I still have my 1st car, 1981 Triumph TR7 drop head, bought in 1989 when I was 16. Currently in my garage completed stripped as I do a nut and bolt rebuild. I know people dont like the TR7 but it was my dream car as a 70's kid, and I still love it 🙂👍
Drove a TR8 dhc it was absolutely wicked owned a TR6 with O/D sadly never ran then had a 944 and a 964 project cars are OK but you need a car you can drive it keeps you motivated
I still have my first car, had it at least 35+ years, a Renault 5 Gordini Turbo in Silver, it doesn't run currently although i did manage to start last year, just no spark currently, it's in fairly good condition Cheers
Especially now with the new release of the electric 5, that would be a great trip down memory lane! Maybe Jonny can rent the new 5 just to celebrate that lovely car!
Oh my God. I had a 5 Gordini too, non turbo in silver. Amazing bright orange interior. Jaeger orange dials. A whole 98hp wheels like sci-fi reel to reel tapes. So cool. Wish I still had it 😪
My wife still has her first car; an N-Reg Peugeot 306 XN that she bought when she was 18.... in 2006. She still dailies it and it's now just about to hit 200k miles. It's utterly joyous to drive.
I had one of these in the mid 90s. Same year, same engine, same colour! When I sold it, it was just a second hand car. This was the first car I bought with my heart and not my head. I loved it.
Hi Jonny, I mentioned this to you a while back. Still got my first car, a 1983 Mini in black. Started out as a 998cc City, bought for my 18th in 1995 and restored in 1997 so 30 years of ownership. It’s currently away following a 10 year layup. It was repainted in December (no rust to deal with as it was dry stored 😁) but the engine/gearbox build is the bit that’s taking a while. It’ll be on its 6th engine, but this one will probably outlive me (not cheap, but will be worth it!). Had my photo taken with you at the London Concourse after the live show - I was the guy that told you about the Tom ‘Wookie’ Ford stag do incident 😉
Still have my 1972 Toyota Celica. My Grandmother bought it brand new in Adelaide, Australia. It hasn’t been on the road for 25yrs but I’m slowly restoring it.
I still have my MG B GT a 1972 blaze orange car had the it when I was 18. Owned it for 22 years. Fully restored in 2006 and still looks clean. Met the original owner and traced a lot of its past and has the original service book wall the way back to its PDI inspection. Sadly only covered around 10 miles last year seeing this makes me want to use it more. Memories come back so strongly when I see it.
Well this has taken me back to my 1.6 gti , wow amazing both . Also clearly I ventured to the 1.9 gti Peugeot also . .. glad I still have something tucked away in lockup Ford 🏁😉thanks for this filming taken me back and made me smile😊😊 get this back on the road , spend the money even if takes a while 👍
205 GTI = One of my dream cars when I was very young driver. I ended up buying a green 3-door Simca 1100 TI , dont ask why. I do hope that this 205 GTI will relive and get on the road again
I still have my first car, it's a Mk 3 😋 MG Midget. I bought it when I was 18 in 1998. Most of my mates had Nova's or Astra's at the time, but I always liked the older classic cars. I took it off the road around 2002 to start a restoration....23 years later, it's nearly finished 😂
Still got my first car, 1993 lada samara 'flyte' limited edition. My father bought it brand new and I drove it as first car until he bought me a ford fiesta. Just got the lada back on the road the last couple years, Welcome to come and look, rare car now
Still got my first bought car, mr2 turbo, had it 21 years, will never ever sell it, but I haven't used it in a few years. I go and see it EVERY day without fail, just to make sure it's OK.
