One small, irrelevant detail I love is that after Bojack signs away his place on Horsin' Around, the ending credits no longer play "Back in the 90's" because he was no longer on that famous TV show
thats a solid easter egg
i’m confused by this. what do you mean
@@elanadeshina7521 Because of a scandal Bojack signs away his place on Horsin' Around, so the show is renamed Around, Bojack is removed etc. In the end credits of every episode until then, the first line is: "Back in the 90's, I was in a very famous tv-show". Referring to Horsin' Around. Bojack isn't in the show anymore, so the line is false, so it isn't played after he signs his place away in the following episodes.
(please correct me if something I said is wrong)
How did I not notice that
They have a lot of details like that in the series, pretty much in ever layer the show is perfect
i still can’t believe that they kept the hollywoo joke for the hole show
Got to love continuity

this show is completely underrated. it perfectly shows how mental illness, addiction, fame, and depression can affect so many different types of people in different ways, all while still having some funny/uplifting moments. definitely one of the best shows i’ve ever seen in my life.
Not just that, he represents the live perfectly too. The show don´t go with the normals plot, or the normal hero saga, Bojack do the right things sometimes, do really bad things sometimes, really good things happens with him and pretty bad things too, and -like the real live- even though that things that he does affects his live there are a lot of things that just happens because by good/bad lucky.
I would argue that this was the greatest television comedy of the previous decade. Given his role on the greatest television comedy of the decade before that, does this make Will Arnett the stealth greatest television comedic actor of the century so far?
wvu05 if not that, the most underrated and unnoticed television actor of the decade

3:48 one of the writers confirmed that he did in fact hear what he said. Bojack scooting closer to the tv was meant to be him trying to block out the fighting and focusing on the message "never stop running", which is a big part of who Bojack is as a character, he runs from his problems.
The short timeline:
Bojack childhood

The sad life
Nah there was that time in between his childhood and his debut on Horsin Around where him and herb were working hard going to comedy clubs trying to hit it big in Hollywood. That was probably the happiest part of bojacks life too.

Man, that letter from Hollyhock :(( the fact that there was no explosive argument between them, no closure whatsoever. Just a letter that read "I never want to speak to you again" and no other interaction, maybe for the rest of their lives, really hurt me deep down.
Me too and it hurts more because its a reflection of reality. We seldom get closure in real life.
I didn't like hollyhock in general anyway. So i guess it's better that way.
@@femmyfabrice9649 In a way, she was selfish and judgemental but also fragile and sympathetic
Yeah, closure is like a tv or movie thing. In life we rarely get closure on anything. If we do, it just lingers and is used as a weapon to hurt us.

It would have been unfitting as the show constantly criticises other shows for doing exactly that. Just think how every time they mention horsin around they say that in the end of each episode everything goes back how it was, and they also mention how the last seasons were bad.
In this show however everything changes. The characters go trough a huge change. And everything has consequences.
that episode deserves an oscar of its own tbh
Kinda glad it ended as a masterpiece and didn't exist too long to become stale
True. It did seem like the goal was nine seasons, so I would have liked to have seen it go out on its own terms (and as an active union member, I am _furious_ that unionization played a role in its premature demise). However, I prefer a show that ended too soon and got to end to a show that stuck around too long.
I initially felt unfulfilled by the ending then I realized it ties so perfectly in with everything else.
"Closure is something made up by Stephen Spielberg to sell movie tickets".
Just like real life, we didn't get the "closure" we imagined from this show, and I'm glad they didn't cheap out with a then he died kind of ending.
apparently they where planing to do this many seasons, the director was asked on twitter and said they decided that before they unionized, although it wouldn't surprise me if netflix didn't like that and could have an impact in other waya
I agree but season six part 2 seemed rushed.
I think 7 seasons for a show is a good run.
I'm glad it didn't devolve into Family Guy
“The only way out is through” this quote really resonates with me. I need to rebinge this show
I've been rewatching it slowly after binging everything when season 6 came out. I thought i wouldn't cry this time, but I'm only on season 3 and have cried multiple times. This show is truly special.
Yes you do! There were so many jokes and quips that I missed because I was watching the show while cooking or talking to my bf.
I was due to get that tattooed before covid hit. Really what I tell myself when the depression hits.
“We’re going on a bear hunt...”
I've binged it 8 times
A show that probably will leave a permanent stain in my memory, I don’t think I will ever forget this show. Not just because of the incredible writing and the lovable (debatable) cast of characters, but it also helped me through a series of self realizations of myself that propelled me into, possibly, a better future for myself. The show, I feel, specifically ignited a spark in me, an introspective spark, something that defines my own personality, to myself and others, that I will probably carry on with the rest of my life. I can’t say this is a show for everyone, but it was definitely a show for me
Absolutely perfect.
I'm a therapist and my clients frequently reference the show. They are sometimes surprised that I know it well. I may be a therapist but I'm not an idiot -- it's a great show. And if you're telling yourself that this show helped your mental health, I say great; but maybe you improved your own mental health, and the show facilitated the process. Keep it up.
stop the cap, you’re just a kid
I'm curious. As a legit therapist (to my knowledge) what are your thoughts on this show? Therapist wise.
You forgot that the movie about mr peanutbutter stealing the D got turned into a bimonthly curated box of snacks.

