From www.kevincaron.com - Artist Kevin Caron shows you why you don't have to replace a damaged plasma cutter torch - and show you how to fix it ....
Kevin Caron shows the plasma cutter torch from his AHP AlphaCUT 60. He was using the plasma cutter and kept pulling the trigger, but it didn't want to light. The tip inside was worn out, so it was time to change it. He unscrewed the cap and went to unscrew the tip, and it snapped off inside the torch. So he had to fix it.
Kevin Caron first removed the screws holding the torch together. Inside the torch body is the end of gun where the tip screws in, and where the high-pressure air comes out to swirl around and helps make the arc.
He shows the electrical line that brings the power in, and the air line. There's also another wire that goes into a white sleeve.
Next Kevin Caron uses a screwdriver to gently pry the parts out of the torch body. He uses an allen wrench to take apart the electric line, then removes a spot tie and some shrink wrap that is protecting one of the connectors so he can put in the new wiring and gun. He uses a razor knife to slit the shrink wrap and peels away the wrap.
Then Kevin Caron opens the airline and puts the clamp on the new air line, then reassembles it. He's sure there is a special tool to put the clamp back on, but he doesn't have it, so he just uses a pair of wire cutters to squeeze the clamps back on. "Don't get too crazy with it," he cautions.
Now he starts putting the torch head back together. He doesn't have any shrink tape that will fit, so he uses some electrical tape. Then Kevin Caron reattaches the electrical connection using the allen wrench and gathers the right wires with a new spot tie.
Kevin Caron double checks to make sure that everything is hooked up and inside the torch head body. He gets the electrical and safety lines out of the way, makes sure the trigger safety is in place, and puts the two parts of the torch back together, then screws everything back together. You're just dealing with plastic housing, so you don't need to crank down too hard.
He screws in a new tip, tightens slightly it with a wrench, puts the swirl ring and nozzle back on, and Kevin Caron is ready to test the plasma cutter. He puts on his safety equipment and cuts a piece of 1/8" steel - it works perfectly!
Kevin Caron hopes that will reduce panic if you have a problem with your plasma cutter torch. You don't have to get a new gun; just fix your old one. If you need parts or have questions, he recommends contacting George at George's Plasma Cutter Shop. He'll point you in the right direction.
Now you have time to go out to / kevincaron and sponsor him so he can make more and better videos. Well, you can stick around for a moment and see if Kevin can find what he needs in that old coffee can ....

I originally watched your video to see why my plasma cutting torch was not firing up. I found out I was missing the swirl ring...somehow lost during a tip change...and I forgot about it. With the swirl ring now works.
I have been enjoying your videos for years. I got a lot of welding tips and help for my welding hobby. Thanks
Happy to help Ed. Glad you found the problem.
Great info Kevin. I’m going to bookmark George’s plasma cutter shop for future parts needs!
George is a good man, he will treat you right. Please tell him I sent you.
Thanks Kevin... you are a fountain of DIY knowledge. 22FEB2018
Thanks for the knowledge. Would love to see what projects you have going.
Yes more projects please
You're doing some fast cuts in your editing, I enjoy your slow, smooth cadence, but I can see why you switched up to tighter edits, people sure are in a hurry these days.
Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy the videos
Thanks, will pass this on to the boss.
This thing is more delicate than my printer
And yet it will still plow through 1 inch steel plate! Go figure.
Good video I just put that same part on my machine
What's that part called?
@@angierich8342 plasma torch head assembly is what the manufacturer calls it my plasma torch is a pt-60 I got my parts from century tools
More art pieces even prototypes I'll take
did you throw the old part away? it would be interesting, since its already ruined, to try drilling on the old tip or cutting out a slot that would fit a small screwdriver. if that didnt work, maybe weld a bolt to the broken tip for removal?
Sorry, I did toss it already. This is the second time I broke one off. The last time I managed to get it out and the threads were okay. But it was sticking up just a bit out of the hole. This time it was deep inside so no go on saving it again.
You can got to amazon and buy a pack of 80 pinch clams plus the tool, don't know how he was able to get clam off let alone slide it back on. Have watched Kevin many times in the past and this is the only time he did not explain how he got clamp off
Whoops,, forgot that part. I just use a small flat tip screwdriver and pry the clamp open. Then use a pair of wire snips very carefully to get a good crimp when I put it back on.
hi man, i have the same torch, but im not sure what parts i can use with it, i mean the nuzzle and electrode - sometimes looks like non original parts are cheaper
Aftermarket consumables are always cheaper. And there is a reason for that! I have been getting my consumables from George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com Italian made and real high-quality parts. Last much longer than the factory stuff.
