When Bud talked about 'friends of Red Skelton' doing his show, Red's son Richard passed away on May 10, 1958 at the age of 10 from leukemia. A group of Red's friends did his show for two weeks before Red came back to work on May 27
It is a real shame that kids today can no longer see Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey circus. It is a memory that I will never forget when seeing the circus at Madison Square Garden. Joan Fontaine was fine but I hope Kitty and her laugh return soon. Thanks for the video.
They're planning to re-launch the circus next year. Sadly, it won't include any animals; apparently, not even horses or dogs. While I can understand the concern about the mistreatment of animals, Ringling had a great reputation for treating their animals well.
It was stated that the cricket team had come to the US to play some matches on special invitation. To play against whom, I wonder? I imagine there might be a few hobby cricket teams here now, but back in 1958?
thank you, that is what I was looking for... somehow I thought it might be The Hoodlum Saint ... only because that was the first thing that popped in my mind...
+WATCHMAN 117 His son, Kyle Rote Jr., was an internationally known soccer player. The reason I know him, is because he won the "Superstars" competition 3 times in the 1970's.
Always interested to see how those who know nothing about cricket particularly Americans find it hard to understand it and would have been even less known back those days too. Oh an the circus ladies looked fabulous very sexy
I'm an American who lived in the UK for two years and one of my British cousins tried to teach me once but it was truly hopeless. I thought matches went up to 3 days, not 6.
Her sister was Olivia de Haviland, which is the real family name. Their father was an early airplane designer and manufacturer. Both sisters were born in Japan.
Same with me. Football was not that popular until the Colts/Giants championship game a few months after this show aired. Plus. this panel wouldn't know a baseball from a football so no recognition at all by them.
Pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth? I do not see that in those characters. Rather, I see in the castaways’ behavior toward each other: an uncomplicated Gilligan who means well, a responsible and caring Skipper, a Mr. Howell who doesn’t want the others to know of his soft heart, a Mrs. Howell who has her own kind of logic and makes the best out of her current situation, a Ginger who is aware of her beauty but tries to use it to help in her own way, a professor who is always trying to better their situation, and a Mary Ann who works at keeping people fed and clothes washed. They were all giving characters. Love that show!
Larry Teren I'm going to take a wild guess here, and say it's because your opinion of her-- which you're perfectly entitled to-- was not shared by most people.

@@HannibalFan52 Thanks for that information.
I LOVE Polly Bergen! But I missed Kitty Carlisle.......
Joan Fontain Beautiful Personality, Gorgeous Talented Actress
I am so pleasantly surprised that the topic of Cricket and Pakistan was on an American game show back then.
It was stated that the cricket team had come to the US to play some matches on special invitation. To play against whom, I wonder? I imagine there might be a few hobby cricket teams here now, but back in 1958?
The film in question promoted in Game 3 was "High School Confidential!". Mamie Van Doren starred.
Hell yeah it is. Good call!!! And Russ Tamblyn along w/a killer rock n roll sound track!
I can't believe nobody even asked what the name of it was!
thank you, that is what I was looking for... somehow I thought it might be The Hoodlum Saint ... only because that was the first thing that popped in my mind...
I love Hy Gardner. So clever and funny. Glad to know more about him, that he was a talented journalist and radio personality.
Not funny nor is he as clever as he thinks !
@@dfreeman120Right On!
Fertilizer salesman... now there's the perfect occupation for an imposter! :)
Just goes to show how far the NFL has come. Kyle Rote was a star player for the New York Giants in 1958, but nobody recognized him.

What a delightful game show. And so nice to see Pakistan's first cricket captain on the show!!
And kindly correct his name: it's Abdul HAFEEZ Kardar!!
At 2:48, the real Mr. Kardar spelled his name exactly the way the poster did.

Whoa. Perfect playing in game 1.

First group none of the panelists asked about "The Ashes".

Joan Fontaine was 40 years old at this time ,
Her sister was Olivia de Haviland, which is the real family name. Their father was an early airplane designer and manufacturer. Both sisters were born in Japan.
Abdul Hafeez Kardar (1925-1996) was the international cricketer.
I knew it was # 2. He knew Oxford’s color. (Dark blue)😀
What's the name of that movie? I can't believe nobody wanted to know!
The name probably hadn't been decided when he appeared on the show, but it was released as "High School Confidential!"
Brill cream , a little dab will do ya !!!!
i recognized Kyle Rote at once. Any NY Giants fan of a certain age would have.
Same with me. Football was not that popular until the Colts/Giants championship game a few months after this show aired. Plus. this panel wouldn't know a baseball from a football so no recognition at all by them.
Ticket plug left alone. The GSN producers must have been napping.
***** I think you mean GSN *staff*; but, yeah, it would seem that way. Lucky us! :-)
How many are we?...
who else had a Dumont with doors
This show aired before zip codes were being used by the post office !!!!
So??????
Why are you telling us this?
To be divided between you !!!!
Bud in ski !!!!
Joan Fontiane...boingggg...
Speaking of Jim Backus, it broke my heart whenever I found out the the 7 characters on Gillian’s Island represented the 7 deadly sins. 🤔🙄

@@WhatsMyLine - what a marvelous and appropriate response. Agree totally.
I disagree. She made me smile, which counts for a lot.
She was a cutie pie! a silly one.
