    I have a FireFly from around 2017. LOVE IT. I shoot it with CCI standard velocity ammo always suppressed. At first it was a little unreliable, but as with all semi-auto guns, if you run them hard and hot a few times and deal with the failures the gun will ALMOST always loosen up and perform better. It's a natural function that the gun will "clean", polish, deburr, and remove small imperfections from machining that typically hang rounds, make slides slow, etc...NOT always instant gratification. You also have to VERY diligent about cleaning the pistol when shooting low velocity ammo suppressed - It gets SUPER dirty really fast. You gotta bust out the ole CLP and do some real cleaning EVERY time you run it more than a couple mags, otherwise they cake up.. And you're talking about a $200 pistol vs. a MKIV for $500 - of course there are quality differences. If you have continuous problems like the reviewer, I would suspect a bad mag. For the money mine has been a fun gun! enjoy.

      I think you may have just gotten lucky with yours. There are quite a few comments on here about people having issues with their pistol as well. I have put many rounds through it, with cleanings in between and even with a good fresh cleaning it still malfunctions. It just seems to be a hit and miss pistol. Some have perfection with it, some don't.

      I have had exactly the same issues as the reviewer. I have a dozen 22lr semi-auto handguns and NONE come close to the slide cycling issues this gun does--with either spring in use. This is a gun I really want to like, but I have found it to be very unreliable in cycling the round. However it really does well in regard to hitting the target in relation to shooter's skill level. Frankly, I have a reluctance to "pawn" this gun off on another buyer at any price. This gun really needs a big sticker on the box: "CAUTION Buyer Beware".
      In the alternative, I would highly recommend the Taurus TX22 and newly released Taurus TX22 Compact (my favorite), the Smith & Wesson M&P 22 Compact, the Ruger SR22, and the Ruger LCPII 22. Also, fun to shoot but not in my first tier; the Kel-Tech P17 and the Walther P22Q.

    This is the gun that introduced me to guns. It was the first pistol I've ever shot and it has been so far my favorite. I love the look of it, especially the desert color and threaded barrel. It is also a very fun gun to shoot. I am getting into shooting as more of a hobby rather than learning how to defend myself with a gun (although that is a bonus of having guns, I guess. @ArmatisReviews so I ground down the ramp and polished it off to make it smooth. Then, the firing pin wasn't striking so I took an angle grinder to the part that houses the firing pin, (with the firing pin out). Then for the mag I bought this kit offline that allows for 7 more rounds in the mag. I can send you a link if you want.

      I wonder if it is just a .22lr problem. I have a 10/22 that has the same story. Everyone talks about how great 10/22's reliability is, i guess they just need to get broken in. Because .22lr is so underpowered, it probably just takes the gun longer to get broke in.

    This is a gun that confounds me. Its actually one of the best selling 22 pistols in the world, the people who buy it rank it very highly, and on Buds Guns gun critic it receives a score of 93 from their gun critics (whoever that is) but there's almost 300 of them. Its rated higher then a g44, tauras tx44, and many others. BUT...the utube crowd just hates it. Guess I'll buy one and see. I personally think there's a problem here. The same thing is happening to the g44, which I own, and know for certain is a fine pistol. Why does a gun endear itself to its buyers, and disdain from urine reviewers? Something stinks here.

      Yeah, it's weird. I heard and read a lot of great reviews on it as well. I actually owned this pistol years ago when it was made as the Sig Sauer Mosquito. I had horrible jams with it as well and traded it in. I wouldn't have bought this FireFly except some people told me it was vastly better than the Mosquito and came with a spring for cheaper plinking lower powered ammo... But my experience with the FireFly was pretty much the same as the Mosquito. Disappointing.

