For anyone else wanting to know energy usage on this set-up, I worked it out at about 20kWh/month (£7/month at current UK rates). 4x10W lighting running 12hr/day = 15kWh/month. Really important to get a low power fan. 150mm (6in) or less, with a low speed setting. Running 2 fans at 3W 24h/day is 4kWh/month. If you use 100W fans the whole set-up costs 4-5 times as much to run.

I have Barrina lights too in my Millsbo. I reached out to Barrina to ask if the lights are compatible with humidity (waterproof). Their answer is that they are not waterproof and you mustn't have more than 85% humidity in your cabinet. So your thermometer-hygrometer is a great idea to check it. I live in Ontario and I grow orchids in these cabinets, same problem with low humidity, although you win in the Prairies!

Yes definitely try it! :) I could make a video about it in the future. I do like it for the most part- it makes watering so so easy. I have had occasional rootrot with it but overall a positive experience!

The magnets on your grow lights, are they attached to the light with double-side tape? I'd think with how strong the magnets are the tape would easily pop off, no? Or did you maybe super-glue them or something? Beautiful cabinets and space btw :)
Hi Hanie, I am following your instructions on the build for the Ikea Milsbo wide cabinet. One thing I'll note is that the barrina T5 grow lights no longer stick to the magnets, I believe they stopped making the outer material out of metal, luckily it comes with metal clips so I was able to get the magnet to stick to those. One thing you didn't mention is if you're using a humidifier in the milsbo wide. Is the humidity just natural offset from watering the plants? Thank you! I really like the ease of putting this cabinet together, many of the other builds require drilling and a ton of modifications, this build allows the cabinet to be reverted back to normal easily (though I doubt I'd ever do that :) )
Hi Devyn! I stuck the magnets to the Barrina lights with foam tape! There’s no humidifier in the Milsbo- you’re right, the humidity is just from the plants themselves :)

Do you think we can keep glass shelves just put a fan in each section ? I just got a wide one and trying to set up little by little (meaning not investing all out up front.) I already have grow lights but would like to invest in acrylic shelves later.
You could but I don’t think a fan in each section is 100% necessary! I would maybe open the cabinet everyday to make sure there’s some airflow instead. Having one in each section would make the plants dry out faster, and I like things to be low maintenance personally :)

Your set ups are magnificent; so clean and sleek and beautiful. Now you must have extension cords, because I don't see a way to get the plugs through the cracks of the doors, since you didn't drill a hole, and nor did I. So wondering how you managed your cords, if you don't mind sharing, I would surely appreciate!
I panicked for a moment after I got everything and was assembling it. But for anyone else wondering, I managed to feed all the cords required through the top of the space at the top of the door.

Does fan transfer a bit of humming noise or vibration at on of the 3 speeds ? Since its in direct contact with hook which is in direct contact with metal cover i guess there is some buzzing noise if there is total silence in the room.
It's kind of a toss up. I have 2 cats more newish to my home and thankfully none of my animals care about my plants which is super helpful since they are everywhere

Hi! The fans are for ventilation and definitely help with keeping the glass from fogging up! The cabinet doesn’t use up too much electricity because the appliances are so small and the light is LED :)
Same here. I have a cabinet in my garage that I purchased for $10 at a thrift store. I will begin renovating it. Now I am keeping in my plants either outside or in rooms that I keep closed.
The timers are extremely outdated. Instead, I'd suggest you get smart plugs, and then just set your schedule. It's cheaper, has more functionality and much more adaptable. Other than that nice vid.

It's all good. I got 6 lights, my electric blanket, my house fan and aquarium pump all coming from 1 power point. Haven't blown a fuse yet!

The timers are extremely outdated. Instead, I'd suggest you get smart plugs, and then just set your schedule. It's cheaper, has more functionality and much more adaptable. Other than that nice vid.
