Holy hell, from the audio mix to the stat display to the "we'll do zero chips unless forced to but we'll finish it anyway cause it's fun" this is about as immediate an upgrade to this challenge as...
    Uh.
Well, Battle Network 2 was to Battle Network 1. That's pretty fitting, huh?

The flamethrower actually makes the Quickman fight easier. He's not only vulnerable when he attacks, but also when he's randomly zipping around the field before his attacks. If you hit him while he's zipping around, it also cancels the attack he was preparing to do. If you shoot your flamethrower across his field as he begins to move, the flames stay long enough that he will always end up running into them. He will practically never get a chance to attack.

After you get access to Undernet 5, zenny no longer matters. There are 3 mystery data there that all have a chance at containing 50000 zenny. And with how mystery data work in BN2, you can just save in front of the data and soft reset whenever you don't get what you want, so that's 150000 zenny for each trip to the Undernet. I don't remember when you actually get access to that though, since I haven't played through the main story recently, just the post game.

Huge thanks for the heads up here! Might have saved me some grinding towards the end of the game, but I am pretty sure that I was stuck to Undernet 3 during the Null&Void challenge which was the most difficult zenny grind. Very useful to note though, and I'm sure that the later games will likely have similar zenny drop shortcuts

@@creationcorporation6267not so much a mystery data glitch but in bn3 you can abuse the betting minigame by winning the first 3 rounds and losing the 4th. It makes tons of money an he won’t stop you from continuing like when you win all the rounds. Also theres the job board request with the money statue; between those 2. You wont need money in bn3.

at the very beginning of the game the GMDs can give 1000, 1500 or 2000 zenny if you are lucky
EDIT: I would also have recommend biting the bullet and grinding out a Wood Guts Style when you ran into the Null&Voids, even without knowing your next one would be Wood to go with the Heat Guts Style, Wood Charge shot is the one with the greatest damage potential of any charge shot. The same also applies in BN3, Aqua Style charges fast and shoots a Shotgun chip, Elec Style stuns and shoots a Zap Ring, Heat you have seen, Wood shoots a multi hit attack 2 panels in front of you, each hit doing the damage of a charge shot. Really think you are underestimating it, thru this whole run.

For what it's worth, the wind effects in battles are caused by projectiles moving horizontally across the rows. In this game, they're quite hard to see, but they do have a visible outline. Also, those "mystery diamonds" have a proper name: "Mystery Data", with blue, green, and purple variants. Blue and Purple will always have the same reward the first time you pick them up (Purples need the Unlocker sub-chip) and Green will always have something random, based on the map they're placed in. Blues and Purples function like Greens after the first time you pick them up.

I just watched your 2 challenge videos back to back and the up in quality is very noticeable, I hope you keep doing these videos.
Also about the the padding backtracking fetch quests, I actually think it's a good topic of conversation to have and a video about it would be very interesting. Mostly it was a quirk of the times, since developers felt the game needed to have some arbitrary number of hours to make the game worth the price of buying it; That and the fact that GBA cartridges were very limited in space and these games tend to use every last bit of memory so to increase play time they kinda had to create some excuse to force you to back track thru already completed content and areas.

Video is great, keep up the good work if you plan on doing the entire battle network series. as for BN3 and beyond i think keeping the "no chips" is good as that means you'll be able to use the nevi customizer in the later games to make up for the buster, using things like shield and anti-damage (i don't remeber the damage value, but it might be needed for a certain barrier)

    • @creationcorporation6267
      @creationcorporation6267  2 роки тому +4

I'm no expert at the games (as you can see!), so I've been thinking about how to be creative about some of the obstacles that you're referring to. Unfortunately, anti-damage's navicust does 50 damage from what I understand, so it may not be the solution to the barrier that I think you're referring to!

    • @dass8193
      @dass8193 2 роки тому

If you want a strong counter, shield style reflect does 100 damage per reflect, but attacks like alpha's claws still break through it. Anti damage is the only one that counters everything with good timing.
Another head's up for bn3, if you plan on using Buster Max, put on bug fix even if you don't plan on using chips...

