Thanks for the great video! We bought a Tranquility vs. Revel for the same reason. Our Tranquility 19P (different layout than the 19L) priced out for 120k (has a generator, not the lithium package) compared with a Revel which was 192K. Figured with the savings, we did some upgrades such as 4.3 van compass suspension from OwlOffroad which makes a HUGE difference in how the van handles and rides. Also some Owl Van skid plates along with various other interior mods. Only real downside with the van is some of the Thor interior build and materials used though so far the fridge, heater, generator, toilet, and interior ac all work well. Off-roading, the sliding door large interior panel came off. It was just glued on. And not that easy with the kitchen sink setup position to re-attach (we re-insulated the door too). Also, the blinds/valances popped off the back side windows. We had simple custom drapes made and seems a lot cleaner and easier than the roll up blinds. The kitchen drawers wouldn’t stay closed either along with the spray port not working (took some doing and a couple of calls to Thor who sent me the plumbing schematic , but got it working). But again, with that savings, if anything else breaks or falls off, we’ll upgrade it. But so far, all is working. And BTW, the Mercedes van is incredible. A pleasure to drive and very happy with it.
Thanks for the comment Andy. Yes we figured the cost in savings was worth trying Thor's version. We are pretty handy so if anything rattles off we can hopefully upgrade it or fix it ourselves.
Just received this bad boy two weeks a go and been enjoying it. I got the 2023 year model with upgraded lithium, it’s sure is nice to have. I’m very happy with my purchase, no regrets…
Just saw this video and really liked it great job. Wife and I are retired and looking to go see the states with our dogs and this is the type of coach we would use to do just that. The price is quite expensive, but adding up the cost of driving and hotels and city driving its a NO brainer to buy this.
I just bought one. My head's still spinning remembering how to use all the hoopla. Mine has some upgraded wheels/tires and that carbon fibre engine hood. It also has a sort of military power light bar atop the cab which I won't use offroad because it panics wild animals at night. It's a bit hoity toity for me but as in the title of this vid, a lot of van for the money, surprisingly so I think. The sweetie pie diesel engine is great, the trans & 4wd is nice and all Mercedes vans steer like a million bucks. The tranquility is heavy tho and you feel it. I drove a 5cyl inline turbo in Africa a bit, from Eastern Cape, SA ~Transkei ~ Natal ~ Swazi ~ Maputo, Moz and that's what made me like these crates. In the US we have the 3 litre bluetec turbo V6 auto instead of the stick with shifter on the dash / RH drive African unit which I liked a lot. The US version "Sprinter" vs the African "Vito" are pretty much the same but the Vito was just a van so it was way faster and quite nimble, quite fun to drive around in Africa. Great "social" gig unit for hanging out in Moz, whereas US lifestyle is way uber ultra over controlled comparatively. Will soon see if it's really kicks enough here ... anyway I'll take it down to Baja. Always need low sulfur diesel tho, if PEMEX doesn't have it most places that won't be cool. Fuel range isn't all that long distance. Getting about 18.5 mpg on the road so far, it's still brand new so have see how it goes, for sure it's chock full of complicated jive that I wonder if it really needs.
Great video - will be adding this model to our shopping list. With the lithium package, is there an engine auto-start function should the batteries run low? Thanks in advance.
I can only agree in camping by van off road, means using unhardened roads. Easy does it. No risks, no crazy track or deep waters to cross. Just get anywhere, where at least is some kind of road.
The cost of these in the US is eye watering albeit I appreciate the 4x4 requirement and Mercedes base model adds a huge premium tag. In Europe the high premium vans are almost half the price. The fitting out at the back is something that can be done to meet individual needs if required. Seems a huge amount of money to me but it is a good looking van.
As an expat living in Europe, I was wondering about this as well. In Germany, a Hymer Grand Canyon S costs under €110k with all bells and whistles. An equivalent Fiat Ducato/Renault Jumper/Peugeot Boxer (all=Dodge Ram) is about €30k less (albeit with a vastly less effective 4x4 system). That is the Sprinter premium. Not 50-100% more for something from a North American manufacturer. That's just silly.
