- February 17th 2024, was going to see two massive events happening in the Middle East. Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia and the Finishers Championships in Qatar. Both events promised huge money but the two have now been cancelled/postponed? We talk about it all in this video.

I for one am glad this nonsense is finally done and am not in the slightest disappointed. Lots of exciting SM comps to look forward and focus on, without the distraction of fight hype that was just going to be a shit show anyway if it went ahead.

I like MMA in its own right. This desire for strongmen competitors to crossover to MMA diminishes their achievements in Strongman. They are not trained to be fighters and part of the appeal of Strongman is the camaraderie between competitors. I have no desire to see them fight eachother. It cheapens the sport if competitors start calling eachother out to fight. The focus should be on funding tournaments rather than funding fights.

I was one of the guys who initially thought this was gonna happen. But of course, it looked more and more like: ''Prince of Nigeria invites you to fighting tournament'' 😂

What I would like to see though is a strongman Sumo tournament in the japanese style. That would be fun to watch.

The thing about middle eastern money is the same as with any money: at some point you'll have to get that money back. A company might secure a big chunk of VC investment and splurge on pointless things but as soon as the investors want roi, it'll go down.
I was hoping these guys would get the big payday, but im glad its not happening. For the strongman and Martin Ford. Them big guys getting hurt by another big guy could've been life changing.

It was sus from the start. Unfortunate that some of the athletes actually took it seriously and put a lot of money into training for this event just for it to fall through.
No surprise. It was never realistic . Too much £ . Same night as the Big Boxing Bout. Which will not go ahead. Well it will but not now.

This fight will definitely happen on May 18th. Did anyone really believe that Fury would fight Usyk after a 5 week training camp? That may have been the original plan but Opetai may have made TF realize that's not feasible.
There is a possibility make-up may have been applied to give the appearance that Fury sustained a cut when in fact he did not. After all, if he was badly cut, he would not have agreed to the new date of May 18th.
Hope they got a few quid up front.

From what i saw on his social media he did minimum training for the finishers championship, so I'll say that it won't effect his performance in Arnold Classic and other competition.

The UAE is a theme park with too much money to throw about but no one wants to actually go out there. MMA and Strongman has beens are not household names, not enough care. The UAE doesn't have the prestige of Monaco or Singapore. Instagram influencers and Onlyfans are the only people that give these places covered. There's no business senes behind these hype shows. Most fall flat.
Agree. FYI it was going to take place in Qatar NOT UAE, which is even less prestige as Doha (Qatar) is a less known, less glamorous sister of Dubai (UAE)

I think it's a few months away, but no idea how long it would take to set things up for an MMA match
though the people running worlds Strongest Man competition are also the ones that own UFC, so they could jump in since the guys have been training already
And they've all trained for it already (except Hooper, maybe?), so would be cool if they got to use all the training they've spent time and money on
