People have to cut Rudy some slack. He was locked in. He's not a fighter he's a mage. There is an entire battle system that hasn't been explained in the anime. It's called battle aura. It basically is a physical enhancement to the body which gives you superhuman feats and reflexes. Rudy doesn't have this. Only his trained muscles and normal human reflexes. In the LN he literally couldn't see far enough into the future to tell what the hydra was doing because it was so fast. And even when he could it was only like 1 second, which is nothing. Doesn't matter if you can see it if you can't dodge it. Yet alone warn people in time for them to react as well. He had to be point blank in order to hurt it with magic. Basically at 10% HP the hydra went off script and started using its stumped limbs to attack, which Rudy had to focus on which made him lose track of the normal head. The limbs also kept Talhand and Elise busy as they had to protect themselves and Roxy. Also, Paul could cut the hydra because he had a legendary sword that gets sharper the tougher the object basically is.
he could see far enough into the future, the problem was that the hydra literally took his whole field of vision, and some parts of it was outside of his vision as well. He couldn't comprehend the future he was seeing.
100% right about someone like orsted, we actually saw him regrow the hole he made on Rudy, so regrowing limbs is a possibility, they just don't know that level of spell. When it comes to how he lost his hand, Elinalise pointed out in the episode how the scales of the hydra were extremely sharp, so when the hydra closed its eyelid was like a guillotine on Rudy's arm and how he died wasn't a matter of not paying attention, it was more the lack of physical abilities and how the eye of foresight have weaknesses like if what you'll see is either too big to fit within your line of sight or out of it before the attack even came it works more like an obstacle than anything else... Great video as always 👍🏼👍🏼
Orsted is another beast entirely. Hitogami did say Orsted is the strongest and he's not joking. Cause spoilers, Orsted actually mastered ALL forms of sword styles and magic to the highest tiers. It's not off the mark to assume he has revival magic as he basically did that to Rudy. There's probably still a limit though.
@@DarkFrozenDepths yeah I've also read the LN, I was just pointing out how magic can definitely achieve those feats by the standards we previously had. It's the only example I could think of without going into LN territory
Rudy was using his demon eye at the moment Paul saved him, but couldn’t process wtf was happening because the hydra was freaking the fuck out since it was almost dead. So Rudy was actually locked in, but it’s the same thing like with Orsted, he saw what was gonna happen but couldn’t react/ couldn’t process it in time since he’s a mage and usually fights from far away, but had to stay close up this fight so that the fire magic actually worked against the hydra. Also probably all happened in like 5 seconds, so rudy really couldn’t do anything since he’s not fast like Paul.
The worst part is the realization that the last time this family was all together was back in Buena village before Rudy got sent off, they didnt get to cherish that moment and now never will 😢
so the confusion about how he lost the arm is the follow. in the novel the explain that the Hydra's scales not only cancel magic but are sharp like blades, the second the Hydra closed the eyes was lieka guillotine closing on Rudeus's arm
Even if we can see it coming from a mile away, when the tragedy happened, it happened so suddenly and adruptly to where many of us will find it hard to immediately process what happened. No elaborated dramatic moment, no last words, no nothing. That's how it often goes in reality as well, which is why it makes it all the more painful. But what hurts even more for me personally is knowing that Rudy lost a father not just once, but twice. TWICE. The first time he had cut himself off from them in his past life, the second time, he had established such a heartfelt connection with, only to lose them in a moment of unfortunate timing just like that. 😢😢💔💔 Worst Father's Day ever.... That and Zenith despite being saved is now mute and amnesiac..
Paul fact they skipped: His off-hand sword has a special trait that makes it cut better against harder targets. So it's real effective against, say, a super tough hydra, but it also can't cut bread or butter.
Tragic what happened to Paul but it was obviously coming. Bro was giving out so many flags gyattt damn. They cooked this episode with the animation though
LN illustration: *Shows Paul's upper body facing Rudeus with his lower body dimmed and cut by the edge of the page* Anime: *Slows pans Paul's whole(half) body to show how gruesome it is* They really had to rub it into anime viewers' faces that he really dead with that last zoom on his lifeless face.
The way I thought of the "regret going and regret staying" was that obviously now he will always have regrets and wish they could have done things differently, so Paul survives as well. But if he hadn't gone then they never would have found Roxy, who only survived because Rudy found her at the last second. And they would have never found the mom, since they were only able to find her because Rudy went and had that book. So, I thought the entire regret warning was focused on that side of the choice, rather than regretting anything with Sylphie back home.