Cracking car. 2 of my best mates had 205 GTi pugs. They both drove them like they stole them. Irresistible things. Damn they had the looks to match too. So balanced and well proportioned that car. Nice one TLBS
I still have my first car! A 1993 BMW E36 318i. I got it on my 18th birthday and daily drove it for 1 and a half years. Then I got a Toyota Avensis T22 as a new daily driver and the E36 became the summer classic car. I'm 21 now so not a long term ownership yet. Greetings from Germany
Morris Minor Traveller owned 45 years, bought it off my aunt at 11 years old, she had it from new. Learnt to drive in it and took my test in it. Never been off the road long term, stored over winter months
Not my first car but 2nd car from when I was 18. A little Mini with a 1275 MG Metro engine. Sold it when I was 19 and bought it back 13 years later. Currently in the garage having a full restoration. It has featured on your segment you did during lockdown of what people have in their garages. Love the 205, rallied one for years so have a real soft spot for them. Bloody rats and mice.
I had one of these fantastic cars in the late eighties,I hammered it and hammered it it never gave up.Once went past the boys in blue at 100 plus ,they just put the blues on to slow me down.
We all get disappointed when you don't get them started but for some reason that was less so for me this week. It was a great video and a great barn find. Thank you Jonny!
Never thought or could imagine you could still get the 1.6 in 1990 😳 My first car was an black 309Gti -8v -1990 in mind condition and i almost everyday drove it like i had stole it and it never broke down on me. But i hope this get back to it's glory soon with an detail and an BIG service done before it get it's MoT done and then it's ready to tear away the roads again! Great video
I still have my first car . Bought it new from Renault in 2004 Nautical blue Clio Dynamique 1.2 16v . Stoped using it 6 years ago for a family car . Hoping to get it going again soon . 91k of happy miles in that Bad Boy !
My first car (Escort 1.3) I rolled through a hedge after 7 days! My second car (Alfa Sud Ti) I smashed into a wall and wrote it off after 3 months! Touch wood have been OK since. I had a 1.6 GTi and a 1.9 GTi 205 and have very fond memories of them and the fun I had in them. No speed cameras back then of course! Cheers
Cracking Pug! Get it stripped… everything off and engine out… it wont be a quick fix… and build it up as you get the time and money. Its value nowadays makes it totally worth it! Great episode. Hope it sees the sun and roads soon!
My first car I bought in 2001 (I was 18 and it was my brothers car which he was getting rid of, was gonna scrap it as he thought it was worthless - regretted selling it to me years later) was a sweet sweet 1992 205 Rallye (uk spec sadly), problem was I didn’t drive so it stayed in my mums garden until 2019, 5 years after I did my car test (I’m a keen motorcyclist and had 7 at one point) finally got it on the road 2020, loved it and sadly sold it the end of 2023 as I hardly used it and felt it needed some love but 4 motorcycles and a van was being used more. I miss it but always wanted a GTI. Considering it was left outside it wasn’t too bad, seats and faded black trims but solid car. If I had the money I’d buy another 205 without any hesitation. CMTMB
Hi Johnny I have a Works pressure washer for about ten years now. Although I also now have a mains unit as well. If you want "supercharge " the cordless washer, simply plug it direct to the tap. I bought mine when I didn't have access to a tap close to my garage, but now I do. And its a lot less of a faff than constantly filling a bucket. Better still if the tap has a strong flow.
I have owned my 1.2 '98 Fiesta now for over 21 years (March 2003). It's my first car, I passed my test in it. There were no advisories on the this years MOT. I'm not going to part with it. It has no electric windows, power steering, ABS, or central locking. Just the way I like it. Oh, and it has a tape player, its all the car I need. I feel like I'm in a minority, this era Fiesta are so unloved and so many have just vanished from the roads. Shout out to all here who still have their first car!
Fond fond memories of Pug 205’s. Timeless design still continue to look amazing on the road today, not that I see many at all about these days. One of the main reasons that I enjoy trips to France is seeing more 80’s and 90’s cars being driven around. 🎶 I’m gonna fix that pug that’s what I’m gonna do, I’m gonna fix that pug that’s what I’m gonna do..
The fact you went car over content and didn't risk any more damage says it all, Great find Jonny still believe the 206 was the best handling hot hatch of it's time.
