probably the funniest fish tank vid ive seen in a while. he has all the same knowhow as the other fish guys on yt but the personality and presentation of a talk show host lol good stuff

YES! Correct, I bought 6 green tiger barbs and 3 died. Barbs are very hardy fish, but go back to store to find out the day I bought them they had just arrived. So, even hardy fish can get too stressed with shipment.
Glad your loving it and making it happen for yourself. My biggest tip is customer service. My store has people driving past other ones in the chain simply because of customer service!
I was wondering about your fish aquarium setup. Do you have any videos that I could use and share on my channel. I love posting vids of fish tanks and sharing them.

Thanks!!! Awesome tips! Have my tropical 29g tank for 9 months now and its doing great! Thanks a lot to your videos! Thinking of doing a planted 55g. Will have to get some beginner advice from ya! Maybe you could do a video on it. 55g planted starter tank! Would be awesome! Thanks again! Mac.
great tips! first was a killer for me in the beginning, i dident know all the tanks shared water when we first started, probably could have prevented a few outbreaks of ich :(
I was always told never to open the bag till your ready to put the fish in. This is because when you open the bag the ph crashes and the carbon from the fish imediaty turns to ammonia right away. That's what the king of diy says anyways...idk
Dustin, I love the Apistogramma man! I know this is a mad old video and shit, but I had to shout out to you about it man. Love it dude. Thanks for the tips!!
I learned the hard way to transfer my fish with a net after adding tank water to their bag. Hey I really want an answer with this question, how did you go about importing those fish from piru, my mother takes trips to Cuba and I've been wondering if there is anything special you did to import the fish?
great tips dustin, i got yesterday a pearl gurami and its been 24 hours and he only swims in one corner of the aquarium, doesnt eat either, what can i do?
I'm going to ask the store owner to feed the fish next time I go to buy some. Sounds like good advice to me. :) If I may ask a question: I have a 20 gallon long tank, and I have one 18 watt fluorescent bulb over it (it's a long tube bulb, I forgot what those are called...A strip light?) I have java ferns and anubias that are doing pretty well, but every clump of java moss I put in the tank dies after a month or two. I always tie it loosely to a piece of driftwood. However, I also have a little 3-gallon cherry shrimp tank with a regular old twisted 9-watt fluorescent bulb lamp over it and some java moss in it that is absolutely thriving. It's growing so much that I will need to take a few handfuls out soon! And I started this little java jungle with a tiny clump about three or four months ago. I was under the impression that java moss didn't need any special lighting, but my better-lit tank is clearly sustaining it better. Should I just add a better light to my 20 long, or could something else be amiss in this tank? I would love to have some pretty moss growing in it...
Gotta quarantine fish when from one of the "p" stores. Ich and parasites are rampant there and often dont show for at least the first week. When I can, I treat for parasited right off the bat. I mean, if we do this to dogs and cats, why not fish? Helps them in the long run.
2:35 i had those loaches! (bottom right) mine were so adorable since they'd swim underneath some of my ornaments to hide. it was adorable. then they died of ick and i was sad :(
Great video Im sure it will really help a lot of people new to the hobby, hopefully if I go to the CAFE convention I will be able to meet you, btw Greater Cincinnati Aquarium Society is having a swap meet Feb.8 and their big Spring Auction Mar.8. You can message me if you want details..
hey man. I just received a shipment of snails from you that had Java moss. only two snails didn't make it. not mad though. one concern though. I see some shrimp like critters, and some round swimmy really small critters. can you tell me what they are?
Cool, i've never poured the water directly into my tank, and now i know why :). Also the plants i bought you are doing great!!! well except the jungle val, they died. Other than that everything else is alive. Thanks for the plants Dustin!
when u go and put the bag in the water don't fold it over the rim of the tank as it cuts off oxygen exchange instead roll the top of the bag in on itself so the top is open
some of my fish looked very unhealthy when i first got them lol. they all look great now. i got to stop pouring the dirty water in my tank and start doing net releases lol. i always put tank water in the bag and dump them in and never had an issue. i usually dont freak out if my new fish dont eat the first day since they are in a new environment, they are going to be scared. if they still arent eating by the 3rd day, i freak out.
Dude love the bag trick! It's not fish , but shrimps that I bought from a local fish store, and I broken the golden rule and pour their water into my tank and BAM! Planaira (flat worms) and set my shrimp tank back 3 months , and I'll never be able to 100 percent Be able to get rid of them UNLESS I start all over with just the shrimps , and new everything else... Went back and look at their tank , sure enough a ton of flat worms , n worst part is , even they didn't notice those worms! I had to point it out to them.
hum yes if the tank is not big enough mister! those green terror are usually reall mother fuckers and those oscars can be tromatised potatoes some times... guet a 125 and more ... at 125gallons they are not full sized
You can also do drip acclimation, its easier and takes awhiile but less stressful for the fish.also to cut down on fish.try to put new fish in when the lights are off. Look at my video 19 called DRIP ACCLIMATION.
lol I do not know if I am crazy or not.... but when I go buy schooling fishes (tetras, rasboras, etc)... I tend to want to pick individual ones out of the tank. I remember I bought three Harlequin Rasbora's once and the salesman just netted three random rasboras... one of them I did not want b/c it had a deformed tail... So, 7th TIP! If you are a picky person and you want to pick out fishes from the school of fishes in their sale tanks! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!! shoot they still getting paid regardless. So just do it!
here's another tip when buying fish: hold your hand in top of the tank like you're about to feed them. if the fish is new, they will get scared and swim away. if they have been in the store for a while (acclimated) they will swim towards your hand thinking its feeding time. the friendlier the fish, the longer it has been in the store. of course this does not work with every spices. one of the sure ones this trick will work is with goldfish, oscar, guppies, angel fish.
Great tips. I wish I'd seen this before buying the plague from Petco. There were so many warning signs that I didn't know about, and I lost $600 worth of fish to some kind of terrible disease within a week. Merry Christmas from Petco, and they refuse to reimburse any of it. =( Say no to Petco.
if you lost 600$ worth of fish from a couple fish from petco then you need to do a lot of research on fish diseases and there are probably other issues goin on with ur tank
fsu23 Don't make snap decisions about people. It doesn't make you any friends. I had six discus and it wasn't any kind of disease that anyone can even tell me anything about. The closest explanation was whirling disease, which is cured only by euthanasia.
Sarai Kindred the sad part is that you put fish from Petco in with Discus.. Something doesn't add up. If you seem to know enough about aquarium's and aquarium fish to own discus and care for them, then i wouldn't ever buy from a garbage dump like petco
I'm still fucking amazed that everytime you show your aquariums, I keep remembering that you don't use Co2. Impossible, impossible, impossible, impossible, impossible, IMPOSSIBLE!!!
That is the problem with normal petshops is they will sell anyone fish, even though they obviously don't have the right equipment for it. They don't really care about the fish. People are used to that and feel entitled to getting fish and get a shock when someone refuses them lol
my local pets at home i went there cos i herd they had fish and the guy who's job it was to look after the fish on the website said he had 20 years experience so i thought they mite have some cool fish when i got there to my disgust the tanks where so dirty covered in algae and so many dead fish so when i got home i went to the companys head office website and told them to sort it out or i'll complain to the rspca you should have seen how quick they sorted it sadly i went there the other day and it's back to the way it was so i'm not gonna tell them to sort it just go straght to the rspca
@sarai kindred Then that is your fault for not quarantining your fish, especially if you have expensive and/or sensitive fish in a tank. I mean no offense but you really can't expect them to pay for your mistake.

