why aren't all wbcs filmed like this? Very professional and easy to watch. This was the year I got into speciality coffee and I learned a lot from these performances.
I want to see a Starbucks Barista try to compete! "Here is your coffee, Oh it's wrong? Let me take off the top and dump a little out and try to fix it instead of remake it" :P
I'm just finding out now, how to properly making an enjoyable homemade coffee. Being just a beginner in drinking this, it was nice knowing there are so many things to discover and enjoy... This level of passion and effort to their job is amazing..surely I'll never even come close to a 'barista'- standard, which also isn't my goal to do so. But it's lovely to watch and listen to how many different things go into this sort of drink and made me think on a different note about these baristas and what they stand for. Enjoyed his explanation and passion, thanks for sharing this ! :)
It is not all that hard, just like cooking. You just have to have knowledge and care about it to make it great. But I suppose that is a lot to ask of "today's society"
Siege Perilous That's true ...in cooking I'm pretty good actually and also love to do it. Aswell as baking and working with chocolate etc... Coffee however was complete new for me..perfecting this however has , just like cooking, 1 disadvantage..I have to do it all the time for family and friends 'because it always tastes better'.hahaha
As a barista, I can completely understand how someone can see a competition like this to be a complete waste of time. I, however, find the coffee world fascinating, which is why I will never again make fun of an occupation/hobby that someone enjoys, no matter how unimportant it seems to me.
why they call those coffe milk drinks cappuccino? they are without any froth, just a bit on top. The milk is for sure structured, from a Barista worldchampon, but the drink doesnt look a properly cappuccino
It's because he layered the crema and milk, this crema sitting on top of milk and vice versa, but if you look the judges test the milk for consistency and depth to make sure that it meets the standard reqs. of a capp
@@aocplusme5676 That makes sense, I wonder if her hard hearing enhances her sense of taste to help her be a better judge like this www.hearinglikeme.com/deaf-heightened-senses/
Tyler Kaschke Incorrect, they are checking if there is enough froth in the coffee. Checking Consistency req 2 coffees. but they have only got 1each. Min 1cm is req for Latte. And he did a flat white, most champions would/will use Latte - it's easier to check the level of foam, foam bring in the sweetness as well. Why not Cap? It contents choc, choc contents sugar - which is banned.
Malphas Yiu Yeah, that's what I meant by checking the consistency of the steamed milk, froth, foam, whatever you want to call it. Maybe viscosity, density, or thickness would have been better words to use? Those are cappuccinos, though. No chocolate in cappuccinos.
Timothy Johnson Yeah, it's really odd. They have commentators and seem to be trying to hype it up like an action sport, but it's just a guy pouring coffee. I would swear it was Japanese game show theme if I didn't know better.
cetusipy Did you ever tried to make an espresso ? There is quite much to perfect from grinding to pushing caffe in portafilters and even slight change can totally change the taste.
I am a barista. And it took years of hard training to get a perfect cup of latte with beautiful art on it. Barista championship is not just about pouring milk over espresso. It i a combination of art, guts, and millions of technique.
This is the description of his espresso. As far as what he was doing, he was preparing signature drink shots that will be chilling until the last course of the performance
i dont get it why they checking the contestant so tight. its just show of a man using a machine to create a exquisite liquid stuff. thats it. "Coffee making" is overated. Cookery Competition is way more instresting and have more skills scoring factor. thats my opinion for this Coffee making competition.. dont get me wrong, i respect coffee making has its own skills and difficulties but just not have "Competition Scoring" factor enough . oh yeah i dont respond to your perspective. so dont waste your time. and yeah English is not my first languange.
Why is so nervous if he is the champion? He stayed up all night porkin the judge in the white and he is afraid her husband is going to beat his ass. When he talks it sounds like BS.
Sugars aren't cheating in signature drinks. The whole point is to create a beverage with more complexity or to balance the existing acidity. Is it cheating to add bitters to coffee? If you're such a purist, you should just watch the Brewers' Cup because that's pretty straight forward.

It was just after this that the WBC went from being a non profit to a business. It definitely changed the vibe
Yeah, that was so fun with the commentary!!
My left ear enjoyed this video

Wow, comments are working again. Didn't actually want that one to go through.
Who is the British commentator? Sounds like Steve from Has Bean.
yeah it is, stephen leighton.
As a barista, I can completely understand how someone can see a competition like this to be a complete waste of time. I, however, find the coffee world fascinating, which is why I will never again make fun of an occupation/hobby that someone enjoys, no matter how unimportant it seems to me.
Word! That's actually really good life advice. :)
I was looking for World Baseball Championships...
😂

this exists?
I don't get it, but as long as they don't start calling themselves "athletes", I'm OK with it.
Barista is the definition for a coffee house employee...
Yes, I know that.
***** *REAL Barista.
***** So he still is some kind of coffee house employee :)

It's called "Clutter" by Ronald Jenkees
Those aren't Cappuccinos, they're closer to Lattes.
It's because he layered the crema and milk, this crema sitting on top of milk and vice versa, but if you look the judges test the milk for consistency and depth to make sure that it meets the standard reqs. of a capp

Blonde girl on the right felt in love
Does anyone know how much the volume capacity of the cup that Pete used in his cappuccino course?
If I recall, they were 6oz & a "tulip" style shape
To compete world barista championship is not that easy i guess
I have been watching WBC for long.
This man is suave.
That judge in the white looks like she isn't listening to the guy at all she just wants him lol
@@aocplusme5676 That makes sense, I wonder if her hard hearing enhances her sense of taste to help her be a better judge like this www.hearinglikeme.com/deaf-heightened-senses/
Got to see Pete win the USBC in Boston in 2013. Amazing barista and nice guy.
My left ear enjoyed the M.J..
Where is the ShamWow guy when you need him....
Pete Licata, 2013 Hipster Champion.
Who are the commentators?
Peter Guiliano & Steven Leighton
Dammit. Give me a black coffee and a sherry pie!
The judge on the far right definitely fancies him
Definitively. She's melting literally :-)
thought the same lol
The blonde judge on the end.. wouldn't mind banging her that's for sure :)
I wonder what and why they do with the spoon thingie before tasting the cappucino??
They do that to assess the consistency of the steamed milk.
Tyler Kaschke

This is one of the strangest competitions I've seen on youtube. Is this a normal barista challenge?
Very normal, It is a strange culture.
Timothy Johnson Yeah, it's really odd. They have commentators and seem to be trying to hype it up like an action sport, but it's just a guy pouring coffee. I would swear it was Japanese game show theme if I didn't know better.

+Iqbal Batubara It is hard to fill a cup that is already full.
This is the whitest thing I've ever seen in my entire life.
Shut up ! Michael Jackson !
世界一のバリスタ
if it takes you 15 minutes to bring me my coffee you are a terrible barista.
he took less than 15 min to serve 12 drinks. Less than 2 min per drink. Why would that be a problem?
KF Chan Your cool
....poor dude
These guys need rehab
Indeed! 😂

Why is so nervous if he is the champion? He stayed up all night porkin the judge in the white and he is afraid her husband is going to beat his ass. When he talks it sounds like BS.
Awkward and uncomfortable. ugggggh
:D
Sorry guys, I always loose my shit when I see sugars in coffees, CHEATER!

Sounds reasonable.
competition in stupidity!
I hate coffee, why even bother drinking it, very harsh on your digestive system, and tastes like shit, lazy persons drink,
That girl is crushing hard on him.