Nice review. I do think it’s strange they put the electrical and hot water system controls at the back of the cabinet above the sink. If you put anything in there you can’t access the control panels but with limited space I would think you’d need that cabinet for stuff. TV is also in an odd place.
Agree w/ removing the back door cabinets. Maybe if the bed was lower, it would work, but of course, you'd lose your garage space. Just a thought since you don't care about watching television - couldn't help but notice how deep that was where the tv is mounted. If you got a good cabinet maker (and there's nothing behind the tv) maybe you could get them to modify your existing cabinet w/ the part you remove - and gain some extra storage! Also a Lagun table mount for the driver side corner of the couch would give you multiple uses. Good video. :)
Great video! Do we know if anything was changed between this model and the new 2023 one? I am also curious as to how the bike racks work for your E-mountain bikes and whether not being able to store them inside the van has been an issue as I am looking at a similar set up. Thanks!
We love your video, thanks for the details review. Do you ever have any issues when in 4x4 mode, like when you steps on the gas pedal and it doesn’t want to move??
Oh, sleeping under that cupboard should bother you with a Thor. There's another owner whose entire cupboard system in the rear came down while he was driving. That's crazy!
Great video - watched it a few times before buying a 2022 19L a few very cold days ago in Ohio. But we got a really poor demonstration of winterizing and nothing about the Truma Combi by General RV, so not sure it was done right. There are two lines with inline valves, one connecting the blue line to red and another just on the blue line. It's very crowded in there so can't see where they're going to figure it out. Both are near the front inside edge of the bench seat. Do you know what position each of these should be in to bypass the Truma furnace? Both of mine were found inline (not 90 degrees) after it was supposedly winterized.I just hope antifreeze wasn't pumped thru the Truma by mistake and i can't find any good explanations online. Also the yellow 3 way water switch was folded down instead of straight up like i found in online documentation for winterizing. And when we drove away after the sale and winterization, both the 2 low points and larger drain to the rear of that were pouring out water or antifreeze, not sure, but my wife noticed it following me home. Should those valves be open or closed after winterization? Thanks!
I'm not an expert on campervans because I don't own one, but I did rent one this year (a 2021 Winnebago Solis). I just don't understand why the big RV makers like Thor, Winnebago, etc. still build these expensive vans with propane gas (LP) for both the heating system and the kitchen cooktop. With everything you have to monitor and deal with while camping, why add another hassle/issue of having to monitor the propane level and then have a permanently mounted propane tank refilled? Portable propane exchange tanks are much easier to find, but why use propane at all? Underbed propane tanks also hang down enough that they reduce ground clearance and can be damaged by rocks or ruts on rough backcountry roads. If I ever buy a campervan that runs on diesel fuel, I want a heating system that also runs off the main chassis fuel tank. I'd also want an electric cooktop in the kitchen plus a MW oven.
Best review on the Tranquility, excellent . Picking mine up Tuesday and plan on adding the Owl spare tire carrier. I know the supplied bike rack won't handle two E bikes. Might I ask what E bike carrier you guys use ? Many Thanks RS
Thanks for your comment Ray. We ended up going with the Owl Vans B2 carrier with 2 1 up bike trays. We have the giant full suspension ebikes and that setup works perfect for those. Not sure if they would work for something heavier like the rad power fat tire bikes but maybe. The system seems really strong. We just did a 3500 mile road trip with the 2 ebikes, the large owl vans expedition box with a honda generator in there and had no issues and everything felt very secure even going 80 mph
Hello. thank you for this video. I also have plans for a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4, but I plan to build it myself. I found your electric awning with light and ordered it by smart smartphone. I couldn't find it on the internet. could you give me the brand and reference that I equip my van with. Thank you for your answer and have a nice trip.
Hi Brad, do you use the Winegard Connect 2.0 in your Tranquility. I would love to know who you use as your provider. I am spending a lot of time trying to find out info about the Winegard. Thank You! Michelle
Great van tour. I have a Thor class C Outlaw now but think I'll go with the Tranquility. The 30' Outlaw is just too big to camp in the city with. I think your tour sold me on the L version instead of the P.