The hydra has extremely sharp scales that even just getting grazed by it will cut you up like crazy. Like how Elinalise had her shoulder cut. When Rudy pierced the eye the eyelid chomped down on him and basically guillotined his arm off. Raw af. Never seen another character in fiction lose a limb to an eyelid.
Something that I believe was explained a loooong time ago, like first half of season 1, the world they’re has mana literally everywhere. In this world, if a corpse is not burned the mana in the air will be infused into the corpse creating a zombie. If they didn’t burn Paul’s corpse he’d be a half torso zombie stuck in the last room of the labyrinth forever.
The reason why Paul was so strong is his new sword. The harder the thing he wants to cut, the more effective it is, but almost useless against soft things. One of the books they had back in Buena Village was a long story and at one point it mentioned a similar sword. So when they seller was going "I've got that nice sword but it's shit because it can't even cut butter !" Paul's brain went "Heyyyyy wait a minute, maybe...?" and manage to got it for cheap .
i like that every one got to show off this episode. paul and elinalise got to show how crazy strong they are. Roxy was a perfect all rounder. talhand can actually move, thats the craziest part to me. like a god damn bowling ball breaking the hydra's ankles
If you're wondering why rudeus arm got rip off, its because the scales of the Hydra is razor sharp and it rip rudues arm off, same thing happens when Elinalise went in to cover for paul the first attempt, she got graze and you can see blood coming off in the frame. and oh yea, remember when badigadi(the four arm demon dude) told rudeus about battle aura? that probably why rudeus arm got ripped off easily when the dwarf guy didn't lose his leg
An extra layer to when Paul told Rudeus "Save your mother, even if it kills you!" comes from his backstory in the Paul Gaiden: Paul's mother died of illness when he was 11, and the family blamed him for it. His last act in the Notos house a year later was beating the ever-living shit out of the 6yo Pilemon for using their mother's memory against him. Valentina was the only person he ever felt loved by and the only one he ever loved. Until Zenith. When he started getting closer to her, his memory of his mother started overlapping with his mental image of Zenith. Upon telling his life story to her, she started to fall for him, willing to give him what he's been looking for all along: love and a home. She gave her condition to him at a later heart-to-heart, and they had their first night not long after. With the hydra fight, he symbolically has a chance to save his mother where he'd failed before.
I think the position is Paul - Head Cutter Rudeus - Head Burner Elinaliz - Protect Rudeus - 2nd Damage Roxy - Healer - 2nd Head Burner Talhan - Protect Roxy Geez - Distraction So, I think the one who is out of position at the end is Elinaliz. She needs to stay next to Rudeus.
The man god had warned Rudy not to go to that city/continent before he even met up with Sylphy again. So it seems like something like this would have always happened. Although perhaps he could have had better team work with Paul at that point. But then he wouldn’t have had the book on teleportation magic. So many just what ifs.
Turning Points aren't when bad things happen to Rudy, they're when the story changes in direction TP1 changed the story from slice of life to adventuring TP2 changed the story from adventures to a coming of age TP3 changed the story from Rudy's maturing to something else
The Hydra's scale is so hard and sharp when it closes its eye, it cuts down Rudy's arm. Also the Hydra's blood is acidic. Also Paul short sword is a magic item. It can't cut through butter but it can slice through steel, in this case, the scales are hard. Paul got it cheap cause merchant thought it is useless.
in the light novel the hydra's scales have edges like swords due to the condensed mana flowing to the dungeon center so its eyelid would have been like a chainsaw - then i mean ultimately its a massive creature so realistically all of its physics should be pretty deadly it closing its eyelids is probably like the strength of four arms closing then it moving its head is probably like a large construction truck moving so even without the scale swords this thing just moving would be so powerful lol
Paul's sword actually is cuts sharper the tougher the thing he's cutting, which is why only he could cut the heads of the hydras because it's scales are so tough and sharp. They were so sharp that just closing it's eye on Rudy's hand basically severed it.
I honestly can't remember how they talked about it in the LN, but Anime wise, I thought it looked like he crushed his arm IN his eye socket by closing it hard. Imagine how strong a 7,000lb lizard is, snapping a twig of a small humans arm is nothing. And that thing you guys said about the ashes, definitely.. I think its WILD that in Japan they go through the ashes and pick the bones out, I do not think I could EVER do that. When my mom passed I got her ashes and I couldn't even deal with them as is.