Such a great find this one! I own a 205 myself that I’ve restomodded and use as a car for summer trips. My dad still owns his first car to this day. It’s a white 2cv from 83 that he bought from new and has done over 330k km in. Been everywhere in Europe and still is used for summer trips as well. Great video Jonny, now I want to fiddle with the 205 again 😬
I’ve had my 205gti since 2001…. Does about 500miles a year now! 😊 this one looks good, not much rust, original air box, i spotted the magnex back box too period mod! Lots of the specialist parts for these are being remade again by Peugeot. Should be a straight forward recommissioning. Gear knobs are available. That cassette deck is gold dust. Give it the love, two companies spring to mind.
Whoa! I've got '94 Cinder Cone too. I also had the use of a white 205 GTI for a few months when my best mate was working abroad in about '96. Anyway, back to the barn find...
I don't have my first car sadly, which was a Renault Twingo ii as I didn't start driving until my 20s, but I do still have my first motorcycle. I had a 50cc scooter at 16 which is long since gone, but my first geared motorcycle was a Honda CG125 at 17. I rode it around for a couple of years until I got the next tier of bike license, after which the CG went into storage and stayed there for almost a decade until I revived it at the start of last year. It's a fun second bike now for back lanes, and will be with me forever whether it's on or off the road. It features on my own channel too, for anyone wanting to see a rather under-powered POV.
Drove a white 1986 1.6 205gti around Europe many many years ago.. If my memory serves me correctly, I paid around £150 for a full front to back Ansa exhaust system with twin tail pipes.. Why did I ever sell it.... Wonderful car..wonderful memories... Thank you...
We don’t realise at the time that we’re living the good old days… there’s something intoxicating about nostalgia and a time when we were young and invincible.
Still have my first car, a 1979 Clubman Saloon. It has been in my parents garage for 30 years. I've decided that 30 years is too long and have committed to get the old girl back on the road. I'm going to treat it to a K1200LT head and a nice swanky 1275 bottom end.
I’ve still got my first car a 2002 ep3 civic Type R purchased in 2002 brand new.Currently has 61k miles on the clock and tucked away in a heated garage since 2017
That is a part exactly for me. I've still got my first car and he is also sitting in a wooden garage for now. I've got him sience 2002 so it's almost 23 years now and is still working. Every time I've been in a family house I drive it. It's a Golf MK2, 1988, 1,3KAT, 3-doors Tornado Rot arrow hehe. A nice pice of history and memories!
I miss all my early car 90s peugeots. So much so i went down the rabbit hole of buying the cars i had/wanted back in the day again. I now have a french car problem according to the mrs. Nostalgia is dangerous. Love the vid
1998 Specialized Rockhopper. Zero suspension. No rust, rides perfectly. I wish I still had my 89' Mitsubishi Colt Gti 1.6 16V, but rust killed it in 08'
Love the car and love the video. Also shocked to see that the car spent time at Elite for tyres! We used to spend what felt like most of our lives waiting there for my Dad's car to have all sorts of bits done to it 😂
I had one back in the day, my second car, graphite grey with factory slide sunroof on an F reg. Loved it & put 130k on it in 12yrs…….wish I still had it. Great work 👍
Great video, Johnny! I do still have my first car, an Alfa Romeo 155 1.8ts. Bought it in 2003, used it as my daily for 4 years and ever since as my hobby/2nd car. It's currently undergoing a minor restoration to make it bright and shiny again.
It shined up well! Hope it can get back on the road and be enjoyed for many more years. I watched this and am now going to watch an episode of Miami Vice. CMTMB
Still have my first car - bought in 1999 - a much modified 1989 Mini Mayfair with 110bhp 1380cc engine. Currently in pieces but shell fully restored to be put back together … one day 😊
I still have my first car aye. 1984 Mazda RX-7. Owned it for 12 years now. Had a big turbo 13b in it, but broke a rear plate as it was making a bit too much power for that year motor haha. It's been getting filthy sat in a barn for few years now. Done a subframe and brake swap whilst it has had no motor. But not touched it for a bout 2 years now😳
I still have my first car, my MG Midget bought in 1997. It had a full resto/mod in 2003 and has been off the road for many years now. I emailed you about it before, Jonny, but think I sent the email to an old Car Perv email... I'll re-send the email to your current email address in case you want to do a wee barn find on my wee pride & joy! Loving the 205 GTI. Insurance must've been pricey for David!