Thank you. It is so hard to find decent information or visuals anywhere but with a RV dealer, and who wants to do that! We have been seeing the 4WD Sprinters and are very interested. (We have a T1N). I'm jealous about all that storage in the rear, but I'm not sure I am fond of having to use a pop-out to sleep -- we do a lot of boondocking and City-sleeping and want to be total stealth. Before Covid we were looking to buy a new one in Argentina, vacation in Patagonia, Chile and Peru then ship it from Lima to Ensenada -- then drive home. Even including the shipping, we'd save $70k
Very nice review. Love Prairie Creek. Currently comparing between this, the storyteller and sanctuary. But we love our four wheel camper. Thx for the review 🤙
The Sanctuary and the Tranquility are the same model just different names. There are 2 floorplans the 19L and 19P. The P has bench seating in the back that turns into a bed. The Storytellers are really nice but quite a bit more money.
@@Bradscottvisuals Curios if you also looked at the P floorplan and if so what made you choose the L floorplan. I'm not sure I'm sold on the high fixed bed platform.
So confused on these, the pictures on the website don't show the flarespace. But yours has it. I watched a video of the ceo saying they opted not to have those installed on these
Thank you! If I were to do it again I would go for a Story teller model. They are more expensive but a much more solid build. The quality of the cabinets in the Thor models are terrible. The only thing I don't love about the story tellers are the fact that you have to put up the bathroom fabric surround anytime you want privacy to use the restroom which would get pretty old.
I am a little confused, you had stuff in the storage around the bed, but completely empty kitchen cabinets? Do you not cook? And the fridge was mostly empty too, except for the popsicles.
We don’t really cook much no. We do pick up veggies to cook up sometimes and make a little stirfry but our fridge at home is pretty much empty as well. We enjoy going to restaurants in different spots lol
Please let me know when you (or any owners on this thread) get around to removing that rear overhead. Since watching your video and studying various conversation shop offerings, I’m convinced Tranquillity is the best bang. I recently looked at the “L” and that overhead was something I too would eliminate. However, at first glance, I’m curious how well it comes off without leaving “marks”? The bed is small at only 51” wide and that overhead doesn’t help. It’s too bad they don’t offer the space of the “P” using a platform bed - this would provide space of a queen size mattress and even larger garage below. Regardless…I’m close to pulling the trigger!
@@sschultzy1 Easy to remove...took about 15 minutes to get them out....then about an hour trimming a couple pieces to clean up a couple exposed spots...it makes a huge difference with them removed....if you are on Facebook join the Thor Sanctuary Tranquility Owners Group....I posted pics and details regarding removing them.
Thanks for your comment. The van did come with screens for the back and side doors but the magnets are not the best. I think we might try to cut the magnet part out and just add a zipper or something. The magnets are weak and don't close properly.
Was hoping the garage area would have been open so that mountain bikes would fit inside. I’m just comfortable with my expensive bikes hanging out off the back out in the open.
Hi Larry it’s the plushbeds 3 inch natural latex topper in a full size. It fits great. I left a link in the video description which will take you directly to the one I just mentioned
Hi Trinkie the gas tank is behind the drivers door. I guess that’s a subject for another video is to go more in depth about the engine and fuel efficiency. It’s a diesel motor.
Hey Brad, regarding the mattress topper…did u trim the full size down a few inches? The specs tell me the bed is a little smaller than a full size mattress.
I do dig this van. But gotta go Ford Transit ModVan for this 6ft 4 dude. It's got a full 60x80 Queen. Maybe if Thor goes Transit they can do the same. 👍
@@Bradscottvisuals I'm aware. Issue is the full queen has to go length-wise in that Sprinter floorplan. The Ford Transit is wide enough to do the queen width-wise with the bumpouts, which buys more elbow room for kitch, bath, dine, dance area.
We like the layout of the tranquility, these are a better bang for the buck with them being up to $50k less than revels and they are available now. Revels are hard to find.