i found clips you put on open bags of chips to clip my bags of fish to my tank, works great
great tips! especially making them feed the fish at the fish store!
Cool thanks for the tips!!! I'm getting into a big fish tank!
Thanks a lot Dustin and congrats on the job change. You'll do great obiously...your a master tanker
My LFS hooks the bag up to an air pump line, really fills the bag nicely.
Great tips and that tank looks awesome bro
Hey Dustin i find your videos very helpful. Can you make one about cleaning fish tanks?
Dustin!!! LOVE THE APISTOGRAMMA DUDE!!
Hard to find that particular species in a pet shop and when you do the price is usually fucking astronomical!
I had a LFS that would order things like that if I asked, but they had the hardest time finding that particular species.
I was always told never to open the bag till your ready to put the fish in. This is because when you open the bag the ph crashes and the carbon from the fish imediaty turns to ammonia right away. That's what the king of diy says anyways...idk
Love your videos..i got a tip for dustin...a tripod bro you're driving me nuts!
Good info man, you got nice plants.
Dustin, I love the Apistogramma man! I know this is a mad old video and shit, but I had to shout out to you about it man. Love it dude. Thanks for the tips!!

Hey Dustin quick question are the apistogramma rare fish to come across?
can't wait to buy in the spring
Great video! I live in ohio and visit RMS for most of my aquarium needs! Are there any other aquarium stores around ohio you can recommend??
great tips thanks man

MrLovelog that's because we simply don't have room for quarantine tanks (pets mart does not have enough room in store to set up 90+ quarantine tanks).
2:35 i had those loaches! (bottom right) mine were so adorable since they'd swim underneath some of my ornaments to hide. it was adorable. then they died of ick and i was sad :(

Pet supply plus in Findlay is the store I get my stuff from all the time! Still a great store.
Dustin's plants make me wish I didn't choose african cichlids.
Dustin can you PLEASE do a Species Sunday on Oscars? It'd be greatly appreciated.
Ive just got 2 baby Oscars 2 baby green terror and a jack Dempsey will they kill each other when full size
No haha, it will take them a long time to be full size, they should be used to eachotherwhen that happens
hum yes if the tank is not big enough mister! those green terror are usually reall mother fuckers and those oscars can be tromatised potatoes some times... guet a 125 and more ... at 125gallons they are not full sized
Where's the hydro tank in the basement...;) good tips..!!
If buying small fish ask the store to tape up the bag corners as the fish can get trapped
is a 20 gallon fish tank good for 2 black moor fishes ? PLEASE ANSWER
It would be fine when they are small, but once they get bigger you will need a larger tank
You can also do drip acclimation, its easier and takes awhiile but less stressful for the fish.also to cut down on fish.try to put new fish in when the lights are off. Look at my video 19 called DRIP ACCLIMATION.

Hey can you help me get wood for my 29 g tank pls
here's another tip when buying fish:
hold your hand in top of the tank like you're about to feed them. if the fish is new, they will get scared and swim away. if they have been in the store for a while (acclimated) they will swim towards your hand thinking its feeding time. the friendlier the fish, the longer it has been in the store. of course this does not work with every spices. one of the sure ones this trick will work is with goldfish, oscar, guppies, angel fish.
