Description: “Watching The Credits,” a terrific power pop anthem recorded during the sessions of The Beths’ spectacular third album Expert In A Dying Field, was born out of songwriter Elizabeth Stokes’ habit of learning everything about movies without actually watching them. She now understands this fascination with another creative medium was an escape from music, which had become her job and existential. “Watching The Credits” is Stokes’ imaginary view from the director’s seat.
Official lyrics: Press play on the rest of the day Hurry up and wait for your next scene Not great Couldn’t keep my face straight And I know very well that it’s ‘Show and Don’t Tell’ on the big screen When all of the lines you’ve learned are bleeding on the cutting room floor There’s no star on the door Good God! Who are you making this for? I spend all day putting out fires Listening to choirs singing The soundtrack blaring And I spend all night Cutting up edits Watching the credits to find direction In my existence It’s just a story I don’t quite believe Full of plotholes and constant monotony Who’s going to root for this unlikeable lead? Not them, not me, not likely Maybe it’s something we can fix in post Or we can get take after take ‘til the cows come home Shut the door I’m feeling overexposed Now they all know All of the tears you’ve cried but You can’t quite make it happen on cue The pain never comes through Good God! When you’re needing it to I spend all day putting out fires Listening to choirs singing The end is nearing And I spend all night cutting up edits Watching the credits to find direction In my existence
I'm hopefully going to one of their shows in Germany in June, my plan was to ask the band about this song and if it'll ever get released, guess I can scratch that from my list of questions 😂
This gives me hope for the future of guitar bands. Literally delightful.
I've heard they play this song as a sound check.
It's beautiful!
so sad this wont be on the new album, absolutely love this song
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@@starsigngd I literally just got a notification from band camp about this song! I'm so happy

Thank you for recording this performance, this song is such a gem
Official lyrics:
Press play on the rest of the day
Hurry up and wait for your next scene
Not great
Couldn’t keep my face straight
And I know very well that it’s
‘Show and Don’t Tell’ on the big screen
When all of the lines you’ve learned are
bleeding on the cutting room floor
There’s no star on the door
Good God!
Who are you making this for?
I spend all day putting out fires
Listening to choirs singing
The soundtrack blaring
And I spend all night
Cutting up edits
Watching the credits to find direction
In my existence
It’s just a story I don’t quite believe
Full of plotholes and constant monotony
Who’s going to root for this unlikeable lead?
Not them, not me, not likely
Maybe it’s something we can fix in post
Or we can get take after take
‘til the cows come home
Shut the door
I’m feeling overexposed
Now they all know
All of the tears you’ve cried but
You can’t quite make it happen on cue
The pain never comes through
Good God!
When you’re needing it to
I spend all day putting out fires
Listening to choirs singing
The end is nearing
And I spend all night cutting up edits
Watching the credits to find direction
In my existence
I wonder if the Beths will release a deluxe version of Expert in a Dying Field and have a studio version of this song on it
That would be good!
They just released the studio version of the song!
@@MrRafting I just came to UA-cam because of it!