Please take this as constructive feedback....because your video is excellent, your van is perfection and I was so excited to watch this video....but the overlay music on your video while your talking is unnecessary. I get creators want their videos to be trendy and polished....and the music overlay is great for scenery views or other highlights...but to have it on the entire time you're presenting your beautiful rig is distracting. We're here to listen to you, not elevator music. And what you have to say is so much better than the music anyway! :) I wish you many wonderful travels and congrats on such a gorgeous ride!
@@Bradscottvisuals Great reply….but seriously your presentation skills are wonderful, truly. And thanks for being so open to feedback. You’re a class act. I look forward to more of your videos. Have a glorious weekend!
Haha why because there wasn’t enough food in the fridge? We don’t like cooking much and eat at restaurants most of the time. I’ll post another video soon to ease your mind
I worked hard in a minimum wage job too, except I can only afford food. Well done you on being a better grade of human than me, and rewarded accordingly.
I started out working a minimum wage job and realized that I would never get where I wanted to be working a normal job building other peoples business. I started my own photography and video production company and worked more than I did working a normal job but was able to work as hard as I wanted and build up my business. All humans are equal it is all about the environment you put yourself into. You can either stay in the situation you are in and complain about it or change it. I hope you follow your passions and make a change if you are unhappy. It's not easy but it's worth it.
Hi there, thanks for this video. Just have one question, do you have this Power Pack Electrical System - Dual Power Pack installed on your van or a Single Power Pack? Thanks.
@@Bradscottvisuals Will buy one, just wanted to make sure I have the right price, because they (the dealer) is selling an 19L with the Dual Power Pack and one with Single with $25K difference in price. I love the color of your 19L. Couldn't find one with the same color. Thanks and take care.
These price tags are non sense ... It would be cheaper to buy a shell van and request a van designer to equip your van. Nice product but way to pricey though. Thanks for the comprehensive review.
If you research it is actually more expensive most of the time to have someone build it out for you if it is done properly. The 4x4 sprinter vans as a shell cost $63,000 + and then most outfitters start at $75k to build out the van which puts you at 135k plus and you have to be put on a long waiting list most of the time and have cash to do it.
No matter how hard American manufacturers try they can not achieve that look of a European made van. Lets look at knobs of a shower faucet, cheap plastic, same as 30 yrs ago. Kitch. I guess that is what sells in USA.
Not too bad, but I just do NOT understand the cassette toilet. The capacity of them is not very good and emptying them is gross. You already have a gray water tank and a sewer hose. Should have plumbed the toilet into the existing waste tank. I gotta empty the gray anyway. Having a real black tank (I have a class B) is a HUGE advantage. Can go for long periods without dumping and it is easy peasy ....
After several emptying of the cassette, I have the same van, I have to say I prefer it over the tank/ hose set up. We don't crap in the van , so really its not terrible. Several times I've emptied in the restroom toilet, no problem. Honestly, I don't like hauling black waste around for an extended period. I empty ours daily.
Why it's always a small girl that is showing inside of a van and not this 6 feet tall guy? ;) I'm sure that he would not fit between the shower and the kitchen.
I have to say the bathroom and shower is tight but there is something really nice about having the privacy and ready to go setup when you have to use the restroom in the middle of the night or when you want to take a quick shower.
the interior is over-loaded. you can't reach round to wipe your ass there. A microwave in a van is begging for organ cancer from the radiation. shower sitting down? the most important part to clean is your ass, not the crown of the head. Much room could be saved using thinner wood or lighter materials. Wonderful bathroom vent. Beautiful workmanship, but this size van begs for less, not more. Outdoor shitter, outdoor shower
We don't like microwaves either we are going to take it out and use the space for extra storage or something else. I have to admit the shower is very small but it's better than not having a shower and toilet. Outdoor shitter? No thanks!
They are pretty limited in space so it’s amazing that they have been able to cram everything you need into a 19 foot long vehicle. There are other longer class B non 4x4 motor homes with better layouts for sure but then you lose the ability to take it into more rugged terrain
Did I get that right? You bought yourself a commercially converted van. What's the purpose of posting this tour on UA-cam? You want a colada for being able to spend 100k$+???