I'm really glad you went to a true mega buster only challenge. I don't blame you for needing to use chips to progress, and I don't count those as much since one is a puzzle requiring PA's. Also needing all the V3 chips I would consider a meaningless task to progress to the actual fights. You made it through the story and took out every boss and enemy (not including those tower thingies) without chips so that's a win to me.

This one was even better than the previous! I can't imagine how long it must have taken to make this vid. I found it really interesting to watch even as someone who has never played battle network.
Some advice from my perspective, bc I haven't played this game before I don't fully appreciate how difficult it is to beat the game with only the mega buster. What would fights be like in a normal playthrough vs how they are now? I like that you explain why each battle is difficult but maybe one way you could make it more appealing to broader audience is to interlace with clips of what the normal items in the game are like. Kind of like "this is how easy this fight usually is". For the really tough fights you could also show how clips of yourself dying repeatedly or a clock in the corner showing how long a fight took.
Another thing I've seen in a lot of videos is to spend a minute explaining the context behind the game, like "mbn2 came out in xyz on the Gameboy advance".
    Overall was really great!

    • @hi-i-am-atan
      @hi-i-am-atan 2 роки тому

to provide some of that context, one of the basic chips you start with is basically just a buster shot, except it does _30_ damage to the buster's 1 and can also damage whatever's in the panel directly behind what it hits. meaning that in any battle with at least two enemies, it can save a whopping 60 buster shots. plus, the initial shot can hit the goofball's shield and still damage the goofball itself because of the piercing effect, without any of the frame-perfect timing the buster requires
and mind, this is one of the _weakest_ starting chips. you also start with stuff like a grenade that deals 50 damage to a panel a set distance away from megaman ( which is another way to bypass the goofball's shield, since the grenade will just fly over it ), a sword that can only hit directly in front of megaman but deals 80 damage, recovery chips that let you heal during battle, and the areagrab chips that caused this guy so much ire to let _you_ limit space in which enemies can move - and also combos well with the sword chip, as you can imagine. and that's just the chips you _start_ with. those flappy viruses? drop what's basically a higher damage version of the grenade chip that also cracks the panel it hits. beetanks drop grenades that hit in the same aoe as their attacks. swordies drop stronger swords that strike multiple panels and for elemental damage. spookies let you _become temporarily invulnerable to most attacks._ and the chips only get stronger from there, like the navichips you get from the boss navis - they're practically summons from final fantasy, complete with freezing the screen while the navi does their powerful, elaborate attack
oh, and to boot, if you pick certain combinations of chips? they combine to become these attacks called program advances that are _much_ stronger than the sum of their parts. it is no exaggeration to say that chips are the actual primary combat mechanic in the series, with the buster not being much more than a backup weapon to help eke out a little bit more damage between custom screens or when you manage to use up all your chips

Heya, Corp! Like the previous vid, this one was a very fun watch, just as it was very interesting. As a massive BN fan, it's really nice to see the series getting more traction, as I truly do believe it deserves that.
Now, with my BN fanboying aside, there's a few things I'd like to point out to you!
Firstly, in every BN game (at least, I believe it's in every game, I'm not 100% sure, though I am 99%.), whenever you move in a fight, the cooldown on your Buster shots actually sort of resets, so you can immediately shoot again. While this is slower over spamming the B button against an enemy in the tile directly in front of you, I'm fairly sure it's faster in every other scenario to keep moving back and forward together with spamming B, so you can use the cooldown resetting trick! For example, this helps a ton in the FreezeMan fight! It's also really useful against bosses who move a lot, if you're also constantly moving to align with them, as at the same time you're dealing damage to them, you're also constantly on the move to dodge their attacks.
Another thing, though this one pretty small, is I've just been wondering why you call Mystery Datas "Mystery Diamonds", don't get me wrong, it's not a big deal at all, it's just kinda something I've noticed, and got curious about.
And finally, for something more specific to this game, QuickMan is actually vulnerable to attacks while he's zooming around just before attacking, so in the rematch, instead of tanking hits to land a shot while he attacked, you could actually fire a charged shot while he's moving, and usually he'll just waltz into it.
Little nitpicks aside, though, I really enjoyed this video, just as I did the last one! The editing has DEFINITELY improved a lot, and I can't wait to see your next vid!
One question, though, when you get to BN3 and later, do you plan on banning the Navi Customizer? Or only NCPs that directly affect chips/do damage? Because I can see AntiDamage and Reflect being absolute GODSENDS to this challenge.
I'm assuming you won't fully ban it because otherwise you'd just have the buster being level 1 in every stat, but still, it's food for thought.
Also, it's honestly so surreal to see Navis take this long to be deleted. At least just as raw gameplay without the constant interruption of the Custom screen, guess being used to quick kills just makes these sorts of challenges look weirder than they actually are, eh?