Kevin if you don't have the correct tool for the odicker clamp a nipper works well too.
The correct tool is just a blunted edge nipper anyway.
That is what I have always used also.
I used to do a lot of soda and beer line installs and if I could not get my hands on the correct tool
then the next best was the nippers. The nice thing about nippers over the diagonal cutters is that you get a nice square pinch on the ring.
You need to do a for the first time plasma cutting and have the Voice do the cutting. Just a set of hands is all you would need and with gloves on...
EDIT : Sorry about the miss-speing above. I somehow fat-fingered the keyboard.
LOL, I hear ya!
Hey Kevin, what do you think is the cause for that metal part to break, over torque on original install or dropping the torch ? Is the part made of brass or copper ? Any way to extract the part or prevent it from binding ? Thanks, J K
Operator error for sure. Over-tighten and no lube. My fault totally. The last time this happened I could get the broken end out and it was okay. This time, not so much..
god that sucks now im in the same boat
have a cut 50 flashes 000 and no air or spark any ideas?
No, but if you get in touch with George at Georgesplasmacutter.com I am sure he can help you.
Hello !! One question, do you know how its called the switch or terminal at the end of the safety line of the cover (the two small blue cables that go inside the head of the torch)? ?? Regards
Sorry, not sure what you are thinking of .
@@KevincaronSculpture Im thinking about the small terminals that trigger the security alarm of the cutter, if you dont adjust the head of the torch, the alarm activates because the NO contacts dont close the circuit
Where can I get the plastic handle for a Chinese plasma cutter? Want to change out the paddle switch on the plastic handle.
Talk to George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com He can help you get whatever you need.
Hai Kevin I have a question is there a way to make your own pilot arc on a plasma torch don't have a pilot arc on my plasma cutter my plasma torch is an pt31
Please check with George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com He is much better at this kind of work then I am.
Where did you get the replacement part
If I remember right I got that part from www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com
Thanks, Kevin. Any ideas who might carry replacement parts for various plasma cutters?
I seek a U.S.-based supplier of the switch-wire socket (and plug) that is on the front panel of my Primeweld Cut50D plasma cutter. The (male) plug on the front of the cabinet has two small posts inset in a cylindrical shape recess that has a dimple on the outer edge of recess to force polarity of the plug.
Thank you much. -Lee
www.georgesplasmcuttershop.com should be able to help with that. He is my go to guy for any of my plasma consumables.
@@KevincaronSculpture Link is bad. Missing the a in plasma. Here it is corrected. www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com/
What would cause mine to just stop blowing air out of the nozzle when it's on or I pull the trigger? When I put it on test air starts blowing like it should but as soon as I turn it back to normal it stops blowing and doesn't do anything when press trigger. Air pressure is fine. Had it on 60psi
Off hand I would say bad trigger. Take the gun apart and just jump across the two wires on the trigger. If it fires and air comes out then there ya go. If not then take the cover off the machine and find the solinoid right after the air hook up and see whats going on there. Or call George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com/Contact-Us-Page.html And talk with him. He is very up on all the different plasma cutters.
What can cause your Arc to not work even though your consumables an air flow is fine? Everything on my machine is working fine except there is no Arc to start the cut? I found another SG - 55 torch head online to buy but I want a better understanding of if something can go bad inside that torch head itself I would assume it can..?
Where can you purchase this piece you replaced
I got this one from Everlast welders. I am sure there are other places that sell them as well.
Just take easy out to it and back it out. Don't tighten to much next time.
Would have if I had one that small.
Not a first date but I massage a woman I slept with a women and stopped talking with her and about 10 yrs later I gave a client a massage at work and it was her…1800 miles (grand forks to phoenix) away from our romp.
The world is getting smaller all the time.
That’s parts changing not fixing !
Picky Picky!
Wouldn't it be easier to use a screw extractor
hey keven
how long do this type of torch consumebles last if used properly i have a miller specturm 1000 which needs a torch and original one is expensive for me i have found simular one with ip-80 code in ebay how good are these chinese cheers
I have had great luck with the stuff I buy. Please check with George at www.georgesplasmacuttershop.com
He is the last word in plasma cutters and consumables in my opinion.
Same thing as a harbor freight plasma cutter gun
Good to know. Thanks for posting!
