I have begun taking engraving classes (only one under my belt) and the idea of sharpening gravers is more intimidating to me than the actual act of engraving itself! Learning to hand sharpen a graver is a much more cost effective choice than purchasing a GRS or Lindsay system. Thank you for an easily understood video. 😁
Fantastic advice and great videos Huiyi! Your recommended practice regime along with the tips you mention are absolute gold. This includes your recommendation regarding shaping and sharpening gravers by hand. These are all absolute essentials to start with. If you follow this advice as a beginner; you will be well on the way to "clicking chips" as Ken Hunt would say!
I am getting my gravers soon! Excited to start I learned a lot from you. I was wondering however about something you said: "start with carbide graver" C-max from GRS is carbide right? Because I heard that especially carbide (because it is so hard) breaks easily and is difficult to reshape compared to HSS. Some video from GRS suggests Glensteel (HSS) to start with.
I just want to be able to do the odd star setting. I wish I could just buy a ready made graver for that purpose. Can I ask what specific wheel you use to sharpen them please.
I have them ready made here for you: huiyitan.com/collections/miscellaneous You can also find the list for all the tools used in my video in the above link.
Sure! They are available here with lots of intense details and diagrams which explain everything you need to know about how to make your own graver: huiyitan.com/collections/course
The lettering you do in the video what gravers do you recommend? the kind that looks like calligraphy, im trying to learn how to do it on silver, the ones i have are 90 degree, flat and rounded. is there another kind i should buy? i have a Grs Gravermach AT. thanks.
Hope I have this right! Ms Tan I left a previous comment, and another person thinks I wrote something (albeit short!) Inappropriate. If my words offend you, please let me know! Thank you 🌹
What metals do you engrave or carve in? How long have you been a craftsperson? Have you made or tried to make certain tools? (You're hot! 🥰❤️🌹) Do you also carve wood, or bone / ivory? Thank you for sharing your skilks! ❤️🌹👸 Hugs lovely lady and queen 👸
It’s totally inappropriate to comment on a woman’s appearance when she’s trying to give a lesson like this. Have some respect. If you have no idea what she’s doing (which you clearly don’t ) this is not the skill for you. No she doesn’t engrave wood!
@@NotFalling4it doesn't carve wood? Tell me not falling 4 it, what do you carve? Ever shape ash? How about birch? Mahogany? Maple? Oak? Walnut? Purple heart? She also gave me a "❤️"