@@trafficcontrol2420 Yes, but 'bimonthly' can mean twice a month *or* every other month. Therein lies the joke
It's funny how curated snack subscriptions are a thing now for real.
I think Bojack's mother passing was when he really started spiralling in season 5, surprised you did not mention the funeral episode and how poorly Bojack dealt with Beatrice's death afterwards.
One of the best episodes of the show
In the end he does mention the episode by it's name 'Free Churro' as one of the best in the show.
To this day I'm convinced that if Beatrice treated him even marginally better before she passed, BoJack would have made at least ONE positive choice. But I love how the show doesn't give anyone closure (the audience or the characters). It just keeps spiraling, and I would argue that if BoJack had died himself in the end, it would have been a bit of a cop out. At least it shows how people just have deal with their consequences and keep on living.
"Ruthie" actually hit hard, it's one of my favorite episodes. When Princess Carolyn reveals that Ruthie isn't real and uses it as a coping mechanism, it became a relatable episode. That's where the show really hooked me in.
So, apparently the creator talks about how when Bojack is watching Secretariat as a kid he’s actually only able to hear the advice and internalized it for the rest of his life . He blocked out his parents.
This show is an unspoken masterpiece. It makes you feel emotions you didnt know existed. This show made me think more about life than any philosophical piece ever could. It handles death and drugs and scandal in a realistic yet cartoonish way.
This is the most realistic show that I ever saw.
@PersonaX still underrated
The most realistic show about a talking horse. Thats saying something
Absolute masterpiece of a show. Really helped through some tough times.
Some Brother this show it really was something else i’m really depressed than canceled it dude :(
This show was practically my therapy. I’m sure we all were going on our journey’s just as Bojack was
That is a show that really mess with me, besides the fact that he is deep and real, it's made in a way that we pretty much live the show. Is really easy to go really in to the show, even though it's a show that break pretty much every normal plot that we see in other shows.
Me too. I love this show
I don't think we realize how sad some of us truly are. Depression doesn't look the same on everyone and this show displays that.
I wish people would stop saying that Bojack ruined his parents lives. Bojack never asked to be born, he never asked Beatrice or Butterscotch to put their lives on hold, and it was ultimately irresponsible of Beatrice to bring Bojack into the world because she could never unpack a traumatic childhood memory. I understand why she never did as our understanding of mental health back then was poor, but that doesn't make it okay for her to project HER personal failings onto her son, and it was never fair for Butterscotch to blame him either.
Bojack did NOT ruin his parents' lives. They ruined their own lives by bringing a baby into the world when they were emotionally and financially incapable of doing so and fundamentally incompatible with eachother, and they proceeded to ruin their son's life as well.
“He’s a zebra in this episode don’t worry about it”
This show is great
A show that actually really spoke to me, which you would never think when you look at the art style and the concept.
And then you actually watch it.

Free Churro, Times Arrow and The View From Halfway Down hit really hard. Free Churro especially made me rethink my relationship with my parents.

The end of free churro was kinda funny
@@kanyesouth6206 yep, it's my big 3 also :)
i really enjoyed these quotes
1. You know I don't do the whole love thing. Either you end up hurting someone or they hurt you. So, what's the point?
2. Maybe if you're good at putting out fires, maybe you just keep running from fire to fire and don't really think about it
What about “it gets easier everyday , but you have to do it everyday that’s the hard part”
“one day, you’re gonna look around and you’re going to realize that everybody loves you, but nobody likes you. and that’s the loneliness feeling in the world.”
I read somewhere that the Bojack did hear what secretariat said to him, he moved his seat forward and turns up the volume to block out what his parents were arguing about. He internalized that message because it’s the first time someone really spoke to him and recognized how he felt. And he took that advice to heart, which is why he hurts people and never truly turns back to apologize and make up for what he’s done
I really am depressed the show got canceled but I’m really happy that they let them have a final season this show helped me through so much in my life it was an amazing five year journey.
ShatOnYourSteak although it was cancelled, the show still had another 4-6 seasons left in it. But it was cancelled by netfilx
ShatOnYourSteak I agree with your sentiment but that’s not the facts even Aaron Paul the voice of Todd confirmed that they were going to do more seasons. + they had an ultimate plan on how they’re going to finish the show. But Netflix gave them a heads up that they’re going to cancel the show so they rushed to make a decent ending. I personally would love to see more from the world and characters and I still am very devastated that they canceled it:( that show is beyond special to me ):
pat the rick I believe the original plan was to do 9 seasons i’m not 100% sure but they definitely wanted to do more seasons:( but Bojack and Tuca and Bertie had some drama with the union thing so they canceled both shows luckily tuca and birdie got picked up
Yeah bro, could be so much more. I complete agreed that the show could had more sesons and more things to say, but even with this premature ending I still belive that the end was perfect.
I’m just glad they all forgave eachother at the end