Is there something wrong about doing a tour of an already built out van? People do tours of different cars, trucks, motorcycles etc so what are you on about. People want to know what they can get for their money. The title doesn't say how to build out your own van.

What's that light switch in the back.
Has anyone seen the panoramic yet it's amazing
What are the springs under the bed?
Does the engine come on automatically if batteries get low from AC? Auto start?
Lovely filming, wonder how it compares to the story’s teller Stealth offering
@@Bradscottvisuals yah I agree man Tiffin Cahaba’s are also pretty rad and much more under radar
Does it have functionality though?
The Box for bath/shower was taking up too much space...limited in squishing by. but nice features.
Great video and nice rig! Do you finally remove the storage over the bed? Does that work well? Thanks!
We have been super busy with work and haven't had time to remove the cabinet over the bed yet but it is on the to do list.
We are definitely going to remove ours as well.....just not a functional space with it .....
What mattress did you buy make and size please if you don’t mind
Here is a link to the exact one -

Make sure you choose the 3 inch topper in Full size
Where was this filmed? Ocean and redwoods, outstanding.
Thank you. We filmed in a few different spots up the california coast near the Oregon boarder as well as Oregon coast near Bandon Oregon
P.S. Oooops - scratch the Lagun table comment. LOL. Did the van come with screens for the slider and back doors?
Thanks for your comment. The van did come with screens for the back and side doors but the magnets are not the best. I think we might try to cut the magnet part out and just add a zipper or something. The magnets are weak and don't close properly.
So someone could sleep in the driver's seat with it facing the 2nd row seat!!?
Was hoping the garage area would have been open so that mountain bikes would fit inside. I’m just comfortable with my expensive bikes hanging out off the back out in the open.
If you want an open back you could go with something like a winnebago Revel but their price starts at $192K
Thanks guys I wonder if you could give me a idea of the price. .?
They retail for around $150k with the lithium package
Great Video. Do you have a link to the mattress you bought to replace the original?
@wilhemsfly here you go this link will get you $50 off refer.plushbeds.com/bradsplanet
The one we got was the 3 inch topper in medium firmness Full size
@@Bradscottvisuals Do you use just the topper?
@@kai12066 yes and have a wool topper now too. Check out our latest video with the upgrades we have made.
Can you tell me again what type of mattress you got for your camper?
Hi Larry it’s the plushbeds 3 inch natural latex topper in a full size. It fits great. I left a link in the video description which will take you directly to the one I just mentioned
No mention of the $120,000 price tag.
Lot of functionality
Hey Brad! Very very cool van! I just want to ask the mpg of that particular van of yours. Thanks :)
We have been getting around 16-20 mpg out of it. Not too bad
Joli !!
Did i miss something? Is this totally electric? I didn't see any gas tank access.
Hi Trinkie the gas tank is behind the drivers door. I guess that’s a subject for another video is to go more in depth about the engine and fuel efficiency. It’s a diesel motor.
How much did you pay for your van
Is that control panel created by Thor? Or can I find that on the market?
It’s made by bmpro I think their website is teambmpro.com
Nice video
What size is the mattress?
Thank you,
The mattress is the 3 inch topper in Full Size
Hey Brad, regarding the mattress topper…did u trim the full size down a few inches? The specs tell me the bed is a little smaller than a full size mattress.
I do dig this van. But gotta go Ford Transit ModVan for this 6ft 4 dude. It's got a full 60x80 Queen. Maybe if Thor goes Transit they can do the same. 👍
They have Mercedes Sprinters in the longer 170 wheel base.
@@Bradscottvisuals I'm aware. Issue is the full queen has to go length-wise in that Sprinter floorplan. The Ford Transit is wide enough to do the queen width-wise with the bumpouts, which buys more elbow room for kitch, bath, dine, dance area.
@@ChristopherDillman Do ford make a 4x4 transit?
@@Bradscottvisuals AWD for Transit. Coincidentally Benz is going AWD in their next Sprinter platform.
why this vs the revel?