Yeah. That's pain right there. Amazing episode, but damn did it hurt. Also when there was one/two heads left the Hydra was going crazy so Rudy's eye couldn't predict it's next move which was to target Rudy because it determined him as the biggest threat.
Worst day/week of Rudeus in this world with his father dying trying to save him, but despite that they still won the fight and saved Zenith just for her to wake up in a vegetable state unable to speak. That is heavy.
every part of the hydra is serrated even a slight touch can graze people (elinalize wound) the fact that rudy go full hand inside that hole no wonder his hand got cut off.
The reason they cremated Paul there is because they couldn't carry back the body and fight their way out of the Dungeon. Bodies buried inside the dungeons rise up again as undead and here's the kicker, they have to crush his cremated bone remains because Skeleton Knights are also a thing and Paul would make a hell of a knight.
in the first cour of season 2, he called his left arm hercules. now its gone. with his father. and probably a mother. the opportunity and excitement to introduce his first child to his father and his mother is also gone. and its going to be hard to explain paul and zenith situations to his sisters, especially norn.
In the anime it wasn't shown well but rudy couldn't tell what was going on his eye could only see what's in front of him when the hydra got to one head its started wildly moving all its neck and with rudy directly next his eye couldn't process all that information nor could he see all of it. going even further rudy doesnt have battles aura the ability to coat your body in mana so he can't enhance his speed/strength so its not like he could just duck in out of the fight like paul and the others funny enough it was because of this battle aura that paul died as a kick he used would actually pushed them both out the way if he didnt have it but ended up leaving paul in place Tldr rudy wad focused the whole time and didn't space out
The thing with the details of Rudy's arm coming off is you have to know mythology/have read the book. Hydra blood is both poisonous and acidic, so basicaly his hand is melting off the entire time its in there. And hydra scales aare so sharp they can cleave flesh off gods. He hydra eye lid, covered in scales, closing was like super sharp tree trimming shears closing on what was left of his arm.
No one here noticed, but the fact was that they delayed airing an episode for a week earlier this season which is how it was moved to Father's Day on purpose. Also, if he didn't go then Roxy would have died in that room.
If Rudy hadn't gone Roxy would almost certainly be dead at the very least. He got to her just in time. So he really would have had regrets and loss no matter which choice he made.
Rudeus lost his arm because the force of the hydra closing it's eye was powerful It's a massive eye and the eyelid was covered in heavy scales In the light novels it's described as a guillotine They cremated Paul because it's impractical to carry his body out of the labyrinth, and burying him in the high mana density labyrinth ran the risk of his skeleton turning into a monster
Now, think if Rudy hadn't used the circles to get there way faster than the 8 months.... He would've showed up after Roxy is dead and then lost his dad still due to helping them clear the labyrinth.
So the fight with the Hydra and rudy lacking, it's not really lacking but more like Rudy can see the attack patterns of the hydra, but couldn't keep up physically cuz he's a mage. Like the meme of “I can die more strategically”
This is a lot to take in. In one fell swoop, we lost Paul, Zenith got Casca'd, Rudy lost Hercules meaning he can neither hug both Aisha & Norn at the same time meaning ONE of them is going to feel rejected always & he can never use the stranger ever again, AND I learnt to that Terrance is a father. _____ Father's Day, I guess.
It was absolutely diabolical to have this air on Father's Day 😂. But it was such a bad situation because had Rudy not gone, they likely wouldn't have saved Zenith but Paul would still be alive 😢
when the hydra closed his eye lid thats when rudy's arm was chopped off, and also if rudy didn't go to begarit roxy would have died since rudy saved her.
Stay strong dudes. Stay strong. The moment Rudy put his arm in the eye, there was a bit of heat so that and the sudden jerking may have resulted in the decapitation of his hand/arm.

Orsted actually mastered ALL forms of sword styles and magic to the highest tiers.
Also probably all happened in like 5 seconds, so rudy really couldn’t do anything since he’s not fast like Paul.
bro became the honored one
The depressed one
The worst part is the realization that the last time this family was all together was back in Buena village before Rudy got sent off, they didnt get to cherish that moment and now never will 😢
This and hotD really said yeah happy father's say no it's happy death day
...
...
After cremating, Rudeus tried to pick a bone, (a part of of the ritual in Japanese funeral) but even the bones turned to ash.
