Isn't it easier to use stain or varnish of the desired color instead of engraving?

You are correct that using a stain or a varnish will produce contrast, but it will not show the same texture and grain effect, creating a completely different look and feel.

so you created a stained-wood effect without using stain? incredibly odd.

You are correct that using a stain will produce contrast, but it will not provide the same texture and grain effect; this method creates an entirely different look and feel than traditional stained wood, and this look cannot be reproduced any other way.

I find that the cost of material is far lower than the cost of the laser time. So if you asked me to produce any of those I would have used two different species of wood, or stained on sheet for the contrast. But the time to engrave over at500dpi seems like such a waste.

You are correct that using a stain or another wood species will produce contrast, but that will not show the same texture and grain effect, creating a completely different look and feel. After all, exceptional quality yields exceptional returns.

The only hack in this video is the one talking through it. Stop using the word "hack" when you mean to say "process". It makes you sound ridiculous.
