I saw bamboo shoots a couple of days ago. I started with many plants, but they slowly withered away. The ground looked good. I watered and fed them, but only one survived. After years, I found big,strong shoots everywhere. Thank the Lord.

What bothers me is that bamboo doing exactly what it's meant to do is being called a miracle. The "moral" of the story would be just as obvious & effective (maybe more so) without ever using the word miracle.

I love this story, but I hate how the narrator repeatedly refers to it as a miracle, miracle miracle. It's the culmination of years of hard work and persistence. It's 5 years of establishing a strong root system to support the growth of this amazing plant. It's not faith in a miracle, it's faith in knowledge and hard work. Calling it a miracle takes away from all that. What's important in this story is NOT that the farmer toiled hopelessly just hoping that maybe he would get lucky and and miraculously the plant would just appear! The farmer had a plan, and a goal.