      @@ArmatisReviews I hear that "trust your life" phrase a lot. With the various variables in shooting, such as the gun itself, the ammo, gun cleaning and maintenance, the shooter's skills through training and keeping the training current (therefore shot placement), and the shooter's mental state under stress....to name some variables---the poor guns, whether .22lr caliber or others, may need a break from this phrase. The shooter needs to make sure his/her mechanical part of the equation, the gun, is viable for him or her regardless of the American marketing/branding industry which is not always in direct proportion to purchase price. If in the mind of the Shooter, he/she does not "trust" the operation of the gun for whatever reason (mechanical and/or ammo), the shooter should try something else. If I had a commandment, it might be: "Know Thy Gun and Its Variables as Thy Know Thyself and Thy's Capabilities with Thy Gun". Both gun and shooter or less than perfect of course:)

    Respectfully, the majority of the videos that I've seen like this one, is because the user does not know about the lighter recoil rod spring for "standard velocity" rounds, and has the heavier and wrong recoil rod spring installed and is shooting "standard velocity" rounds. The GSG firefly has the heavy spring installed by default for "high velocity" .22LR rounds. The best brands of ammo that I've used are Remington Thunderbolts, Aquila Super Extra that has the copper jacketed noses as well as CCI Mini mags. The slide is heavy and "high velocity" .22LR is recommended with that heavier recoil rod spring. If you are going to shoot "standard velocity" then switch the recoil rod spring to the "light one" that is in the back of the foam in the case that the pistol comes in.

    • @ArmatisReviews
      @ArmatisReviews  2 роки тому

      I appreciate the respectful comment. I am aware of the different recoil springs. That is actually why I chose to give this another try (I owned the original Sig Sauer Mosquito many years ago, and had nothing but troubles with it). When I found out GSG was making their own branded version, and included a recoil spring for standard velocity ammo, I wanted to give it a try because I heard good things.
      When I was having trouble (with the standard velocity spring already installed) with the pistol originally, I thought to try the other spring (heavy) just to see if it made a different, and I still had malfunction after malfunction (with standard velocity rounds, which I understand is not designed for the heavy spring, but I wanted to try it to see if it gave me any different results).
      So, yes, I am aware of the different springs, and tried them both with plinking rounds with no joy to report.

    • @mrsmithsmith8418
      @mrsmithsmith8418 2 роки тому

      @@ArmatisReviews The only standard velocity rounds that I would shoot with the lighter spring, would be ones that were truly "matched" rounds, and those tend to be more expensive even pre-inflation... and not the bulk stuff that says matched on it. The standard velocity bulk ammo, tends to have rough lead round noses and are going to be problematic hanging up in cycling and feeding especially again when we know that this gun's slide is also heavy. There is other standard velocity rounds out there that have smooth round noses for better cycling. Geco and Fiocchi are two that I know of. What happens if you use the heavier spring with CCI mini mags and other high velocity rounds? When I use high velocity ammo that have the copper jacketed round noses, I can get very accurate hits out to 25 yards.

    So, I have had one for abut 2 yrs., put about 1k rounds through it. Seems to like most ammo, mine shoots flawlessly, always has, HOWEVER, it is real easy to misalign putting the rounds in the mag and when that happens the gun will shoot up to the misaligned round then, obviously, will not feed properly. I have watched other vids like this one and don't know what to say as mine has worked very well OTB and is really a lot of fun to shoot. BTW, mine eats everything. One other point, I know this is being very painfully obvious, so I apologize, but if you gun is jamming make SURE you are releasing the trigger enough to reset. A friend of mine had the gun, was misfiring and misfeeding at the range and he was getting more and more frustrated telling me it was a p o s. I shot the gun and it worked fine. He then shot and it misfired etc, we did this three times. On the third time I watched his trigger finger, saw he was not giving the trigger enough play, he changed his pull and the gun worked fine for him the rest of the day.

      @ArmatisReviews  2 роки тому

      Yeah I've heard about rimlock and how to make sure you load 22lr correctly in the right order/stack so it doesn't lock up. I try to be pretty mindful of that. The trigger travel thing is interesting. I don't think that's the issue, as a lot of the stoppages happen when trying to eject. It doesn't seem like a dead trigger most times, but more of a cycling/extraction issue. But that's an interesting note I will try to pay attention to next time I go out. Thanks for the info!

This was brand new out the box maybee next time i will clean and oil real well not sure if that will help i did add some oil out the box. Even my Marlin .22 mag Rifle acted up a bit today but it has been sitting it did not clean or oil it but ran fine the last several clips i ran through that. I was looking for a Mark IV but they are going for $700 right now which is absurd for a 22 pistol, so started looking at the firefly again.