What a fantastic car! A 16 year old me did work experience at the Slough Observer newspaper, circa 1987, and one of the (rather attractive!) female journalists had a red 1.6 205 GTi and she took me out in it to visit the local courts! One of the wing mirrors was hanging on for dear life following a slight mishap! I can remember that day like it was yesterday! Great episode.....I'd love to see a revisit if/when he gets it recommissioned 🙂
Romford of all places! Not being born and bred there, He didn't total it at Oldchurch roundabout on lose it on the brewery straight. :) I managed to escape Romford in 1992, just after peak hot-hatch 80's race track time.
I have great memories of driving around Romford with the roof down in my mates Triumph Stag, with a gentle burble from his engine swapped rover V8 when the Brewery was still a Brewery! Nice vid Johnny perhaps this one will be worth re-visiting next year. Let’s hope it’s only wiring and a bit of TLC in the engine bay that’s required, to bring this Essex boy gem back to life!
Great video. I don't have my first car (a 1989 Fiesta 1.1 LX), but I still have my third car, a 1990 Volvo 740 SE estate which I've owned since 2003 and has become a cla$$ic car by accident. I love how effective the portable power washer is. I bought a similar set-up a few months ago, but haven't used it yet as I hitherto wasn't convinced of its efficacy.
I recognised the Yokohama A539's from the tread pattern as you inflated the tyres.... had those on my XR3i in 1998; they were EPIC - so much grip compared to the Avon's I had on it previously.
I wish I did still have my first car. Mk3 Cortina LOV 696P... Sadly it wouldn't start one day and near Stranraer and I had to be in Cumbria that day, so I left a note saying it's yours, the documents and the keys in it and had to get a taxi all the way to Carlisle.
Ive still got my 1st car! 1996 Ford Fiesta Classic Cabaret, think i done about 250 miles in it before i parked it up due to needing some welding. One of 6 classic cabaret's left. Ill get round to it one day 😊
I've still got my first car. 1989 Mini Mayfair. I got given it from my gran in 2004ish, but it's not worked since 2007 due to a suspected gearbox fault. I've moved house 3 times and brought it with me each time. One day I'll get it working I hope 🤞
Still have my MG Montego turbo which I bought for £195 in 1996,it’s parked in my garage.
Email us!
I still have it! My 1983 Autobianchi A112 LX. Was from my dad, was my first car, and now 20 years later, she is 42, and is better than ever❤
In the UK? That's not a car you see very often
I still have my 1st car, 1981 Triumph TR7 drop head, bought in 1989 when I was 16. Currently in my garage completed stripped as I do a nut and bolt rebuild. I know people dont like the TR7 but it was my dream car as a 70's kid, and I still love it 🙂👍
What will you put under the bonnet? The original motor?
@@herbertwilliams1608 I have a 3.5litre Rover V8 engine to go in it to liven things up a little 😂

Funny how he says MK rather than mark 😅
😂I've honestly never heard anyone else ever say that
That was annoying me! 😂
Yep, so annoying 😆
That's how you know when someone's bluffing about their knowledge of cars.
Said the same before reading the comments. It's a pet peeve.
I had one of these in the mid 90s. Same year, same engine, same colour! When I sold it, it was just a second hand car. This was the first car I bought with my heart and not my head. I loved it.

Still got my first car!!!

31 years and still running, still on the road in my garage, ready to go!
That is one disgusting but solid car from the looks of it.... Really hope this gets the love it deserves!
I had an E reg 309 GTi in the mid-late 90’s…loved it..

A 205 GTI,Prodigy cassetes AND a early 90s Kona?
My teenage self from back in the day salutes you!