I remember elinalise recommend him to burn thoroughly to bring him back, as bury there might turn him into undead or skeleton
@@komura36 yeah, and it took 3 days for them to get out of the labyrinth, so there was no way they were bringing that corpse.
so the confusion about how he lost the arm is the follow.
in the novel the explain that the Hydra's scales not only cancel magic but are sharp like blades, the second the Hydra closed the eyes was lieka guillotine closing on Rudeus's arm
Worst Father's Day ever....
That and Zenith despite being saved is now mute and amnesiac..
Them airing this father's day was just down right Diabolical, Im positive gege helped with the production for episode specifically.
Paul fact they skipped: His off-hand sword has a special trait that makes it cut better against harder targets. So it's real effective against, say, a super tough hydra, but it also can't cut bread or butter.
That’s actually dope. It’s the antithesis to all things hard or otherwise un-cuttable
Tragic what happened to Paul but it was obviously coming. Bro was giving out so many flags gyattt damn. They cooked this episode with the animation though
if only they had a Tank on the party. damn it paul, thank you for saving rudeus and the town people. you did good.
LN illustration: *Shows Paul's upper body facing Rudeus with his lower body dimmed and cut by the edge of the page*
Anime: *Slows pans Paul's whole(half) body to show how gruesome it is*
They really had to rub it into anime viewers' faces that he really dead with that last zoom on his lifeless face.
Damn now that i think about it, kinda was a shoutout to Berserk. Arm lost, an eye got ripped, woman went mute and mentally shattered....
On the bright side at least they saved Roxy, had he not gone she definitely wouldn't have been rescued.
They have to burn the body or it would turn into an undead.
Also, Paul is not gonna get meet his grandkid. You know he'd be the best granddad.
If Rudy stayed at home, Roxy would've died which would probably be his worst regret
Rudy literally showed them the way so pual never would have found zenith either and would have been upset with Rudy or died in the dungeon searching
Just wait….
That goddamn, self-proclaimed God, he knew this was going to happen.
Paul trying to pick up Paul's ashes is particularly unsettling.
the hydras whole body is sharp as hell and when it blinked when rudy smashed its eye, the hand was sliced off
This is the point, remember to value your parents while you have them, you never know what will happen tomorrow.
20:29 "Rudy got too excited with one head left."
Uhm... Sure. Sounds.... Sounds true in more ways than one. 😅
i like that every one got to show off this episode. paul and elinalise got to show how crazy strong they are. Roxy was a perfect all rounder. talhand can actually move, thats the craziest part to me. like a god damn bowling ball breaking the hydra's ankles
What hurts me the most is the fact that Rudy's dream won't ever come true... Like having his entire family in his new home with Sylphie and his kid...
An extra layer to when Paul told Rudeus "Save your mother, even if it kills you!" comes from his backstory in the Paul Gaiden:
Paul's mother died of illness when he was 11, and the family blamed him for it.
All of the hydra’s scales are razor sharp, including the ones around its eyelids. When the hydra shut its eye, it sliced into Rudy’s arm.
I think the position is
Paul - Head Cutter
Rudeus - Head Burner
Elinaliz - Protect Rudeus - 2nd Damage
Roxy - Healer - 2nd Head Burner
Talhan - Protect Roxy
Geez - Distraction
So, I think the one who is out of position at the end is Elinaliz.
Turning Points aren't when bad things happen to Rudy, they're when the story changes in direction
TP1 changed the story from slice of life to adventuring
TP2 changed the story from adventures to a coming of age
TP3 changed the story from Rudy's maturing to something else
Zenith became a vegetable... and Paul became fertilizer for her.
the hydra eye socket closed on his hand and arm so hard and the skin is so tough it ripped it off
I honestly can't remember how they talked about it in the LN, but Anime wise, I thought it looked like he crushed his arm IN his eye socket by closing it hard.
Happy Father's Day to Paul!
The eyelid of the Hydra cut his arm off. Also they had to cremate him there as it's an adventurer thing where they do it in the labyrinth they died.
Nah the Hydra has armored eye lids, it simply shredded his hand by closing its eye
He lost his arm when the hydra closed its eye
Yeah. That's pain right there. Amazing episode, but damn did it hurt. Also when there was one/two heads left the Hydra was going crazy so Rudy's eye couldn't predict it's next move which was to target Rudy because it determined him as the biggest threat.
Bruh that hydra squinted really hard and severed rudy's hand
I have no idea how Rudeus gonna tell Norn and Aisha about paul's death when he gets home in next episode. Damn, it must be tough🥲
The father's day release was Diabolical
The hydra closed its eye and cut his arm off with the scales.
to answer your question fathers day in japan is also the 16th of june so yes this was wild for those in japan too.
