Small note for someone who has no prior experience with Kindle Unlimited - not all books are available via Unlimited program and some can only be purchased with actual payment. It kind of depends on which books you are reading - if you are a fan of classics, thrillers, romance and commercial fantasy/sci-fi, then Kindle Unlimited is the way to go. However, if you are after NY Times best-selling releases (new and highly-acclaimed releases in sci-fi, literary fiction, nonfiction), they are often not a part of Kindle Unlimited and need to be purchased separately. In the end, it depends on which genres you read and which particular titles you are after.
Loved the video. I use Kindle WITH audible. You can either purchase a book through Kindle and click the "add narration" for a little extra cost and get the book in both the writing and audio! AND you can listen and read the books AT THE SAME TIME on kindle!! You can do the same thing when you buy books through Amazon. If you go through Amazon though, make sure you have the purchase type listed for Kindle because you can't purchase both under Audible. If you select "add narration" or "whispersync," generally listed under the add to cart button, it will add the book to your Kindle. Once downloaded in Kindle, the audio will download and be shown right under the page marker line at the bottom of the screen. You can have the audio book read to you while following along or switch between the two options!!! And you don't a subscription through Kindle to do this! Happy reading!
What kind of Kindle do you have Laven?
Can I do the same for kindle unlimited?
I'm about to go to the gym (literally) and I realized that while I'm doing the running part, I could pretty much start audio books. And I've been contemplating on Audible for quite a while now but the single use token for one single book was so off putting , I couldn't wrap my head around it. And now I just discovered scribd and I'm like "Maybe the netflix of books is the better option". And I may just end up going with scribd in a few minutes. Thank you for this video, it was fantastic and VERY easy to understand and yeah... Last note: Your energy is FANTASTIC. I would watch you talk about history events nobody cared about if you had the same energy, no joke.
I tried Audible and it was really surprising for me that you only get 1 book to listen to. In my opinion if you pay for something a monthly fee then you should get the books for free. I would pay more basic fee if I had them unlimited in the end.
I agree with you. Great point
So you might need Scribd then.
This is the video we needed just never knew until it came!
Thank you for the video...I was on Scribd a while and I loved it until they started taking books away in the middle of my reading and I couldn’t listen to more than 2 audiobooks a months...it’s not unlimited! I loved the huge library and loved browsing through it all but as soon I would save an available book/audiobook for later, the next day they would push it to the next months...It was getting frustrating so I stopped....but if they stop doing this games (they are doing it on purpose, I read few articles and reviews on it) I would definitely go back
Your videos mean a lot to me, just because they show me that I'm not the only person who's gone from travelling all the time to reading a ton. Feels like a massive shift in lifestyle but at least I'm not alone
Definitely not alone babe! I'd we can't get lost down winding alleyways somewhere warm and exotic, at least we have adventures and world's to explore in books 🖤
I got 3 months free of Kindle Unlimited, it's good on a 10 inch tablet because you can also read comics and magazines quite clearly. By the time I've read several magazines and a bunch of comics, I feel I've gotten more than £7.99 in value.
I love my kindle unlimited! I have never heard of scribd, I may have to check this out. Thank you so much!
Ok Aly, you have a lot to answer for. Watched this this morning, downloaded Scribd and have been lost in a book all day! Half way through already! Thanks for the link.
Great comparison! I like that you get right to the point unlike other channels. Thanks for the info😊
Okay I am hooked I all ready have audible and have used it for a long time but now I am going to check out scribd so thanks I will use your link 🥰
There are some great books on there, enjoy! And thanks 🙂🥰
Greetings
This has been a great help I have dyslexia and I love books but I become very frustrated reading
not knowing words, scribd same a good one for me many thanks.
Ooh and I also recently found out audible is way cheaper if you pay for a year in advance!! Wish I’d known this earlier!
Thank you. Had just downloaded Audible. But came across this before I signed up. Guess I will be going Scribd ! Unlimited offer is rad!
I love Scribd. I got into it last year and have listened to a ton of audiobooks through that. Do you know about Prime Reading? If you have Prime there are a bunch of books available to read/borrow for free many of which have Audible narration included.
Thanks fr the suggestion...I will try scribd trial version and then decide whether to go with audible or scribd
A trick with audible is to return the books you aren’t fussed about keeping and you can get the credit back, it only works up until about 5-8 times in a row but it refreshes after a few months & you can start returning again!! This is how I have listened to over 150 audiobooks on there 🤣
Did you know Amazon takes author's commission away once you return a book? Do you know Amazon takes 80 per cent of profits so authors are left with pennies? I'm not an author btw. People like you are pure ignorant scammers. Get yourself a Scribd subscription if you're too stingy to pay for books in a fair way. You'll get a good value for your money without being a scammer.
Love your video. Learned a lot. Thanks.
Had Scribd for many months then wasn't using it enough so I cancelled...guess what, all books I had purchased are no longer available! Not so with Audible, you keep everything even after cancelling account. And I find the audio quality of Audible much better.
You should put a scroll bar at the beginning of your vids saying "Best if viewed at 0.75 or 0.50 speed."
Nice, helpful comparison.
this really helped! thank you for this video!