Thank you! Glad to hear you enjoyed it - the editing has definitely been a learning experience for me and took way, way longer than I would've liked haha.
Absolutely, the cooldown resetting is a good trick and I should absolutely integrate it much more in my gameplay. Thanks for pointing that out!
I actually always called the mystery data mystery diamonds as a kid because of their shape, and it was just a habit that I didn't lose haha.
Makes sense on QuickMan - I didn't catch this on the original battle and when my strategy didn't work with the flamethrower, I didn't realize he'd have some additional vulnerability. Maybe this is something I would've figured out if I really needed the HP for the later fights!
I'm not 100% sure how I'll use the Navi Customizer yet, to be honest. Most of the chips that you mention like AntiDamage are locked behind leveling up different styles like Shadow, as far as I know, and so I probably couldn't actually get during a no chip playthrough. One of the things that I've been floating are doing two runs for BN3 - playing Blue using the current strategy, and then playing White using the same rules of no battle chips but using BugStyle instead. Any thoughts on if that would be interesting?

not that it would really matter to how far you can make it in this run, but as a way to make the early game fights easier your buster shot cooldown resets every time you move, so if you move forward and back while shooting as fast as you can you can shoot at about double speed from being stationary.

Just a note that running is actually tied to how many upgrades you have (as you just learned)
So even though a single mettaur should be easy to run from, since you don't have any upgrades you can't run. That changes once you get upgrades but I remember that being a quirk in this game.
I think end game enemies you can't run from reliably but easier enemies are easier to run from.

Always love to see more battle network content and cannot wait for the surge come April.
3 without chips/buster only is gonna be a NIGHTMARE on a couple bosses thanks to being only able to have a single style and there being no powerups to get because of the navi customizer. I strongly suggest against a no chip run as there are certain chips that can force a style that might help. 3 white has ground style which can force the tiles to be a certain type at the start and blue has shadow style which just makes your charge shot invisible for like 2 seconds. You get ground style by using chips like metal stage a LOT. pray you get a wood ground style as that would basically make you immortal when combined with undershirt.
Personally I would suggest trying to just make a folder to restrict the enemy field (you can literally panel lock them in BN3. This makes the Momquake PA a massacre. Momquake is 2x rock cube + godstone) and barring that hope you don't get an elec style. You'll also want to use a couple of codes in advance to make plantman's dungeon easier as you gotta literally burn fire type chips to solve the dungeon so you gotta have an obscene number of them and the drops will leave you needing a new controller.
Also try to grind every enemy in the start of the game for as many bug frags (earned by counter hitting them) as possible as this lets access the most busted chips VERY early using the bug trader on hades isle (gargoyle statue, jack in and keep going and you'll find the warp to the undernet.) in blue version this nets you for 200 frags the infinite mulligan known as FOLDERBACK. This wild giga chip recycles your ENTIRE folder (including itself) thus allowing you to NEVER run out of chips.
    Hope this helps.

