Love these toppers!. I made one recently and to cut the weight of the spackle I cut a styrofoam ball in 1/2 then glue it to the base. That way I save on the spackle.
Good morning. After making a couple mug toppers I use the foam board as well, and I wanted to make sure that once the topper is finished the topper can easily slide off so when I cut the circle for the top I also cut another circle that fits just inside the mug, glue it to bottom of larger circle so when topper is placed on mug it won't slide off. I used to do the same thing only with wood when I made canning jar toppers to put candies or whatever. I used to make a Santa,Gingerbread, and Snow man topper. I bought the patterns for them years ago but, can't remember her name.

I should probably not admit this, but when you used well instead of good I decided to join! Way too many of the diyers I follow aren't sticklers for the English language. I still follow them but kind of cringe at times. Blame my Dad! When we did that, his standard line was "Do you take English in school?" Then, "Use it!". He was born in Hungary in 1918 so his native tongue was NOT English which explains that. Now I'll go back and watch more of your DIYs!

@@davedalane6505 OH MY GOSH; thank you for answering SO QUICKLY!!!! I was searching the internet over trying to think what the work surface was called and found some similar surfaces that have the measurements within the glass! I am DEFINITELY going to buy one and I have to tell you I was MESMERIZED watching several of your postings and when I saw your working surface when you were rolling out the Magic Mold stuff, I knew that surface would be "handy to have around"! My brother is an artist and when he was young (around the 6th grade) he started learning how to cake decorate as a form of art. . Anyway he got so good that he started entering cake shows and would constantly get first place, best of show etc awards. He works with Clay and has extended his cake decorating skills (use of pastry bags and tips) with the clay. Well just recently, I managed to stumble upon this artist's page where he ALSO uses the pastry bags and cake tips but uses acrylic medium (paints) to create paintings!!!! So naturally I was intrigued and purchased a whole bunch of his acrylic medium and then some specialized tips and I am going to try and make some paintings myself! Can't wait to get started to be honest, it looked like so much fun AND then I saw how you use the light spackle and molding magic stuff and I think I can also incorporate your ideas within dome of my art projects! So thank you! I really was glued to your videos and know I will watch them more than once to gleen more tidbits ... I even shared your videos with my brother so he could see what you do with the spackle and such. Again, thank you. Sincerely & Respectfully, Pia Pill
I've been doing cake decorating for roughly 50 years. Not as a profession, as a hobby. If you want your plaster to pipe out easier, you need to twist your bag periodically to tighten up the spackle. Otherwise, you're using your hand too much, and it gets very tiring. But if you keep your bag twisted and taunt your bag does the work for you?
What is the purpose of only using “light weight” spackle. I used some Presto Patch on my 3.5’ gingerbread people and everything seems to be fine but now I’m worried that I may have used the wrong product. Not sure how to post a picture of project.

You can use whatever it doesn't have to be Styrofoam. I've seen paper towels, old newspapers used. It doesn't matter it gives the same effect