Thank you, Psycho. Trying Scribd with your link now!
I'm late coming to this but a couple of things about audible, firstly the plus catalogue has a decent collection of books that are there to borrow as part of your membership at no additional cost, also, if you can pay annually it reduces the credit cost. A 24 credit annual subscription costs 110£ which works out at 4.58 per book. Much better that the 7.99 monthly subscription price. Scribd throttles usage if you listen to too many titles, too many titles became unavailable to me too often. What did it for me though was that a title I was in the middle of reading suddenly became unavailable, that to me was unacceptable. I understand you can get round this by downloading to read off line but why should you have to. Much as I have an antithesis to all things Amazon I do think their offering is better, especially if you can afford the 24 credit annual package
Audible lies about having a free 365 day return policy. I returned two books and they locked up my entire library preventing me from returning any more books. The books I returned were two of the $2.95 books. I thought I'd take a chance to see how they were since they have free returns. They sucked so I returned and then found out I was blackballed from returning anymore, ever I guess because they locked up all of my books in my library. Well to hell with Audible. I can go elsewhere.
Yeah, worth the price if we use it on a daily basis and especially to generate income. Then, it make sense to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee. Moreover, it is in US dollars. 4 times more when it is converted to Malaysian Ringgit. If we have to pay montly or yearly subscription fee for every software from MS 365, PDF, scrib, pinterest, and so on then we will end up using all our income only to make all these software developers reach. It makes sense if a company subscribes to all these programmes for their staffs' usage at office.
I like owning my audibles because I relisten many times. I'm on 20+ time rereading harry potter. But maybe scribd if I could get it to work would be great for a start on Stephen King. Audible charged me premium price to get The Stand but I often cancel monthly subscription. I loved kindle unlimited before I started going blind. Now it is just not worth the cost for me.
Aly, please do a video on your kindle. I am thinking of getting my first ever kindle and not sure which one to get, the paper white or Oasis? Please do a videoooooo 🙏🏻🙏🏻😩❤️❤️❤️ love youuuuuuuuu loads
By the way, I appreciate the rate of your speech. That's very nice.
Great video. - Audible costs more here in Australia - closer to 10 pounds a month here.
Thankyou very much this video helped me a lot
The great thing about Audible is that even the most expensive audiobooks can be 7.99 if you’re using your credits. Then an extra 3x credits are saving money too. So if you do love Buying And keeping audiobooks, Audible is great. They also have a return option - for you to return within a year on exchange for a credit (at least you always used to haha!). Yes I got 2-1 on Audible the other day too!
So you can only read one book a month
Thanks for the promotion
I’m enjoying your videos!!
made me feel much better when i heard you say that you have them all... i have been feeling guilty about having so many of the same or similar apps hahaha
Hi Aly, thanks for this. One thing I wondered was are the audiobooks read by the same person across the platforms I.e. is it the same reader on Scribd as Audible for example? 📚
It depends on who produced the audiobook. If Audible is the one who paid for the creation of the audiobook (narration, editing, etc.) then often the audiobook will end up being Audible Exclusive and unavailable on other platforms (Scribd or library loan system). However, if it is the publisher who produced the audiobook, then they will sell the audiobook to all the platforms, so that the book will be narrated by the same person. The only exception I see is that the audiobook is super popular or classics so that the demand will be high enough for multiple companies to produce an audiobook which will result in different versions of it (and different narrators). This is kind of where Audible Exclusive fits in - if the book is popular enough, then there will be another version produced and distributed to other platforms, resulting in the new narrator.
Im about to jump from trial to subscription on scribd, really loving to listen 4/5 audiobooks per week and paying just 10 eu for it.
Im just concerned about the cancellation, it says monthly, will see about it i guess
Thank you for the info 🙏
I have run out of audiobooks with Scribd after 5 books every month I have to wait for cause of available soon thing.
Wish there was a scribd compatible e reader
Instead of reading on heavy phones
The idea of only reading 12 books a year is... it doesn't computer. It's like saying you're going to eat 12 times in a year.
Thanks for this video
Thank you for the video. What is the exact difference between kindle unlimited and audible? I am struggling to precisely see the difference because kindle unlimited says it includes audible…?
I just joined Scribd for 30 days trial.
I hope you get your 2 months of free reading I just signed up. Thanks for the clear concise video
Hello Alys, I used your link for Scribd which said 60 days free trial, but they only gave me 30 days. Do you know about that? Is it an error on Scribd’s part?
Um question. Will the scribd app not run when phone screen is off? say I have buds in at work start a book and put phone in pocket. Was just sitting here listening to a sample and screen timed out and reading stopped.
Good Evening, I can download all type documents and books ebooks, unlimited? Thank you.
Thank you..pls try Storytel
Scribd is great
Is your scribd link (2mos free) still working? It doesn't seem like it is from my end.
Audible wins now. You can get books to own and borrow many books too.
How many books have you read ma'@m??
I have all three 🥴
So wait audio is basically only able to read one book a month that stinks
No you can borrow a lot
But you only own one
Hhhhh
Scribd isn't really unlimited. Idk how they decide it, but every time I listen to 3-4 books quickly, I'm blocked for the month. Only thing available are crappy books you never want to listen to.