    • @DreadJoker

@@creationcorporation6267 I did forget one feature of ground style that may heavily influence the version choice. If you level it enough you can earn a program called "set holy." This program forces your side of the field to start with 9 holy panels that halve damage. If you get a guts style you'll be able to use the break series of programs such as break charge and break shot. These are INSANELY powerful programs that are also featured in the hub batch program you get on a secret path near the bug frag trader in the final post game area (locked behind 20 CONSECUTIVE virus battles, chips and PRISM absolutely required.)
The number trader is present starting here, enter all of the codes as over half of the spin programs are contained in it along with sub chips and the most powerful PA in the game, master style (salamander + fountain + bolt + gaia blade) which is a wild coded PA.
Aqua styles have the fastest charging shot that can penetrate with bubble shot
To take advantage of life I suggest once you get the customizer to go for bug style first as you get bug stop the second it levels up and once it maxes out you get dark license (giga chip free usage on 60% of the chips) This style gives you a random bug at the start of battle, sometimes multiple, but it can make your life a lot easier since it has a large range of positive bugs like 1 turn invincibility or a huge barrier.
It's worth noting BN3 has the highest giga chip count of all games as every single navi has a V5 chip which is giga class (can only be obtained after getting team style and fulfilling other requirements)
The side missions hold VERY important items as you get the final navicust expansion and the WWW ID by doing them along with if you do it this way, either 100k or 300k zenny (look up a guide for this mission or you will NOT get the money reward, it's listed on gamefaqs)
BN3 has one scripted loss that you cannot avoid (Bass first encounter)
Flashman can be done no issue but it'll take a while since you'll only do 1 damage and he has 300 hp,
gutsman is gutsman so nothing new there,
beastman doesn't sit still but for a few frames,
bubbleman never leaves the back row,
desertman falls apart art every shot UNLESS you hit him with a water attack so hope for an aqua style in this case and can be done but the entire stage is sand and slows mobility,
kingman is a combo of shadowman and thunderman so keep moving and popping off if possible,
      VERSION EXCLUSIVE FIGHT
mistman (white) can be done with the buster but won't be easy
bowlman (blue) buster is possible but you'll want to learn his pattern as his attacks pop off a second time if you hit them with any attack
both can be refought in the netbattle comp in the tv station
      copyman (gutsman again. nothing new)
flame man has effect candles that might drive you mental,
drillman can ONLY be damaged by penetrating attacks as his hit box during his attacks is coded exactly the same as the puffball's.
Bass has a 150hp barrier that somehow swords don't work on but drops it for a SINGLE attack and is the first part of the final boss, final boss itself can be done buster only but you need a LOT of hp (hp+1000 extra code. SIDE EFFECT: all panels crossed over become poison panels and cannot be negated by float shoes) and bustermax, strongly suggest using a turbo button if possible.
Darkman can be done with minimal issue but he cycles elements,
yamatoman will make you sweat as he can reflect shots back at you doing MUCH more damage, has an attack called backup that acts like gateman's army except they also feature panel grab and they can all but panel lock you making all of his attacks hit.
Serenade can only be hit during certain movements without panel locking him.
      OPTIONAL BOSSES
metalman buster possible, gives quick access to yoka and beach area
punk buster possible, no chip drop in usa/european versions of the game (money farm)

Also, what I like most about challenge runs like this is that it shows basically any folder is very viable. I'd probably only ever do buster-only every type of encounter once, and probably only in bn1, but I love all the takeaways. @hi-i-am-atan 2 роки тому

i've never been certain about the exact mechanics behind the buster's attack speed, but i do know two things: first, despite the lack of visuals, the buster shot is actually a projectile with a travel time, and second, you can shoot again a lot faster after the projectile despawns
that's the secret behind why attacking from the front row is faster than attacking from the back row - and why attacking an enemy on the front row is faster than attacking one on the back row. it's also why your attack speed is at its slowest when hitting nothing from the back row, because that means the projectile has the most distance to cover before despawning via leaving the play area
now, how that all interacts with the rapid stat? i genuinely have no clue, it's always been a part of mmbn that's puzzled me

    • @creationcorporation6267
      @creationcorporation6267  2 роки тому

Honestly, fully agreed. The pellet having travel time is consistent with how the side-scrolling games all work, which is a really cool nod!
From what I've read, the rapid stat allows you to shoot one more pellet per second from the leftmost panel, but I haven't actually seen a good comparison or breakdown of how this works.
