I'm actually here because I'm reading the book "Creating Q*Bert" by Warren Davis. He actually programmed this game and I've never heard of it and wanted to see footage. Thank you for this amazing upload!
I’m here for the exact same reason! It’s a great book and the description of the making of this game were so detailed I had to see the results for myself. I was born in 82 so I missed this one.
I played this game in the arcades back in the day. I had forgotten the name. It was quite the coin muncher. I ended up giving up as it would keep you from finishing with a message saying 'you can't buy you're way to the end' when you would get near the end. I'm glad to finally see the end just to satisfy my curiosity.
Yeah, just happened to me on level 11. Pretty rotten as you begin the stage with health remaining from the previous one. Why not just allow infinite continues? Woulda made more money, and those ending scenes were probably seen by only 20 people in history.
It's amazing how some of these oddball games wind up in the strangest places. I found the sega laserdisc 3-D holograph game at a gas station in the middle of nowhere beside the X-Men 6 player cabinet.
I was cleaning my HD looking for more space...and discovered that I had this game when i downloaded a mame CHD pack... This game has an incredible 13 GB size, but unfortunatly i had to delete.
I used to play this back in My native MD, didn't get very far but it was fun to watch. Advanced gaming for it's time, the pre-cursors to CD -Rom home gaming console systems such as Sega CD in the 90's, PlayStation & Xbox.
Yeah, he was sent to sabotage Humanity's defences from within by ordering an attack on the mothership which was likely a trap of some kind that the aliens planned to activate once all the fighters were there.
MAME is an executable file and no need to install it. To play this game in MAME, you need to the usvsthem rom, usvsthem chd file, and the pr8210 zip file (device file) and put them in the ROM folder. You just need to google search them and download them.
This predates Sewer Shark by quite a bit... Which actually makes the 90s FMV game push even more stupid. They saw this fail to catch on in the arcades and tried it again, only with shittier video quality and even less gameplay. It's like, why do we learn history? We're just gonna repeat shit anyway...
@@jesuszamora6949 At least in this case, this has some kind of actual gameplay over the laserdisc footage, and wasn’t merely moving the joystick in the correct direction to advance the storyline, a la Dragon’s Lair. On top of the crappy FMV games like Sewer Shark, they actually rehashed certain laser games on the Sega CD, such as Mad Dog McCree and Cobra Command. And OH MY GOD, they looked like hot garbage. 😖
@@DrLove0378 Hoooo yeah. The resolution on those CD FMV games were HILARIOUS. Pixels visible by the naked eye, numbers of colors you can count on one hand.

I lived in a town of 4K people a random mom and pop gas station had this game. Such a charming funny game for its time. Never saw any other cabinets.

Funny stuff. Looks like the actors had a good time making this.
i remember reading somewhere that some of the actors where employees of the company that made the game.
@ace942 I'm sure they were. It was common practice to do that, and the FMV sequences were obviously done on a budget.
Thanks for posting this. Man I remember that tree stage being HARD
Man those computer graphics really clash with the background imagery in some scenes. Really cool, I've never seen a game this before.
Same here. It gives a feel like you're fighting over and in real life and not a video game with just computer graphics.
Played this game at Wizards in Wellington, NZ, back in 1986. So cool.
17:03 I love how the game glitches out, and now the ships are *inside the cockpit* fighting around the pilot's head. :O)
Big Red still stuck in the forest to this day...
The cheesy over acting is priceless!
Reminds me of Dr. Who production wise.
some of the actors were actually employees of the company that made the game.
@@ace942 Rock on! they deserved Emmys for this. I so do miss playing this game in the old arcades.

That general's teeth are more yellow than Lee's helmet.

So advanced for 1984
I remember this game used to be a expensive game for a kid 1 Player = 2 quarters.
oh lord that shield warning beep is awful
19:33 So... The General was an alien THE WHOLE TIME?? 😳

Us Vs. Them is better than"Star Wars"
That "American Gothic" couple. The guy looked like some bloke I worked with. (A former boss of mine, to be exact).
Old Classic Retro Gaming, how do you install MAME, and then, how do you install a game into MAME to play it?

Did they just say big daddy
Trank you very much is game favorite árcade
I don’t remember this game.
Wait did Starfox totally copy this? lol
😄
Well, rail shooters were a thing for a while, including behind-the-back rail shooters. This was just relying on the novelty of FMV to stand out.
@@jesuszamora6949 this was an amazing game for it's time. I wasted a ton of quarters on it. Never beat it
@@dbrown5784 Never had it in any arcades in my day. Gonna have to fire it up on Daphne.
There never was another time.
But Us vs Them 2 would've been cool as heck.

At least it's not gottlieb stealing a whole movie.

I’m pissed that you had to “use skill” to complete the last levels
Going to take a wild guess and say this turd was the product of the same fmv company that pooped out games like Sewer Shark.
