What Happens When You Run 1 Mile a Day for 30 Days?

  • Starting May 1st I ran a mile a day for 30 days straight. Ran with the wifey as well!
    It sucked in the beginning, especially being a lifter for so many years and having not ran for a majority of the past few years. It was fun getting back into it. Mid way through it definitely got easier.
    I was inspired to do this by a coach I use to work with, shout out to Coach Pierre, who actually did this for a whole year!
    Results: Improved my mile time by almost 2 minutes, lost a 1lb, improved my body comp and kick started my habit of doing more things outdoors instead of always lifting. Would highly recommend anyone to give it a try.
    Days 1 - 30 from 0:30 - 7:59
    What happens explained at 8:00
    Shoes I used (I also have wide feet) : amzn.to/307QtOf
    Watch I used to track my miles: amzn.to/2XXvhI1

    I used to do 3 miles a day with a long run on the weekends to complete every month with over 120+ miles a month when I was in the Marines. Starting again today, 3 a day, long run on the weekends and maybe a rest day in between lol That sounds about right, we all have 20 minutes in our day to walk a mile or just wake up earlier!!

    This is a good way to illustrate how quickly your body adapts to endurance exercises....your time improved drastically in 30 days....
    But you lose the adaptation just as fast if you qere to take a month off.

    Congrats on completing the challenge ! Tbh I was expecting and hypothesizing more weight loss , but I guess there are a lot of other factors to consider like training/running intensity, diet, etc. great vid and thx for sharing !

      Yep. Running a mile a day for 30 days won't lead to much weight loss. If you look at the rough math there's around 3,500 calories in a pound of fat. Running a mile burns maybe 100 calories if that. Probably less. If you eat just a maintenance consistently for 30 days and run 1 mile a day to burn 100 or calories a day at the end of the month you've burned an excess of around 3,000 calories which may be little less than a pound. Tracking calories is one way to manage you're eating but one of the biggest things you can get out of it is developing better habits. This is why a ton of people may lose a lot of weight if they do a ton a cardio but you need to be consistent if you want to keep the excess weight off. When you develop solid habits consistently instead of trying to kill yourself in workouts all the time THEN you start seeing real results.

    People forget that running/cardio or any workout by itself is not going to make you shed weight like crazy without a proper diet. Glad you mentioned that you were on top of your eating. Running is my LEAST favorite thing to do, EVER! Until I injured myself lifting and now, I have to do stuff other than lifting which includes some mild running -_-
    Great way to get started on something new and finding the positives that come out of it. I might give this a shot!

    • @HyperStrengthConditioning
      @HyperStrengthConditioning  4 роки тому

      I'm not a big fan of running either which why I wanted to try it to see if it would change my mind. I'm actually finding myself WANTING to get out and run for a bit now. Its nuts. I always tell my clients you can't out workout a horrible diet so when they actually start dialing in their nutrition WHILE keeping up with their programming their results become INSANE!

    • @ricardotorreblanca1269
      @ricardotorreblanca1269 3 роки тому +1

      You don’t gotta diet to lose weight you just gotta cut the portion but you can eat whatever you want I went from 210 to 175 by doing basketball and kept my same eating touting just hustled at basketball

    • @HyperStrengthConditioning
      @HyperStrengthConditioning  3 роки тому

      @@ricardotorreblanca1269 True. You don't necessarily need to diet to cut weight. For our athletes competing in MMA or Lifting Meets a proper water cut can shed 10l bs in a few days before weigh in. To lose fat, keep it off and have everything running well within your body for a majority of your life span will require WAY more attention to your diet. I use diet in a sense of the way you eat that's most efficient to you but at the same time at its healthiest form. You don't need to follow a fad diet to lose weight but you do need to pay attention to what you're eating on a daily basis if you want to be a finely tuned active human.

    • @HyperStrengthConditioning
      @HyperStrengthConditioning  4 роки тому +3

      Ankle Mobility drills and icing when it gets too much. I'll be posting more videos to address this very topic sir. Look at your shoe type too. I have wide feet so the tech trainers I had on worked well cause the have a wide toe box. I also strike fore foot which helps with my PF and chin splints. I also took my time on a majority of the runs and didn't try to ALWAYS set a new PR.

      Stretch your calves often. Tight calves pull toes down which means you pull them up as you run without realising it. This strains the muscles in your shin.
