What a legacy!! These guys have been around practically forever! The USA should be very proud of these fabulously great. Every one of these players that ever played with the HGT should be very proud of their time with this team!🇺🇸🇺🇸
Happily, my father took me to see the Harlem Globetrotters at Madison Square Garden sometime in the 1960s. He said that he didn't know why he did it, as the other team had no chance against them. The Globetrotters literally ran circles around them and they had no chance. I don't remember who the other team was. All of the contestants for that segment were great!
Back then, teachers were allowed to maintain proper discipline in the classroom, which was more conducive to learning. It made a world of difference. Adults also took pride in their appearance, speech and deportment.
I picked number one in the first round because he said he was from Horse Cave, Kentucky, and I worked in the theatre in Horse Cave, Kentucky once. At least that eliminated number two, since I knew there was no Horse Cave in Tennessee.
16 years is a long time to be in jsil for something you didn't do. There was no DNA back then and no fancy machines to dort out fingerprints. Glad he came to a point of forgiveness.
Something I've always wondered about; if someone spent alot of years in prison and was wrongly convicted, I always wondered if the judge or warden ever apologizes to the person and also, that first Ministers: looked exactly like Reverend Snow on Three's Company.
i actually recognized clarence wilson, don't know why he was before my time. i like how clarence correctly said he was from "horse cave" kentucky and the dentist #2 said it was actually tennessee. polly gave her usually look of "you've got to be kidding me", and hilariously said to number 3, "i'm not even going to ask you."
Referring to Harlem Globetrotters manager. The wrongfully accused was #2 for sure. #1 and 3 both answered they don't serve communion in the Presbyterian Church.
Deeply insulted by Hy whats-his-name calling them boys. This episode aired in 1958. Clarence "Cave" Wilson was or would be 32 yrs old that year. Both #2 and #3 were professional men a dentist & a stockbroker. But even if they weren't, this was over 100 yrs after slavery ended and he called "boys"! I saw the comments about people in sports being called boys even on their 30s GMAB. Call it what it is. He was used to using that term and that's why it came out. Then again you'd think we'd be past the humiliations of the norm in times of slavery and L-O-N-G after.Yeah no biggie. It was only some old distant relatives we didn't know. Nope it still hurts & I know it hurt them. Clarence 'Cave' Wilson died in 1996 at 70 yrs old. 😐
You know why it happened. The panelist was so used to interacting with Black people who were in service, maids, janitors, porters, bellboys, waiters, shoe shiners, waitresses, tec. So he used his regular pronoun for the obviously grown men also because in 1956 it was still the norm to call Black men by that disrespectful term no matter how old they were. Taken another way it was rare to see non famous Black people even in the audience of live tv shows much less be a guest on one seen coast to coast. This was a big deal . They men should have been given the respect and I think they were until he said it. The panelist even if it was a sporty term could have chosen another more dignified title in this case.
It's just the best game show ever. Endlessly fascinating.
Oh, Magoo! You've done it again!
Love this! The family I work for owns the Harlem Globe Trotters. I can’t wait to post this on FB and tag them.
Thanks for posting this!! My dad!! :)
Your dad sure played it well, or should I say underplayed - he fooled them all (and I admit I guessed #3!).
You must be proud
He just looks like a ball player. If you play enough ball 🏀 you just know it when you see it!
Are you serious ? How cool is that . Thanks for sharing .

Globetrotter contestant #3 has a beautiful voice !..🤾♀️🤾♂️🤾♀️🤾♂️
So happy the uploads have started again. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME & EFFORT TO MAKE THESE !!!

Being an English teacher, I’m so impressed that people used to care about correct grammar.
lissalives Smoot I agree.
My Dad was a 10th grade dropout in 1946. He wrote and spoke better thsn today's college professors.
Back then, teachers were allowed to maintain proper discipline in the classroom, which was more conducive to learning. It made a world of difference.
Adults also took pride in their appearance, speech and deportment.
Ain’t nuthin better than a guy who can talk good.
Spelling and grammar were pummeled into my brain in grade school back in the early 1970s. Phonics were important, and cursive writing was mandatory.
Holy Cow! This is awesome. Great upload, Mr. TTTT!
I wish everyone was this polite now.

They're all great, but Medow Lark Lemon was mr Basketball and the very best of them all!
This show aired on my third birthday.
The "boys" remark was not racist. It was natural for an older person to call a younger man "boy," if they are involved in sports.
hourlynewscaster I don’t think so.
sure did stick out there like a sore thumb tho didn't it. sometimes racism is very subtle, and not even considered racist at the time.
They were of an age to not be called "boy".....
Plus he used the term "boys" for all 3, not calling any one in particular boy.
At least I like to think so but I'm a whitey, so what do I know.

You WRONG, boy.
Correct name are J. Jerry Cacopardo and Jane Dolinger (1932-1995).
I knew which woman it was as soon as she mentioned "Belém, Brazil". I used to live there and most Americans have never heard of it.
I'm a Cumberland Presbyterian and we have communion.
I am a Presbyterian and we have communion

Meadowlark Lemon alone was worth the price of admission. These guys did a great job fooling the panel. And all the 'trotters were great players.
Bern Bennett is the show's announcer.
Sometimes the imposters are as interesting as the central character.
Awesome upload 💘 it

I wanted to buy Jerry Cacopardo's book "Show Me a Miracle" . Amazon has 2 copies both are $50, Ebay has 1. Also $50 .
Thank you for posting the name of the book . Am keen to get a copy !
@@susanrutherford866 Glad to help! Me too!
Jane Dollinger was gorgeous!!
“Good night, and God bless you.” You won’t hear that today.

I live in Kentucky, not too far from Horse Cave . I knew it wasn't #2 when he said Horse Cave Tennessee.
Celebrity Guests:
1. Polly Bergen
2. Jim Backus
3. Anne Baxter
4. Hy Gardner
Host:
Bud Collyer
Where were they tossing those basketballs as they came down?
jim bacus from the gilligans island we know him in latinamerica in la isla de gilligan . Mr. howell
Played James Dean's dad also
The Globetrotters visited the island too.
I made the right guess about the globetrotter by the way he stood before they sat down.
Three beauties at the end. Jane Drollinger was also a pin-up girl.
As of 1958, the Globetrotters were no pushover for any NBA team.
Bud in ski gives the super man salute !!!! Polly is a super best looking panelist !!!! What's with that ladies hair !!!!????
Man #1 in Game #1
Man #2 in Game #2
Lady #3 in Game #3
What about Meadowlark Lemon ?
What about him. Nobody understands the purpose of your question!
I thought sure it was #2. 🤔
Referring to Harlem Globetrotters manager.
The wrongfully accused was #2 for sure. #1 and 3 both answered they don't serve communion in the Presbyterian Church.
I would've gotten the captain, dentist and stock broker all wrong.
Where is Kitty???
Litter box.
Eve, all about Eve...

I noticed that too. I guess times have changed & it wasn't considered a racial slant back then.
Oh, please! Come down off your high horse. Bud called Whites the same. It had no racial connotation at that time.
Did anyone else notice a panelist called the globetrotters "boys"?
Mary M good Lord it was 1958
At least the host was respectful enough to call them gentlemen.
@David Powell They weren't that young
@David Powell Nice try....men and women over 30 shouldn't be referred to as such
I thought it was quite offensive.
Mmmmm Polly Bergen is so beautiful!
300 women?? 😱
A harem can have as many wives that the shiek or prince can afford.
"When the three boys were standing up there..." ugh, the fifties, calling black stockbrokers and dentists "boys".