We like the layout of the tranquility, these are a better bang for the buck with them being up to $50k less than revels and they are available now. Revels are hard to find.
Do you have to crawl over each other to get to the restroom in the middle of the night?
Yes but who doesn't love a beautiful lady crawling ontop of you in the middle of the night!
Car tyre
Can you change bigger?
Yes you can add off road tires which look awesome and help with traction for off roading.
Can you sleep 3 in this van?
If you turn the driver seat around someone can lay on the bench seat with there legs on the drivers seat but it’s not the most comfortable
I appreciate the feedback Tracey. Everyone hates the sound of their own voice and wants to cover it up a bit lol
@@Bradscottvisuals Great reply….but seriously your presentation skills are wonderful, truly. And thanks for being so open to feedback. You’re a class act. I look forward to more of your videos. Have a glorious weekend!
are u bothered by not having insect netting?
Thanks for the tour of this van, but something strange about it, sorry not convinced you own it.
Haha why because there wasn’t enough food in the fridge? We don’t like cooking much and eat at restaurants most of the time. I’ll post another video soon to ease your mind
Nice van. They should move the controls out of the cabinet over the sink. Makes no sense to have them there and is a waste of a storage area.
Yes they should. There are some poor design choices they made that could be improved apon for sure.
Thanks.
We have the single 400ah lithium battery with the 3000 watt inverter
@@Bradscottvisuals Will buy one, just wanted to make sure I have the right price, because they (the dealer) is selling an 19L with the Dual Power Pack and one with Single with $25K difference in price. I love the color of your 19L. Couldn't find one with the same color. Thanks and take care.
Here’s an idea for a drinking game: drink every time he says “functionality”, you’ll be fucked up
lol
I won’t be surprised this cost over $350k
Really great van tour. Very informative. If only there was a way to turn off the music. Sorry, but it was very distracting.
"4-5 hours of a/c"
yeah, that's a hard no for me
nice, but too small a space
It's the tradeoff you have to make for having a 4X4 that is also easy to park in normal size parking spaces.
@@Bradscottvisuals If you are happy, that is all matters. I have claustrophobia, so that is why I said that. Still very nice accommodations
Short throw laser projector, scrap the tv
Oh yea that would be sweet!
Why it's always a small girl that is showing inside of a van and not this 6 feet tall guy? ;) I'm sure that he would not fit between the shower and the kitchen.
Why the loud music? Super annoying.
Not convincing in so many ways. Still, thx. for the efforts….
I'm not trying to convince anyone about anything. Just showing off the van.
that Van is way too tight there's no room. Showers are wasted space.
I have to say the bathroom and shower is tight but there is something really nice about having the privacy and ready to go setup when you have to use the restroom in the middle of the night or when you want to take a quick shower.
Her voice doesnt sound real lol
the interior is over-loaded. you can't reach round to wipe your ass there.
No thanks!
Nope don’t want a casset toilet
The cassette toilet is great. Super easy
For such a high class vehicle, it has a pretty crappy layout.
They are pretty limited in space so it’s amazing that they have been able to cram everything you need into a 19 foot long vehicle. There are other longer class B non 4x4 motor homes with better layouts for sure but then you lose the ability to take it into more rugged terrain
Endccp

Did I get that right? You bought yourself a commercially converted van. What's the purpose of posting this tour on UA-cam? You want a colada for being able to spend 100k$+???
Is there something wrong about doing a tour of an already built out van? People do tours of different cars, trucks, motorcycles etc so what are you on about. People want to know what they can get for their money. The title doesn't say how to build out your own van.
Fun, interest, curiosity, comparison, ideas, geez, use your imagination. Or, simply ask yourself why you watched it.
Fake
What’s fake your comment?
appears to be some jealousy around here
So if you loose your phone or the battery runs out you can’t put your awning in and out. Kiss. What an annoying video.
You don’t need your phone to control it it’s just an added feature that you can use your phone. Everything is controlled by the panel inside
What an annoying comment!
It’s “lose” - not “loose” Einstein. Makes one wonder who might be the “S” in KisS.