I still have mine a mini 25 1984 I bought it from family nun friend it was only few yrs old at the time and still love all these yrs on
I don't have my first car sadly, which was a Renault Twingo ii as I didn't start driving until my 20s, but I do still have my first motorcycle.
What a cool car and story, really hope Dave gets it fully restored and gets back to enjoying it.
Yoko A539's the perfect combo for any Pug GTi !!!!
Fantastic episode, never owned a 205 gti as was a ford man back in the day , so cool still having your first dream car 🏴🇦🇺
Please do an episode after he fixes her up. Also we need a pic of Dave and the car back in the day.
Funny he mentioned Homebase as I went there today to buy some sanding belts for sorting out thr bodywork on my 205 GTi.
So much 90s stuff, that garage is basically in Bristol.
I had this same car on a H plate , glorious lil thing and the handling was awesome 👌
I miss all my early car 90s peugeots. So much so i went down the rabbit hole of buying the cars i had/wanted back in the day again.
I now have a french car problem according to the mrs. Nostalgia is dangerous. Love the vid
#Frenchcarproblem
@@TheLateBrakeShow its so bad its probably medical lol
Had one exactly the same colour in 1989 ... unbelievable
My last what youd call classic was a 309 gti goodwood. Wish i garaged that!
1998 Specialized Rockhopper. Zero suspension. No rust, rides perfectly. I wish I still had my 89' Mitsubishi Colt Gti 1.6 16V, but rust killed it in 08'
I had 2 205 GTI 1.6 ….one White, one Red … Fabulous cars
I had a 1.9. loved it. Handled great with Yokohamas on it, then I tried some cheaper tyres and I wrote it off. Oops.
Love to see a revisit Jonny when the PUG is sorted ❤
I've still got my first car. 1965 VW Beetle that my Grandad bought new. It's in the middle of a nut and bolt restoration.
Wow!
It shined up well! Hope it can get back on the road and be enjoyed for many more years.
I watched this and am now going to watch an episode of Miami Vice. CMTMB
Council Garages.. Asbestos Roof’s.. Proper Barn Finds.. Really “Real people” we relate to ❤️❤️🔥🔥💥💥
Still have my first car - bought in 1999 - a much modified 1989 Mini Mayfair with 110bhp 1380cc engine. Currently in pieces but shell fully restored to be put back together … one day 😊
Another great car uncovered ❤
Johnny. Another great video for us. Thanks.
Loving the music too. Getting better and better 🙂🙂👍👍
I remember them, lovely little cars, I never drove the 1.6 but I did drive the 1.9 GT rallye and it was mental, lots and lots of fun
First car was a 205 1.0L which was replaced by a Xsara VTS, which is stored back home ready for my lad when he is of a suitable age
Loved the video Johnny Keep up the sweet work you lovely flute !!
Still got my first car, classic Mini! Had it 27 years now. Still on the road
I managed to escape Romford in 1992, just after peak hot-hatch 80's race track time.
@@runningon-dinosaurs1569 I can remember the smell of that brewery when driving past.
1988 Volkswagen Jetta GX (MK2) coupé… had it since new to this day!
Great video Jonny and a cracking car. The best bit for me though is the Scania overalls, quality...
One of these would be in my dream garage. When Peugeot made awesome cars
AS soon as I saw the bonnet, knew it'd be a 205 GTI. A friend of mine from the 00's had one in Miami blue with a bike carburettor. Rapid lil thing.
Ive still got my 1st car! 1996 Ford Fiesta Classic Cabaret, think i done about 250 miles in it before i parked it up due to needing some welding. One of 6 classic cabaret's left. Ill get round to it one day 😊
This brings so many memories, I had a graphite grey 1.6 GTI on a G plate, good times 👏👍
I've still got my first car. 1989 Mini Mayfair. I got given it from my gran in 2004ish, but it's not worked since 2007 due to a suspected gearbox fault.
I've moved house 3 times and brought it with me each time. One day I'll get it working I hope 🤞