I love how in “The View From Half Way Down” it takes BoJack EXACTLY 18 minutes to notice he’s drowning. This is the same amount of time he waited until calling 911 for Sarah Lynn. That’s powerful.
i believe it was 17 minutes for sarah lynn but i’m pretty sure the writers still meant to do that, good observation :)
One of my favorite shows of all time. I spent many nights with Bojack - the show validated my suffering and my depression. We suffered and grieved and survived together

I’m glad Diane could forgive and view him as a friend at the end despite his mistake.
The funny thing is I've been watching this show ever since it started airing and I've enjoyed every painstaking bit of it even though some of it made me depressed and some of it may be angry and then some of it made me laugh it was a roller coaster of emotions that I thought I'd never feel in my life
@Troko Harry Yeah bro, the show represents live perfectly. I like the fact that a lot of good or bad things on the show just happen by chance and in the same way a lot of things and characters grow are a result of a lot things that happen a long the show, an result not just by one factor but a lot. That really made me see this like a real thing, and that is what made me conect so deeply in to the show.

Bojack Horseman honestly is one of the best written shows...probably ever. Free Churro was the best monologue ever delivered by someone, the view from halfway down was the greatest callback episode ever, and the show somehow manages to perfect a form of anxiety and discomfort that I've never had before. The last scene with Bojack and Diane has so much in the two's silence.
Great writing
I just wanted to mention that in the view from Halfway down, secretariat had the voice of his father. They had a conversation where he told him how he felt about his father and other serious topics. Bojack was told by him that he was drowning in his pool in fact. Sorry if I was wrong about anything, I just remember that vividly 😅
When this TV show first came out I thought it was an animated funny tv show but then it got dark and that’s weirdly what I like
Gotta say, I never would have made the connection that Bojack would be a good teacher (and possibly future director), but actually there are mutliple times where he proves to be really good in this niche. Ie: when he sets up the plan to get that forbidden secretariat shot, when he gives brad advice on the horsin’ around revival, when he criticizes flip’s writing in philbert, etc. Seed well planted
Another relevant fact, since your timeline covers births and deaths, is that Butterscotch Horseman dies in a duel the same day BoJack meets Diane for the first time and Todd moves in with him. BoJack finds out about his father's death during his 2009 Halloween party.

This is seriously my *favorite* show of all time. I have binge-watched it time and time again, and fall even harder than before. To me, I seem to be a good mix between both BoJack and Diane when it comes to my depression. I have tried time and time again, just like both of them, to get rid of it. Nothing seems to work. Pills... Nothing. However, things started to look up for me when I watched this show for the first time. And, somehow, it keeps getting better and better every time that I restart it. This is the best show that I could’ve ever asked for. For an animation that seemingly was supposed to be humorous in the beginning, it is totally realistic (even with the talking animals, hah!) and fascinating.
hold on! at 8:20 you talk about bojack being wasted and not remembering diane because thats just classic bojack, but at the halloween party in 2009 where he's holding the phone and diane introduced herself, he's literally on the phone with his mom finding out his dad died, so i don't think in that case it's entirely fair
Bruh this made me depressed but it made me understand the situation i was in and helped me move on.
I’ve been waiting for this since the day I was born
He never mentioned the part when Bojack makes a girl go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning
Good recap but not a very good timeline. It was early 2020 when the Sarah Lynn story broke, not 2019 (Bojack started teaching at Hollyhock’s school after she came back from winter break) and a few months later in mid 2020 Bojack gets sent to prison, then a year later in mid 2021 is when Princess Carolyn’s wedding happened.

I have a special love/hate relationship with Diane she reminds me of the worst parts i hate about myself that i don't want to face. It really makes you take a step back and rethink your decisions.
3:48 interesting detail but the shows creator actually confirmed that BoJack did hear the advice and he moves closer to the television to visualize how deeply he internalizes that advice to keep running forward.
one of my friends kept telling me how deep and complicated this show was and implored me to watch it. i took zero interest but wanted to be nice so i watched the first episode. didn’t care for it. then i finished the whole first season, and i still wasn’t into it but didn’t wanna be rude. i didn’t care to actually take the time to understand the show for what it truly was. something clicked in the middle of season 2 once i realized how interesting and well written bojack’s character was. im so glad i forced myself to sit thru season 1 despite not even liking it. so glad i never abandoned this show. it really is one of those shows that is utterly complex and you don’t recognize it until you truly watch it in depth

@@AgentKryos You have to go back a year to find another video under 100k. I think that just shows how big the Steven Universe fandom is compared to We Bare Bears. Tumblr weirdos love it and make a million videos on it, and any time somebody watches one of those, it's likely that video got recommended to people. Also didn't help that it was their 2nd to last video, if somebody watches the latest video, other recent videos from the channel are likely to show up in recommend boxes.
