodium Hydroxide, but also don't want to make M&P.
      But in order to 'rebatch' a soap...you have to remelt it. You do this by first grating the soap into shreds, putting it in a slow cooker or double-boiler on the stove, adding liquid...usually Distilled Water, and applying heat. All you did was grate the soap and then added the shreds to CP Soap...that's called "Confetti Soap".
      Confetti Soap refers to bars that contain shreds of previously made batches. And as with Rebatch, it has evolved...it's gone from folks recycling their trimmings and putting it in a white soap to using it as a design element. A few months back I made a soap to resemble Brach's Neapolitan Coconut Sundaes. To replicate the 'coconut', I made a small batch of unscented white soap and shredded it and then added to each layer. I've seen white soap used in blue to make 'snow', or in black soap to make 'stars'. And you don't have to use 'shreds' to make a Confetti Soap...you can simply chop up a soap into different size bits/chunks, or cut it into different size squares or chop up extruded soap dough.
      Now I do agree that the end product looks different. Hot Process/Rebatched Soap has a very unique appearance, which is why I was so quick to click on your like...your 'rebatch' looked like Cold Process Soap and so I thought you had invented some new process. But once I saw you add the shredded soap to a new batch of soap, I knew it wasn't. And even though you used the same dark colorant and stick blended the shreds, you can still see them in your soap...it's just the nature of the beast.

    Hi Sara, I have a question regarding your calculations. You mentioned that we could use our regular cp soap recipe and add 30% of our shredded soap for this method; although not stated, I’m assuming we are to deduct the 30% we’re adding from the TOW of the new soap recipe? So, 70% new soap oils + 30% shredded old soap= 100% ? Am I correct in my assumption? Otherwise, there’s no way to calculate for the mold we’re using. Thank you!

I don’t always share them, especially if the video is about showing a technique. When I make ‘how to’ videos on a specific soap or additive I always share detailed recipes. But I do encourage every soap maker to learn about fatty acids and how to formulate your own recipes. This way you can learn how different oils and fats perform in soap and you get a better understanding of what you like. If you can grate your soap, it should be fine to rebatch. Fresher soap is easier to grate. I would not discount my water in rebatch in an older soap.
