Decent gain structure, but I'm worried about the usual, "Marshall Mush" on low-end and smeary ( non-articulate ) note to note separation. What do you guys think? And believe me, I WANT to like this amp, as I grew up on great "Marshall Tones" of Rhoads, Halen, Schenker and Moore, but they have been resting on their Engineering and Historical laurels for WAY too long.
Man i made the mistake of trying this at Sam Ash about an hour ago 😀, now I'm trying to see what gear I can sell to get one 😂. I had a JCM 2000 TSL 60W and this little amp blows that out of the water!
I recently bought this amplifier and I love it!! I am confused about recording through it. I’m really just getting back in to playing again. It seems like it was really easy to use my Tascam with my Fender amp back in the 90s. Can you shed some light on this for me please. Thank you
Hey, Rick! 10 Marshall tube watts can still kick for sure. I personally own a 15 watt Blackstar tube amp for at home practice and I can't get it past halfway on the master volume without my ear drums exploding. However, these amps to give a lot of headroom, even at 10 watts. The master volume design for these amps was still designed to give you the classic Marshall tone and enough headroom to play at lower volumes, and in a bedroom setting. Thanks for the interest and let me know if you have any more questions! Trevor Parks, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1724, trevor_parks@sweetwater.com
With the master volumes thats not an issue at all. I have the 100 watt head which can shake the neighbors walls and still sound excellent if its turned down at night time cause my girl is watching tv in the next room lol.
Thanks for your message, Tony. Happy New Year! Short answer is yes, you can connect this combo to an external 4x12 cab. The longer answer relates to if you want to bypass the internal speaker or use it in combination with the external cab. Always make sure you match impedances so as not to damage. Please contact us direct with other questions as you have them! Robert Williams, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 2371, robert_williams@sweetwater.com
Does the Tone Shift button simply bypass the EQ entirely (the equivalent of centering all the EQ knobs)? Or does it set the EQ to something that isn't flat, but is more like a "preset" of some sort?
Hi, LMacNeill. The Tone Shift button revoices the amp and gives it a more modern scooped EQ sound. Mids are reduced and treble is increased. This can still be adjusted with the actual EQ controls but it helps people get a better starting point depending on the sound they’re after. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Hello there! Absolutely! 40 watts on a tube amplifier is more than loud in the studio. In fact, this model can be set to be 20 watts as well, to allow for more appropriate recording volumes. Mickey Cushing, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800 )222-4700 ext. 3024, Mickey_Cushing@Sweetwater.com
Hi, Kip. The Classic Channel has a good amount of clean headroom. With the gain below noon and the volume up, you’ll get a good amount of volume without any breakup. Obviously the more wattage the amp has, the more headroom you’ll have as well. Also, lower output pickups will help the amp stay cleaner for longer. Thanks for your interest! Charlie Davis, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1320, charlie_davis@sweetwater.com
Hey there! Yes, it certainly is possible with this amp. There is an 1/8” aux input on the back of this amp labeled “audio in”. You can use a standard 1/8” cable to plug your phone into that. This will allow you to play both your guitar and music through phone at the same time through the amp. I hope this helps! It's a great amp and I even bought it from Sweetwater lol. Watch out for the Effects loop though....it accepts line level signals...not guitar level. Some individual pedals will create tone suck with using the effects loop....like boss pedals.

1970borntorun “yannys”
I’m not sure, I really want to give it a shot but don’t know if it will hold up to heavy use.
Debating the JVM205C, Mesa tc-50 combo or this
lol!!!!!
The Dsl40cr provides almost too much low end on classic mode . Note separation is maintained well even on very high gain.
I just got this Amp weak reverb. So far thats it
I just bought a Ferrari : So far, uncomfortable suspension, that's it.
What microphone is being used in this video to record this amp ?
Man i made the mistake of trying this at Sam Ash about an hour ago 😀, now I'm trying to see what gear I can sell to get one 😂. I had a JCM 2000 TSL 60W and this little amp blows that out of the water!
complete dad rock, played by the most dad rock looking guy on earth
I recently bought this amplifier and I love it!! I am confused about recording through it. I’m really just getting back in to playing again. It seems like it was really easy to use my Tascam with my Fender amp back in the 90s. Can you shed some light on this for me please. Thank you
Re-voiced from the older icy trebly model?
You really need the 6 button foot switch for live performances
Aside from the speaker, is there any differences between this and the DSL40CST? And will the Marshall PEDL-91016 switch board work on the DSL40CST?
Can you get thrash metal tones out of this like early Metallica and Megadeth?
I have this amp, and let me tell you, it has tons of gain! Getting those heavier sounds is no problem.
Great amp!!!
Is the low watt mode on this amp any good for bedroom practice?
10 Marshall tube watts can still be loud as hell.

With the master volumes thats not an issue at all. I have the 100 watt head which can shake the neighbors walls and still sound excellent if its turned down at night time cause my girl is watching tv in the next room lol.
Sweetwater thank you for the reply!
Michael Inglis thank you for that info!
Can a dsl40cr go into a 4x12 cab?
Thanks for your message, Tony. Happy New Year! Short answer is yes, you can connect this combo to an external 4x12 cab. The longer answer relates to if you want to bypass the internal speaker or use it in combination with the external cab. Always make sure you match impedances so as not to damage.

thats the best way
Does the Tone Shift button simply bypass the EQ entirely (the equivalent of centering all the EQ knobs)? Or does it set the EQ to something that isn't flat, but is more like a "preset" of some sort?
Hi, LMacNeill. The Tone Shift button revoices the amp and gives it a more modern scooped EQ sound. Mids are reduced and treble is increased. This can still be adjusted with the actual EQ controls but it helps people get a better starting point depending on the sound they’re after.

Can you plug headphones into it?
What on earth was that noise before you began talking?? Is this amp a noise machine?
Please please please I beg you please MARSHALL MAKE A DANG EXTENSION CAB FOR THIS AMP !!!!! Cash in hand waiting 💰👍🏾
Was this recorded with the emulated line out?
Is the dsl40 loud enough and good for studio recording?
Hello there! Absolutely! 40 watts on a tube amplifier is more than loud in the studio. In fact, this model can be set to be 20 watts as well, to allow for more appropriate recording volumes.

How is the clean mode on the Classic Channel? Is there real headroom there when playing aggressively with single coils, or does it break up?

Hello! I have a question for you. Is it possible to connect a phone with a backing track to an amplifier and play the guitar at the same time?

Well use decent pedals and don't plug your guitar into the damn effects loop. Non-issue.
So i have boss katana mk2 100 and im thinking of buying the dsl 20cr but should i??
Bought one. Brought it home and compared it side-by-side with other similar amps I have… disappointed. ☹️
I'm the 100,000 viewer!
Best tube amp made for under $1k.
Fuck, I barely can buy a pair of socks even, but definitely will buy this baby for X-mass, from me, to me. 👍
whats the settings in the intro??
No way I can set up mine like that... wish I could!!
Is there still a problem with the reverb pedal
is the "tone shift" button for both channels ? or just Lead channel ?
Main question, does it take pedals well? Specifically fuzz I’m looking for some good low end
I own one and your answer is no, but it sounds superb without them.
On clean channel the pedals work great. Use the loop if using the gain channel.
Does this model still send the signal trough the fx send when is in stand by mode like the jvm series?
Hi, MC Bacau. We checked with Marshall and this model does not send any signal from the FX loop send when the amp is in standby.
