It takes only two years to grow and harvested unlike trees it takes longer. Another advantage is it doesn't need replanting since shoots grows unlimited. Quite fascinating and truly a solution for our reforestation.

I grow 10+ acres of bamboo on my farm, it not only generates a good income but is also good for the soil as well as the leaves it sheds creates a forest like area and provide organic matter to the soil.

@@chikiwiki0807 So cool! I am planting bamboo as soon as I move to my house in April! I always am on the lookout for yards with bamboo and see if I can get some. Most of the time they let me have all I want, But I never mind paying them cause it's usually not much they ask, but will be nice to have my own and to sell some of it and use for my artwork!

Just for the record bamboo has been growing in the southeastern United States for millions of years. When the Europeans arrived they had no use for it so they cut it down - most of it. See Zweybrucken Road, Yorktown, Virginia. The bamboo hammock visible from the road used to be much larger. They trimmed it back I think because it was a bit intimidating and they put a footpath through the middle of it. The footpath makes a nice shortcut to the battlefield visitor's center.

not to mention that when acidified with glacial acetic acid(essentially concentrated vinegar), you can make a themoplastic from the cellulose fibers(cellulose acetate) from the bamboo that can also be softened and dissolved in acetone. this is the stuff that was supposed to replace silk, cotton, all fabrics in the early 1900s, but was stopped by silk investors.

Bamboo is a C4 plant, so requires direct sunlight to grow. That limits its distribution. The fibre is usable in just the same way as any fibre, but its processing is much the same as paper, using sodium hydroxide and carbon disulphide.

In some areas it is wise to use clumping, rather than running, bamboo. The cold weather running bamboo can be difficult to control in hot climates . But there and a huge variety of bamboos that clump and have all the same benefits commercially and environmentally.

This video predicted the future... It's 2023 and bamboo sheets are ubiquitous! But bamboo usage is still at the beginning stage. Bamboo provides so much for human, from shelter, to clothing, to food; everything we essentially need to survive in this world. Bamboo could be the key for us to begin the process of healing the Earth. I hope in a hundred years, we human will find a way to replace plastic, I believe that it will be significantly due to this incredible grass.

There are some varieties growing in Western Washington State.
My mom had it taking over her 1/2 acre on the high desert in S. CA, in which she created “fairy forest settings”.
She liked the thin kind, that grows about 10’ tall.
When she got moved up north w/us, she brought a clump of her bamboo with her, & simply stuck it into a 12” pot half-filled w/dirt.
That was mostly set in the shade, too, but had moisture.
In 6 years, it had tightly filled that 12” pot.
Now, it fills a 30” pot by our fence, only limited by the tough pot it is in.
I’ve cut some from other wild clumps in another yard & started them growing in 2 other 30” pots.
Planning on making more plastic 6” or 8” pipe planters or narrow trash can planters, to put a row of bamboo along our long fencelines for privacy, & trellising other plants, & for use as food, etc.
What was surprising, was how many supposedly viable cuttings failed to thrive.
I think that was due to getting too little water from a faulty drip system, before they’d grown enough roots to survive.
What might be needed, with all the growth in bamboo products, is a business that selectively thins & harvests residential bamboos, to profit the homeowner’s bamboo, too! Leave enough to still grow more, just thin it out. Kinda like lumber businesses have been doing.

Bamboo is everything for us in our traditional way of living... We use bamboo for almost everything... For food, for cooking(utensils), ropes, basket, fuel, umbrella, boats(raft), tool( hunting, agricultural as well as domestic), fence, bridges etc
We even live in houses built purely of bamboo (walls, floor ,door, windows, roofs etc...
We, the Adi tribe of Arunachal Pradesh can't imagine even 1% of our traditional way of life without bamboo...
NB: having a bamboo grove near your homes is like having a mosquito heaven.

Honestly, we should move away from our reliance on trees and switch to bamboo which can be just as sturdy, but far easier to grow and replenish. With Bamboo, we don't have to worry about deforestation as we can let the trees regrow and use bamboo forests for everything, from paper, to furniture, building materials, etc. We can use it for cups, replace plastic with it, and never have to worry about it running out with how easy it is to regrow, how quickly it regrows (leave it alone for a month and it'll produce the same amount of material it would take 10 years to get from trees), and it'll help out the environment.

Bamboo fabric used with banana plant cellulose sponge with an aluminum scandium frame. Both the fabric and the sponge treated with water activated ceramic. Prefabricated homes were people can order on line then have the prefabricated home delivered to site were the pieces can be lever latch locked together. The foundation being bamboo fabric with a thick core of banana plant cellulose sponge that has holes for plumming. Foundation shipped in it's pressed vacumed sealed package. Two gallon's of hot water is slowly poured into the top of a container connected to the pressed foundation. Water is absorbed by the sponge and bursts the packaging then rises and exspand's that then dries rock hard in 24 hour's. Then wall panels can be attached to foundation and to each other all the way up to the roof all being lever latch locked into place. Two people set up requiring no tool's. Then hose the whole structure down with water to activate the ceramic and let it dry snd cure rock hard in 48 hour's drying and curing times will vary depending on the environment. What do you think about this use of bamboo and plant cellulose to build home's? Could even order bamboo curtains bamboo rugs bamboo doors bamboo storm shutters bamboo floors all on line and all shipped to the individual who ordered their new home. I have other idea's if you are interested lets have a chat. 😊