Worst day/week of Rudeus in this world with his father dying trying to save him, but despite that they still won the fight and saved Zenith just for her to wake up in a vegetable state unable to speak. That is heavy.
earlier in season 2 when Rudy was up north, he named his arms, the one he lost was the one he named Hercules, kinda ironic huh.
every part of the hydra is serrated even a slight touch can graze people (elinalize wound) the fact that rudy go full hand inside that hole no wonder his hand got cut off.
Fun fact: Rudys left hand was named Herkules, and he lost it to the Hydra....
rudy lost his arm cause of the hydras eyelid closing, since its whole body is covered in super sharp and heavy scales
Bro would probably be a boss by himself 😂
in the first cour of season 2, he called his left arm hercules. now its gone. with his father. and probably a mother. the opportunity and excitement to introduce his first child to his father and his mother is also gone. and its going to be hard to explain paul and zenith situations to his sisters, especially norn.
In the anime it wasn't shown well but rudy couldn't tell what was going on his eye could only see what's in front of him
when the hydra got to one head its started wildly moving all its neck and with rudy directly next his eye couldn't process all that information nor could he see all of it.
going even further rudy doesnt have battles aura the ability to coat your body in mana so he can't enhance his speed/strength so its not like he could just duck in out of the fight like paul and the others
funny enough it was because of this battle aura that paul died as a kick he used would actually pushed them both out the way if he didnt have it but ended up leaving paul in place
Tldr rudy wad focused the whole time and didn't space out
I guess in the end, Rudy was only able to see half the man Paul was 🗿
The thing with the details of Rudy's arm coming off is you have to know mythology/have read the book.
Damn shit got real quick 👀
No one here noticed, but the fact was that they delayed airing an episode for a week earlier this season which is how it was moved to Father's Day on purpose.
Also, if he didn't go then Roxy would have died in that room.
Maybe someone said it already, but the reason they burn Paul's body in the dungeon, was because he could have become a zombie or something
If only rudy was "half" the man that Paul was....heh...
If Rudy hadn't gone Roxy would almost certainly be dead at the very least. He got to her just in time. So he really would have had regrets and loss no matter which choice he made.
Thumbnail says it all. I still cant believe they aired this on fathers day
Rudeus lost his arm because the force of the hydra closing it's eye was powerful
It's a massive eye and the eyelid was covered in heavy scales
In the light novels it's described as a guillotine
They cremated Paul because it's impractical to carry his body out of the labyrinth, and burying him in the high mana density labyrinth ran the risk of his skeleton turning into a monster
Now, think if Rudy hadn't used the circles to get there way faster than the 8 months.... He would've showed up after Roxy is dead and then lost his dad still due to helping them clear the labyrinth.
They pushed back episode 19 by week just so this would land on Father's Day 🥶
So the fight with the Hydra and rudy lacking, it's not really lacking but more like Rudy can see the attack patterns of the hydra, but couldn't keep up physically cuz he's a mage.
Low key this hurt 😢 on fathers day
Diabolical airdate for this episode. Paul went out fulfilled though. Knowing he saved Rudy and in turn rudy will save zenith.
You are the only person to mention that the manGod told Rudy he's going to regret his trip 😭😭😭
There's no way they planned for this to drop on fathers day right
I just finished volume 21 of the LN and I’ll just say it’s not all in vain. By the end of the book I was in tears.
It was absolutely diabolical to have this air on Father's Day 😂. But it was such a bad situation because had Rudy not gone, they likely wouldn't have saved Zenith but Paul would still be alive 😢
when the hydra closed his eye lid thats when rudy's arm was chopped off, and also if rudy didn't go to begarit roxy would have died since rudy saved her.
the battlefield was to messy for rudy to tell what was happening with demon eye
Stay strong dudes. Stay strong.
The moment Rudy put his arm in the eye, there was a bit of heat so that and the sudden jerking may have resulted in the decapitation of his hand/arm.
It was the scales, like how Elinalise lost a small chunk of skin just by touching it, so the scales in the eyelid acted like a guillotine
Just discovered you guys and I am now a subscriber
Thank you for the support fam!
Rudy went, Paul died
If he didn’t go.
Roxy dies (possibly)
They never find zenith
Either way Rudy ends up with regret
Yoo ngl the guy in the pink kinda looks like Even from rttv but aside from that Paul went down like a G respect 🫡
